Heard he was playing in March on the radio the other day. Surprised how low key this seems to be. Wouldn't he still have a big pull? Arguably the best songwriter of his generation. I can't remember, but I'm pretty sure his last gig here his was cancelled, as Jacqui Abbott got sick or something, but he's playing with a new girl Rianne Downey, who looked good over the summer festivals. Be a great gig I reckon. Not many artists with a catalogue of such top quality songs as Heaton!

I'll probably go. He puts on a great set although more suited to smaller venues IMHO.

Shame he doesn't like looking back.

No reissue of The Housemartins second album. There was a good deluxe edition of the debut.

No Beautiful South remasters. Plus there's loads of quality B-sides scattered across the 7", 12" and CD singles that should be gathered up in a box set - or else appended to reissues of the albums.

The Housemartins & The Proclaimers at The Bridge Hotel, Waterford was still the roughest gig I was ever at. There were similar scenes on the Dublin leg at The Olympic Ballroom.

"Gobbing on the support act, gurriers invading the stage from the balcony, half time oranges, Fat Boy Slim rapping..... it had the lot." (Donny Keane)

The last 3Arena show went ahead with Rumer as guest vocalist for a few songs. The change was announced about a week beforehand, and people were offered the chance of a refund, given that Jacqui wasn't going to be there.

What's the story with her now? She better or Heaton just prefers touring with you one Rianne Downey?

I actually came across your one Rianne like 5 years ago and followed her on FB by chance, when she had like 100 followers. She seems like a nice person, so great to see her doing well.

Never thought she was the best looking, but with the blonde hair and dresses and cowboy boots, she's very eye catching lately

The last concert in 3Arena was brilliant, and I went not even being a huge fan. This time with the Lightning Seeds as support, who were excellent a few weeks ago in the Academy. So, nothing but bangers and great (some hands down timeless) songs. And for less than 50 quid. I'm definitely going again. 😁 They don't rip their fans off. Bargain of the year concert wise.

Jacqui has an autistic son so she has stepped back from touring as she can’t manage a touring schedule whilst caring for her son.

Seems like no one took it as it was a full house and a great gig

I thought Rumer was a great fit. She only did a handful of songs, but she worked well. Plus, it was nicely incongruous to hear her sing Don't Marry Her. Also, the absence of Jacqui meant we got unique things, like Paul singing Rotterdam , which was superb.

    yeh she was/is excellent

The band was also great, with a brass section too. I think the guitarist stood in for Jacqui for a song or two if I remember.

    This was the setlist

Rianne Downey was on bbc scotland last night singing her own scottish folky type songs , sounded very good

Rianne will be excellent in March. She was superb at Glastonbury last year. Not that I was there. Just watched them on the telly. Very much looking forward to this gig.

Wow, amazing voice, beautiful talented lady. Stick them on the late late show and the rest of those 50 quid tickets will be snapped up.

Was at the last gig a couple of years ago and it was a great night, going again in March and I'd say it will be close to full again. It might be already close to full so no reason to advertise it?

Paul and the band are doing some intimate gigs around Ireland

I'll be at the portlaoise one

There you go, laid down the gauntlet there.

Will be pretty amazing in a small venue especially if it's got good sound quality.

Hopeless cause, but if a spare for the Spirit Store should occur, I'd be forever grateful!!

    Got It

    Thursday 20th March - 3Arena, Dublin

STAGE TIMES: Doors 6:30pm, The Lightning Seeds 7:30pm, Paul Heaton 8:45pm. All time subject to change

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,801 ✭✭✭SuperBowserWorld

If you haven't listened to it then Paul's latest album The Mighty Several is very good. Only takes a couple of listens to get into it. A good investment before the concert.

Also, don't miss the Lightning Seeds

I know ticket sales aren't allowed here but if you look on twitter there's a standing ticket going for 35 euro for anyone considering going. Not going to post a link as it's not allowed (Subtle as a house brick from me there, sorry)

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

I just sold 2 for 35 each, they got snapped up. Looking forward to the gig

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,326 ✭✭✭✭Tom Mann Centuria

I can't use toutless (not registered) or for whatever reason Ticketmaster (even though I resold my ticket on there no problem it won't let me sell my wife's!). So I think I'm shīt out of luck 😂.

Which makes not being able to go even worse.

Paul Heaton was fantastic. Amazing singer, great songs. Great band, super brass section. Rianne Downey has an incredible voice and accompanies him brilliantly. Listen to the new album if you are going to any of the upcoming concerts as there are quite a few songs off that. I hope the brass players are travelling to the gigs around the country.

The sound for Lightning Seeds was poor. But they did a good enough job. Not a patch on the concert in the Academy in December. Still a good warm up.

Great gig tonight, buzzing after it 😀

Paul Heaton and band were amazing. His voice still sounds like back in the day. Wow!

Shocked about TLS not playing 3 lions! Is there some kind of controversy around that song in Ireland? Massively disappointed about that.

I felt the same when they played at the Academy and it was a much longer set. But I guess they just are afraid of how it might go down.

Anyway, the Paul Heaton setlist from tonight is here ..

Caravan of Love is an incredible song to hear live with everyone in the audience (or at least those with a heartbeat) joining in. Transcendental.

And then he sang a wonderful song afterwards and I was wondering what it was and it's a Stevie Wonder song. And there was a lot of wonder in that last sentence. 😁 Anyway it was absolutely beautiful.

Happy Hour deserved the applause it got. A brilliant timeless song. My favourite Beautiful South song is Good as gold, Stupid as mud. And that was another banger live. Load of bangers. Hard to keep up at times.
