Sorry, I'm not clicking any links from Gript.

I've followed this case from the very beginning, I don't need to get my information from Gript.

If you choose to use that site as a source of information, that's up to you.

It’s mad how many times this has to be reiterated on this thread alone - just shows the power of the media - I remember when the daily mail first took up the story, transgender was all in the headline and buried in the end of the article was the real reason he lost his job.

X and other social media don’t do truth very well - people’s attention span has become very limited so people not familiar with the background to this case, especially those outside of Ireland, will likely take the transgender line as gospel they’ll only take in the headline and short summary before moving on

Why was his sister sacked from Arthur Cox?

@Fotish the only parties at fault in this scenario is Enoch who harangued the principal...

She yelled at three of the six senior partners in the firm, one of which was because she wasn't invited to a work lunch others had been invited to (who had previously worked with the senior partner and the lunch had been planned before Ammi had joined). She yelled that other colleagues weren't pulling their weight. Another colleague literally broke down and cried to one of the partners asking to be moved away from Ammi because she couldn't handle working that closely with her any more.

It basically came down to Ammi being very qualified and good at most parts of the job, but having absolutely zero social awareness, personability or basic respect for others, including those senior to her. And as a solicitor, that's still a big part of the job.

Then when she brought a case of unfair dismissal against them, she proved them absolutely right by talking over the judge, ignoring his directions and not listening to anybody, all while her mother yelled from the sidelines.

Regarding The Family visit to the USA, would they have had to compete any sort of questionnaire? And, how did the father's recent brush with the law here impact on this? Or is it relevant?

I'm sure whatever agency in the USA that deals with visitors' declarations would not be too impressed if they were misled.

It's nearly 20 years since I was there and I can't remember what the procedure was.

Do you think this shouting business they all go on with is personality driven or is it something deliberately organised? I used to think it was organised but after you reminded me of the background to how she left the company, I’m beginning to think it’s part of the Burke personality and the only way they know how to communicate.

The dressing down and complete overreaction she gave the partners that you refer to above, was done away from the cameras and more importantly, the issue at hand had nothing to do with religion or gender or any of that nonsense - it was simply a work issue. But yet she went off on a rant just like mammy - there has to be some sort of “condition” at play here, Shirley?

Homeschooling with little social interaction or having to answer to someone other than their parents could certainly be part of it, coupled with extreme religious ideology. But really, the entire family have a persecution complex (again, largely stemming from their religious beliefs). They need to feel victimised and to believe they are standing up against it because they're doing so in service of God, and therefore being worthy servants of God.

So when you're not a victim, you have to make yourself into a victim through your own actions. And because they believe they are always right and justified in their actions, it's everyone else who is wrong. So they have to loudly and publicly protest any slights against them, because if everything they do is informed by God's will and someone gets in their way, they have to show God that they are fighting for God's will. It's not really intentional (as in, they're not actively trying to instigate these events), but when something which goes against them or their beliefs happens, it is ingrained in them to fight against it.

    Basically, they be batsh*t.

The father would have needed a visa as he is ineligible for a visa waiver due to his criminal conviction for causing harm

Arguably, they all needed one as political protest is not a reason to get a visa waiver.

We have no idea what they did in regards to visas/visa waiver sand will likely never find out.

The only way I can see Ammi Burke continuing in the legal professional is through private practice. I cannot see any law firm hiring her.

Assuming the Law Society would give her a practising cert, and that she could get appropriate professional indemnity insurance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,681 ✭✭✭✭Penn

Yeah I'm sure there are probably on-going requirements to not bring themselves or the Society into disrepute (like not being dragged out of court), maintaining professional standards (like not shouting down judges during a court hearing), and general ethics requirements (like not publicly chasing down and harrassing people outside of courts).

I doubt those actual examples are written down (because who'd expect a qualified solicitor to engage in such behaviour), but I'm sure she's likely broken enough of the Society's rules that she may not be allowed to practice.

Anyone have an idea who this numptie was (in the RTE article)?

A member of the public also tried to interrupt the judge, who told him he also did not have a right of audience, telling him to sit down.

I wouldn't have thought that the poor-mouthing would be their style tbh, but it will be interesting to see if they try this angle.

It'd be likely that Ammi and her brother would be very picky on whom they'd take on as clients, given their religious reservations.

Not an option for a barrister (if he is ever, ever admitted to the rolls). Cab rank rule.

Judge Nolan being decisive, not standing for BS in Court and respecting the State’s case while refuting the distractions and deflections from the other side?

    Well, I never….

    Reads article again

David Nolan, not Martin. That explains it.

More detailed article in the IT.

    https://www.irishtimes.com/crime-law/courts/2025/03/18/enoch-burke-case-receiver-appointed-over-teachers-future-salary-in-bid-to-collect-79100-in-fines/

EB's bank account frozen until next Tuesday's hearing. Also "Counsel said his side had details concerning Mr Burke’s salary payments and anticipated his bank account may be in credit with the effect there may be additional means available for enforcement of the court’s orders."

Having worked their way through a fair share of the High Court Bench, it looks like the Burkes may have finally met their match in Mr. Justice David Nolan. He seems determined to ensure that the Court is respected.

I'd be surprised if there was much money in his account, surely they have been expecting this and if he was being clever he'd have cleared as much out as he could so it wouldn't be claimable?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,924 ✭✭✭Hibernicis

That's what a "reasonable person" would do. But then again, a reasonable person would probably purge their contempt rather than spending 500 days incarcerated.

Exactly, not only do they preach hatred but they publicly harass people who have done nothing to deserve it. They even disrupted the inquest into the death of a young woman so they could peddle Covid conspiracy theory crap, a disgusting thing to do to a grieving family

Indo has been toilet paper for a long time now and is desperate for the clicks.

do they all live at home with the parents?

Generally yes, but they have an arrangement with the Dept. of Justice where they can stay rent free in their accommodation when in Dublin.

With the action against Enoch's salary and bank account re his fees imminent, I wonder did the family do any fund raising while in America with any like minded lunatic groups.
