Dilemma over purchase of watercolour

This morning I bought a very nice framed watercolour of St. Brigid's Cathedral in Kildare. I didn't research the artist before I bought it as I liked it. When I got home I discovered that it was painted by a paedophile priest! My problem is what to do with it. I was going to list it for sale but don't want to sell it to someone who doesn't know the story of the artist. Same with giving it to a charity shop. Do I discard the painting and keep the frame. It's very nice but it just gives me the ick knowing who he was. Thoughts?

to be honest nobody here can tell you what you should do. If you don’t want the painting then maybe advertise it for sale with the artists name in the advert, the buyer can research the artist / know the history of the artist. It’s that or just throw it out and count your losses. I doubt the shop will take it back unless you say it was an unwanted gift and can you return it for store credit for something else or swap it for something else in the store, not sure that’s feasible though it may be a good will gesture from the store.

Sell it or donate it,if it pains you.You are under no obligation to disclose the painting's history.Sold as seen.

I'm on team destroy it but keep the frame. Did you get it secondhand? Inform the vendor about its origins and that you're disappointed they would sell such items. I doubt they would return your money though.

Thanks. I bought it at a car boot sale and it wasn't very expensive so I don't mind. I'll probably keep the frame. I hate destroying artwork though.

You could work it into a new piece? Or give it to someone who would? Destruction and rebirth could be ok either.

Keep it. Stay with your first impulse, since you chose it and liked it.

You may not like how Picasso treated the women he slept and lived with but you would be foolish to throw away one of his paintings.

Can you not make up your own mind as opposed to asking Rando's on the internet for advice?
