When I renewed it was listed as fixed price. The other option was listed as variable.

i reckon flogas are willing to let the BWG offer expire to rid themselves of the non-BWG employees who signed up last year.

for those of you with activated smart meters it might be a good idea to download your data from the esb portal before switching as it'll get wiped when you switch.

I thought I saw on the esbn site that changing providers doesn't wipe your meter data anymore, they did a bit of a revamp to prevent this.

I emailed them a few weeks ago and they confirmed in their reply that my rates will remain fixed for 12 months from the start of my contract last August

If ESB Networks were truly serious I think they would incentivise/force network operators to give Day/Night/Peak plans where the day and night rates are slightly cheaper than the current Day/Night rates… Most consumers don't want to micro-manage every daily minute of their electricity supply but incentivise them with a very small change like this and you might get traction

For what it's worth I cook the dinner between 5 and 7 in the evenings so a smart plan doesn't suit me but I could change the habbit a few days a week if I was being charged 1-2c less for my usage outside peak times

How long it takes to new plan to kick in after change? Requested move to energia ev plan on Monday from electric ireland. Electric ireland account was closed on Wednesday so am I right to assume I am on ev night rate with energia? Got only initial email from energia on Monday after request was submitted confirming my request.

The move happens almost as quickly as your new supplier initiates the switch.

There will be an agreed cut-off, a line in the sand for billing based either on a final meter reading you give when moving, or smart meter reading at a particular time. Its automated and I've found it often happens same day or next day to you contracting with a new supplier.

If EI closed your account / sent you a final bill, you are definitely moved already, I would say.

Its ok you dont have to do that, your data stays on your ESBN account. I moved from EI to BG last October but I am able to download my 18 month HDF file from ESBN from when I actually got my smart meter 18 months ago.

Very handy especially if you need it to upload to energpal.ie to compare plans.

Depends on whether you're on a smart plan or not

Smart plans follow the hour change, the older D/N plans do not

It also doesn't matter if you have a smart meter but are on the older D/N plan, it still doesn't follow the hour change

You can figure out which one you're on by checking the meter code on your bill

MCC02 is the non-smart D/N meter code (even if you have a smart meter)

MCC12 or MCC16 are smart meter codes and mean you're on a smart plan

Sorry but you're wrong there D/N times are 11-8 winter and 12-9 summer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 13,534 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

Isn't that what I said? D/N meters don't follow the hour change, smart meters do

So the times for the night rate change on a D/N plan and don't on a smart plan

EDIT: Okay I went and re-read my other post and it probably wasn't the clearest explanation, mea culpa

Dual Fuel Discount 32% Electricity & 29% Gas as an alternative too Flogas Offer

Wait, now that I got conned into a smart plan, what are my night hours? Please tell me it's 11pm-8am all year round...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,455 ✭✭✭obi604

The above BWG offer expires for me today. I have an urban night saver meter. (not smart)
I don't have a battery or solar or heat pump. I do have 2 x electric cars.
I have not get a better offer from Flogas, other than I will be put on 'standard rates'
Checked on bonkers and not much there either.

When all is said and done, is the best option equal to the energia one below:

Same situation as you. Think i'll be going with Energia. Don't see anything better bar a smart plan but I'm happy with the full 9 hrs cheap rate. The limit on night time usage the only issues really. Prices seem similar to BWG bar it's not a fixed rate.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 132 ✭✭Josieg

I just called Flogas as, like everyone else in the BWG plan, mine expires today. When I was asked if I still worked for BWG I stupidly said no so I wasn't offered the new BWG deal. Does anyone know what the new deal looks like for D/N? Is it fixed and what at the kwh charges?

The CS agent did say that the BWG contracts have all been extended to the 15th of April due to the delay in getting the new offers out so she said to be careful about switching before that date in case I'd be exposed to the €50 contract break charge. On the plus side we have another 2 weeks of the old BWG pricing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27 Dand88

Just off the phone with Flogas, BWG deal updated today .243 cent 24hr and price fixed (not discount fixed :)) for 18 months. I could renew on the phone before email and link coming tommorow and have already got my renewal email.

Can they just arbitrarily extend the contract like that and penalise people for switching (who likely got a letter stating their contracts expire today)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 132 ✭✭Josieg

Very good point and I said as much on the call but she wasn't committing either way and said to speak with a manager before I switched in case the €50 would be applied. I have the letter saying March 31st as well but no subsequent letter stating that it had been extended. She did say that the contract was BWG wide and not person specific but I cant see that being an excuse as we must surely have to be told individually.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,455 ✭✭✭obi604

hmmmm, 2 letters I got state the Flogas contract ends 31st march, so the above is a bit confusing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,140 ✭✭✭Exiled Rebel

I've heard nada. Unless their smart bwg offer matches the energia 33% Smart Data offer then I'll be switching.

OK I'll answer my own question! Just off the phone.

    Day: 26.49c.

    Night: 13.35.

I stupidly didn't ask if that was VAT inclusive but I presume it is as the standing charge was quoted as unchanged at €331.33, which includes VAT.

Rates are FIXED for 18 months.

Current rates are being extended until 15th April so you have two more weeks at the 'cheap' rate, no need to rush your renewal or switch.

It's a bit higher than Energia (and standing charge too) but I suspect it will look attractive vs the Energia variable rate in the not too distant future.

Are you able to sign up or did they send you a link? Just asking for all the BWG employees…..
