What are you favourite "side dishes", and can you combine them together to make a full meal?

I was watching this video where the dude is using humus as the focal point.

Humus being a side dish, but tastes great.

    I was thinking, between

    1. salsa
    2. humus
    3. salad like mixed leaves
    4. roasted veg
    5. coleslaw
    6. avocado
    7. maybe eggs or a meat portion of some kind
    8. roasted potatoes or spinach-rice or vegetable-rice
    9. pickles (apparently fermented food is healthy)

There's all these components that can be combined to make a multi-faceted dish.

I've never cooked like that, it was always

    1. main meat portion
    2. main carb portion with a little veg thrown in

But I really dig that video and as my diet is centred around fresh fruits and veg now, I'm trying to figure out what works.

The way this type of dish is put together, it's almost like burrito style?

Yeah, I tend to eat "modular" style or picnic style. Mix and match whatever you have.

It suits me as I cook just for myself, so I can reuse the components over a few different meals.

Oh, pickles aren't usually fermented, just vinegared. Read the label. 👍

Roasted Mediterranean vegetables are great, very easy to adapt to many meals or blend to make a pasta sauce.

You can buy frozen bags of vegetables and air fry them with a little olive oil.

Pulses are great for this type of meal planning too.

Tuna and cannelini beans are my go to. Goes with pita breads and salads.

Congratulations, GR, you've discovered the concept of tapas/mezze/bocas 🤣

All joking aside, grazing & sharing meals like that are great because you can have a little bit of loads of things rather than one big portion of a few things.

The possibilities are endless, but for a beginner (for want of a better word) I'd keep it simple and maybe limit your items to one type of cuisine. So mezze: pita, hummus, labneh/tsatziki, olives, a nice green salad, maybe some grilled meat skewers.

Tapas: crusty bread, aioli, olives, padron peppers, sardines, salad, chorizo, etc.

(What's with the coleslaw obsession, btw? 🤣)

    What's with the coleslaw obsession

Good question, I tried making more earlier using Tesco Mayo…… average taste.

Need to improve on the mixing sauce for the slaw, I read sour cream may be a good addition.

I normally LOVE slaw, it goes with almost everything and real healthy with fresh carrot and cabbage.

I feel like the "multiple dishes" option makes me feel like I'm at a burrito bar.

Plus I'm trying to rely a little more on plant sourced proteins like beans, peas, lentils etc.
