Played Cyberpunk at the start of this year and absolutely loved it. Along with the DLC, one of the best games I've played in years. It's in a much better place that it was at launch, and while not perfect or without some bugs here and there, overall it's fantastic. Well worth giving it a spin.

If you don't get a sudden burst of familiarity from this then you aren't a real gamer:

Hmm, this preview leaves me very skeptical about Doom: The Dark Ages. Sounds very, very modern AAA video games with all the tropes that come with. Hopefully just an outlier opinion and the full game will deliver, but certainly sounds a lot more generic than its predecessors despite the cool shield.

More story?! Lads, it’s **** Doom, what are we doing here?

Please please please don't F this up. Doom since it's return has been utterly flawless.

The story heavy stuff worries me. 2016 was so good because it pretty much took the piss out of game with stories and lore dumps while Eternal had a story but I was roleplaying the doom slayer and just ignoring it all and getting frustrated when a lore dump got in the way of the action.

I honestly think the worst thing you can do is let more and story get in the way when you are making an action game. It can be used to create troughs between the action peaks but nothing can kill an action game worse than slowing things down for a lore dump.

Have to give a shout out to Two Point Museum. Bought it at the weekend and have been having great fun with it. A nice spin on the genre.

Just catching up with those Doom previews, and yeah, more story to be uncovered just sounds like a terrible idea. Bah.

Finally gave Ace Combat 7 a proper go after previously quitting after the first level. Damn...... It's kinda pretty brilliant.

Tekken 8 Season 2 patch was released last night, and they appear to have royally f*cked it.

The biggest complaints about the game were about how aggressively it needed to be played with so many 50/50s, mixups and safe moves. Defence really took a backseat from T7. So the devs promised new adjustments to defence to make sidestepping better, remove a lot of the weird tracking issues, and nerf some of the more egregious moves from some of the top characters.

Patch notes released. Everybody got buffed! Buffs for everyone! New moves for everyone! More 50/50s! More mixups! The top 5 characters, more buffs than nerfs. Characters can transition into stances easier. More installs for characters. More ways for some characters to keep and even gain some more Heat meter to do more powered moves. Whatever your characters weakness was, here's a new move to fill that gap.

It's genuinely wilder than I thought it would be. I was trepidatious leading up to it, particularly after their last Tekken Talk, but this is insanity.

Saw a clip of someone online describing Tekken 8 from a few months ago, where he's sadly just been proven even more correct; Tekken 8 is designed for the spectator, not the player.

Sure you did. And I started playing Legend of Dragoon.

Well Tekken always had a spectator problem, it was really boring to watch until Tekken 8 came about. It's a pity they are ruining the base game like this as it really sounded like they found the special sauce with 7 and 8 and managed to get a lot of popularity after SFV was a disaster.

I think one of the worries for them that came out of T7 was that at higher competition levels, the game was maybe too defensive. A lot of dancing around each other, small pokes, knowledge checks. They went a bit too far the other direction with T8 Season 1, and now gone even beyond that for Season 2. Now it's all about getting in and making it a guessing game rather than skill/knowledge.

I'll still keep playing for another while, but this is not going to go well for the devs. Really fail to see how they can justify some of the changes and decisions they've made.

I did it 😀. Your advice paid off. I Finally beat a full run. It still took a few goes to get the right mix of jokers. But I got lucky with a 100 chip, a 50 chip. A X2 multi on face cards, a retrigger face cards twice and one that added bonus 5 chips to each card when it scored and they where all shiny so had extra bonuses .

But second last run I got over 100k on one hand. So was confident going into the last one. His power was to debuff a random joker each hand. Blind was 100k blind, I'd 80k with one last hand and hit a 50k+ last hand to steam to 127k.

Such a torture but such a buzz to beat it.

Nice! It can take a while but pulling the right combination of jokers or just taking the right chances in terms of which packs to open or where to spend your money makes all the difference. But definitely trying to balance out jokers/tarots which give more chips as well as multipliers is key. That was my issue at the start too; I was trying to boost the multiplier so much that I was multiplying f*ck all.

Now comes the fun part; new decks, new stakes, new Jokers… you may not have even gotten any Spectral cards/packs yet either, they're a lot of fun!

Few sites reporting that a PS5 special edition The Last Of Us game will be announced/released in next 2 months. The price seems to be 120 euro with most assuming it's TLOU part 1 and 2 bundled but that seems a bit expensive as you can get both for a lot cheaper than that. Saying that, the rrp for both is 130 euro but not many people would spend that, even if they were the deluxe versions.

Wonder if it comes with the first (and maybe second depending on release date) series of the TV show.

I know it's been a thing for ages, but christ, I'm allergic to the forced friends chat during multiplayer game trailers. This Nintendo thing started well with Mario Kart, but this C button thing is just horrible with these actors.

I've lost all interest in FPS shooters, to the point where I'd question if I'd even like a half life é, but gotta say, Robocop is a lot of fun!

I was very late boarding the Hollow Knight train but it feels like I've been waiting forever to play Silksong.

Psycho Patrol R is pretty cool. It's basically Deus Ex 1 meets Dark Souls meets classic Armored Core.

Its writing is very, I dunno, postmodern I guess. Very ironic type of thing. Definitely the most interesting game I've played in the past few years

Booted up Stranglehold on GOG the other night. Obviously the game is far from a masterpiece, but have to say I find its Xbox360-ness endearing after playing a few 'epic' length games. Just no-nonsense shooting with extremely limited side content or collectibles - you're here for the action, and just as well, as that's pretty much all there is. Absolutely preposterous tone - the cutscenes are very funny as Tequila keeps hanging up on his boss before casually blowing up entire districts of Hong Kong (amusingly there's a count of how much damage you caused in the post-level ranking screen). It's repetitive and basic, but between the janky but endearing bullet time, destruction & anti-gravity movement, it's still good fun.

Currently having an absolutely insanely great Balatro run. Got Blueprint (copies the card to the right) and Brainstorm (copies the leftmost card) at the same time, playing with a deck that gives you a double tag (doubles the reward if you skip a level) every time you beat a boss, which I used on a Negative Joker reward, so I now have 14 jokers.

With the cards I have, moving the jokers around means I get three tarot cards at the start of each level, along with three hand upgrades. My High Card hand is now level 65 😂. Just got 84 million from a single card 😂😂😂

For all that don't play, I apologise for something that must seem like it's in a different language.
