Is this light switch ok?

    I had to replace a light switch as the rocker mechanism was broken. I just replaced the wires exactly as they were on the old switch.
    A brown live wire in Common at the top, two brown live wires together in L1 at the bottom, and L2 at the bottom was not used, and the blue neutral wires were connected together and not used for the switch. It works correctly now after replacement.
    But there are youtube videos showing that it should be Live brown in Common and Neutral blue (marked with brown tape) in L1.
    Is it ok to wire the switch either way?

    Hi,

    Its fine to wire back as found previously. It seems correct. How many lights is the switch switching? If it is just the one i would guess the com and L1 are mixed up. But it is still perfectly fine and safe.

    Just one light bulb, and this is the only switch for this light.
    There are other lights on the same circuit breaker.

    You would never put a neutral in L1 on a switch like this. If you close the switch Live and neutral would short out. The you tube video you watched used the blue wire as a switch wire, hence they taped it brown. It is not a neutral conductor in this case. It is a different method of wiring.

    Your switch looks to be connected fine. Your neutrals are in the connector block. Your feeds are looped(2 brown wires in one terminal, one cable in this terminal supplies another switch in another room) and switch wire in the other terminal, powering the light when the switch is closed.

    I hope this helps you understand a bit better.
