    Hi,

If your cars NCT expired more that 12 months ago, and you get it tested now, will the new one still backdate to the expiry date of the last NCT?

    Or start fresh?

    It's a 2007 car.

    Thanks.

If you think about it, they'd hardly give you a cert for a period during which they had never tested the car.

If you get it tested now the cert will last untill the anniversary of the first registration.

Yea what you have to do is book two tests on the same day, when you pass it the first time you get the backdated one, put it through an hour later and you get the the second one for a year.

I had to go through this recently for the first time. My car had two previous owners. Apprently it depends on the month of the very first NCT. I had mine two weeks ago and it's only valid until October. When I asked why it's not valid until March of next year I was told that it's dated from the very first one. My car's first NCT was in October of 2015 so every cert is valid only until October ech year. Hope that makdes sense. Short answer is for your car, you need to look at the most recent NCT cert and whatever month that was issued in, that's when your next cert will be valid until this year.

If you NCT due date falls within 90 days of its due date, regardless of whether it was ever tested or off the road for 10 years, you will get minimum 12 months.

Example 2012 car with a disc that expired 15/4/16 If it passed today it would get a disc until 15/4/26

I do believe if you test it after 21st August ie within 90 days of 19th November, the cert you are issued will expire on 19 November 2026

I thought that alright. I have it booked in on the 16th but being a 15 year old car it will probably fail. So I’l retest it after the 21st and hopefully it will get a long NCT
