Quick and easy to move a few grand from my An Post Deposit Account (book) to my AIB current account?

Hi.

Do I just need my Post Office book and AIB Debit Card/ATM card and can this be done right then? I want to leave some money in the An Post account to keep it open.

Hi. It's just a basic and very old book account. I don't think I can do it online.

I'd bring IBAN and Bic details with you just in case it's a fill a form paper transaction type and don't think the info on card would do. Alternatively you could just take out the cash or get a money order and lodge in nearest AIB branch, card would do fine for that lodgement. Money order would probably take time to clear like a cheque though.

Bring ID too.

You can lodge to AIBA accounts using you debit card in An Post offices.

So just go to An Post with your card and fo it.

Withdraw cash from your An Post account and give it back to the clerk with your AIB card.A few seconds transaction

A Post limit the amount you can withdraw over the counter to €3,000. If you want more than this you need to download and complete the following form and return it together with your Deposit Account Book to the address on the form. You may also have to provide certified identity information. When processed (they say to allow seven days) you will receive a cheque in the post - there is no option to supply them with an IBAN. And there is no option to transact online.

Hi Hibernicis. Thank you. So can I withdraw in cash or preferably directly move 3k from my An Post Deposit Account to my AIB Current Account right away at the Post Office?

There was no problem. A few days ago, I moved almost €3000 directly from my An Post Deposit Account to my Bank Current Account. I was glad not to have done it the long way - that being withdraw in cash and then put into my bank account.
