Pc crashes on boot

I have a HP pro desk that I've been running Proxmox on without issue, until a recent power outage* has crippled it. Since then, it gets 'stuck' on loading the OS, on this line.

I've checked the memory through diagnostics as it shows no errors. The SSD seems to be ok if I run a check off another machine on device manager (plugged is as an attached device, not a HD swap).

If I try to boot in Proxmox recovery mode, or try to reinstall altogether, it loads initial ramdisk, and starts the process, but around this point, it stops, and the screen/text flickers and it dies.

Power is still on but nothing happening, so it doesn't look like a PSU issue.

    Removed and reset cmos battery

    bios is up to date.

Is there anything else I should check before bringing it into a repair shop?

    • The UPS it's usually plugged into has been out of action for a while. Have new batteries due for that this week, horse bolted and all that.

Check bios settings for Proxmox, is virtualisation still turned on, secure boot off etc

All those are as should be.

Could you detail your system out a bit, please? I really don't think this is anything but the SSD but lets start from there. Also, you might have to either get another SSD or fully wipe your one. I looking at the swap partition with some suspicion.

I had run another uefi diagnostic on the pc and it did through up a short dst not found on the original SSD, so could indeed be an issue there.

However, I took out that SSD and tried to install onto a different drive, there is also a 1tb nvme pcie drive& M2 nvme 2tb one,

I get as far as the Proxmox install option screen off a usb bood drive, select install using gui, but the system crashes before getting an option to select a drive (same as when trying to reinstall on the SSD or try a restore )

    System specs

HP Pro desk 600GS sff, 8 core, i7-9700, 32gb ram

1Tb SSD, 2Tb M2 nvme drive, 1tb nvme drive in pcie slot.

So as this point I'd be prepping a live USB nix environment and boot into that. Check storage with badblocks and smartctl. Check memory with memtest+. I'm not ruling out the PSU but need to rule out the storage and RAM first. If you cannot get into a live environment we can start with stripping out parts until we do.

Go into Bios and Built In Device Options.

Start disabling what hardware you can one by one.

    Start with the embedded Lan.
