I assume O'Brien, the kicker for the ladies team today, will get the same character assassination and condemnation for her horror show as Prendergast and the likes do for the mens?

Not a hope. Try as they might to shove it down our throats, women's sport is a non-event.

No need for belittling the thousands of volunteers in a great organisation which helped restore pride in the Irish population when they were on their knees in the late 19th century. I suppose it's alright to belittle certain groups of people..

If cyclists wont use the cycle lanes we pay for we should just stop building them.

See it every other day. Cyclist in the road, empty cycle lane to their side. Why bother building them.

Parent and child parking spaces are nonsense and i use them all the time as a non parent.

Theyre hypocritical too, in an age of hypersensitivity for equality.

Are you that lazy that you can't walk an extra 15m to the entrance of the shop?

They help parents with young children, they can put their child in the car quickly and then put their shopping away without the need to walk their young children through a car park.

They're wider too which means they can easily get a child out of the car seat without scratching the car next to them.

Could you use these spaces if your child was 17 and driving the car?

We have older person spaces in our town - how old do I have to be to use such a space?

Do you like getting your car scratched because a 5 year old flung open their car door in a space that's too small?

Thats the main reason why these spaces exist, to protect every one else from getting their cars ruined by other people's children

(also, the fact that you can't reach in to strap a kid into a car seat if you parked a car in a normal space and while you're gone, another car parks beside you and now you can't actually open the door)

Parent and child spaces are for parents with kids who are very young, in car seats or boosters.

If I was designing the supermarkets, I'd have these spaces in the corner of the car park away from the doors to stop the lazy feckers taking the spots because they're close to the door.

    Here's my controversial opinion.

Good thing I didn't start a pension already.

Putting all my money into a pension at 30 when I really needed it to live my life, only to see it drop in half because some orange lunatic in America decides to crash the global economy and wipe out the stock markets

Might take out a pension in a few years if i need to, if we don't learn from this disaster and realise that allowing the people with all the money and no brains to run the world is not such a good idea after all.

    Next edgey opinion.

Men should have the right to walk away from a pregnancy with no obligation.

Just as women have the right to abort, even if the man disagrees, the man should be able to abort his obligations even if the woman disagrees. Some caveats should apply, early stage of pregnancy only for example. Same as a womans right.

    Is that not equality?

No, it's not. Terminating a pregnancy and terminating obligations to an actual child are totally different.

If both parents could walk away from the child when born, that's equality, which we have already.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 100 ✭✭CardF

i see, so if the woman walks away from the pregnancy then the man just has to suck it up.

but if the man walks away from the pregnancy then there are consequences.

this early stage blob is just a disposable thing for the woman. but its a legal anchor for the man.

    complete control. Vs. zero control.

    on the basis of gender.

I take it you've never tried to extract a baby seat from a car through the tiny door opening a normal supermarket space affords you. It's a sarcastic re-enactment of the birth process itself

uh-oh, here we go yet again down the entirely predicable path

Here's a top tip, don't throw your jizz into a woman you'd rather not impregnate. Johnnies and vasectomies are available. And if you do want to find someone to impregnate, please discuss that with them beforehand. HTH

Western people's obsession with pensions is amazing to me. Most old people I know can easily afford to live on a state pension.

Especially these days if you're starting a pension now and you think you trust it's going to be safe considering the demographics of society, it's quite a gamble. Better to invest in something concrete.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 208 ✭✭Papagei

Would you tell women not to let a man jizz in them if they don't want a baby?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,375 ✭✭✭✭suvigirl

I see the issue. You don't see a difference between a blob, as you put it and an actual living child.

Plenty of men walk away from pregnancies everyday.

No, most women are on the ball with contraception for obvious reasons and it's entirely up to them who they let jizz where. A lot of men are thick as a brick though when the reptile brain takes over.

Thankfully we now have legalised abortion for the small % of cases where contraception fails.

Similarly, plenty of women are thick as a brick when it comes to contraception and their own reptile brain takes over.

I think that Female standup comedians will never be as funny as male comedians. Maybe Females are not designed for comedy?
I realise there are different age demographics. tastes etc but still. Even male comedians I don’t particularly like I can see what they are trying to do at least. Female comedians seem to get “lost” on the stage.

It can’t be just a numbers game, it is extremely rare that I raise even a smile from female comedians. But the likes of Bill Burr, Bill Bailey, Dermot Morgan, Kevin Bridges, Billy Connolly, Dave Allen have me laughing my head off. There is craft delivery and timing. Broad observational comedy something everyone can relate to.

The female comedians just don’t seem to have that and seem to resort to either a neurotic persona, and/or just whine about relationships. Even resorting to shouting louder to get laughs. Or repeating a line if it doesn’t land.
I happened to see an old replayed programme “The craic den” at tramline, on telly.

There were three comedians on two male one female. None were brilliant the best one was Ok-Good. All in their 20s maybe early 30’s. None of whom I ever saw before. So it was a good test could they get a laugh or even a smile out of me.

The female comic seemed to really struggle to engage with the crowd after awhile resorting to saying her lines louder to try and get a reaction. Crowd got disinterested fast. She was an attractive young woman had the “image”.

But she had no real stage craft, no comic timing which could have really landed some of her jokes. I started to feel sorry for her.

Besides the usual relationship and image lines, I remember one line where she said her boyfriend said her arse looks like the map of Ireland “You know it’s there but you just can’t place it”. Where the border is with NI etc.

It was probably her best line but she could have taken it off on all sorts of tangents but didn’t. And struggled after that.

I just don’t think females are built for comedy. Otherwise there would be at least one massive star that can draw crowds from across the board, A person who can get real laughs with well crafted jokes.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Mr A got his girlfriend pregnant. Neither wanted to be parents. She got an abortion in England.

Around the same time Mr B got his girlfriend pregnant. He didn't want to be a father but she wanted the child regardless. He walked away.

It's more than 20 years ago now but most people (who knew about the situation) don't think badly of Mr A. However a lot of the same people still resent Mr B for what he did.
