They have from the start really. They agree with his stance re the transgenderism, but not with his flaunting the laws of the land and the courts.

If only there was a way Enoch could have/could still get himself out of jail for 513 days……

Article from the Irish Times abot how much has been spent by the burke family to promote their facebook posts.

    https://www.irishtimes.com/ireland/2025/03/16/burke-family-pays-facebook-to-promote-its-video-of-their-washington-dc-protest/?

Not 513 consecutive days though. He was released a number of times and had the option not to go back but he reoffended. Of course you know that but it's important to debunk any idea that it's been one long incarceration. He can also walk free any time he likes so there's no injustice unless you think having to obe the law is unjust.

just reflecting on the burkes family in general - they’re all using the same MO- finding an “issue” and then essentially committing career harakiri.

Enoch, Ammi and Simeon have all struggled in their employments - what’s motivating this? Is it the mother? Do the burkes hold a family conference and then decide what hill to host career death?

I just find it extraordinary - the mother does definitely lead out in the mad pathetic public protests- her offspring stand respectfully a foot or two behind her - she’s definitely the one in charge.

She’s raised a family of very academically successful young men and women - and then appears to want them not to participate in mainstream Irish society - and her sons and daughters willingly obey her. It’s bizarre

Maybe then Enoch should stop hanging round at the school he was fired from years ago? Just saying !

spending somewhere between €7.5-9k a year on Facebook ads. You’d love to know where it’s coming from!

A jail he could have walked out of anytime he wished, if he agreed to comply with the High Court's order and stay away from the school.

    Just saying !

Arthur Cox must be so relieved they got shot of Ammi when they did.

As she had to pay the legal costs of her WRC foray, there'd be little left for Facebook.

They have to eat though, and they must spend a fortune on diesel with all the trips to the school and to Dublin.

In order to assess the significance of an item of expenditure you'd need know the income and other expenses.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,541 ✭✭✭Raichų

yeah it just seems like no matter how you look at them they appear to be spending money they couldn’t possibly have.

Between Enoch’s commute to the school 5 days a week, travelling to America, Facebook ads and of course running the bookshop which I can’t envision makes major money you’d wonder are they running blindly towards bankruptcy.

I don’t think they’re stupid enough to do such a thing but at the same time they are far more intelligent than any of their actions would lean towards demonstrating. I genuinely do wonder if that’s the end game here.

Exactly like Enoch from 2019-2022 was working in WHS- he said during his time working there he was renting a room in a house share and saving for a mortgage deposit.

His salary isn’t that high in fairness either so it’s hard to imagine he had much to chip in on Facebook ads.

Then running the bookshop (rent & rates, esb etc) all add up too and as I say I can’t see it making that much money!

They also are paying for bots to fill up the comment section in their YouTube videos too. If you scroll down through comments on their videos - which are 99% blindingly effusive towards everything that the Burke's do - you'll notice that the majority of comments are being left by users with the same basic format to their username: firstname, lastname, random four digit number again and again.

I wouldn't assume that these bots are directly under their control or funding.

I believe all the children that are not away studying, all still live at home.

Esther has a full time job as a secondary school teacher, she seems to keep herself out of the chaos.

I didn't realise that the Burke's are avid users of paid social media -

    Paywalled -

    https://www.independent.ie/irish-news/enoch-burkes-family-spent-thousands-on-online-ads-with-facebook-acting-as-their-21st-century-pulpit/a1283294311.html

    Paywall removed -

    https://archive.is/BCyMI

    From the article -

"Facebook is the Burke family’s 21st-century pulpit. According to Meta’s ad library, Josiah has paid €28,171 to Meta for posting 77 ads under the category “social issues, elections or politics” on Facebook from April 2019 to last Wednesday (March 12).

For a family whose modus operandi is to turn up uninvited at events, usually to heckle politicians and public figures, many of the ads capture Burke family members’ chaotic confrontations. They include videos of them heckling various public figures. Josiah paid “€400 to €499” to post a clip of family members confronting attorney general Rossa Fanning in February for “stripping” teacher Enoch of his “livelihood”. The ad featured on 170,000 to 200,000 screens. The ads don’t always last. According to the ad library, Josiah paid €600 to €699 earlier this month for an ad that ran for five days on Facebook before it was removed on grounds of “disinformation”. By then, it had made 200,000 to 250,000 impressions."

"Nearly €30,000 – or about €5,000 a year – is a significant sum to drop on a social media campaign. But as the Burkes’ Washington odyssey has shown, the family’s evangelical religious activism is a carefully orchestrated, social-media-driven operation — with ambitions to go global."

Look at the smirk of the mother Martina Burke in this image she clearly enjoys the whole thing it is an evangelical "hobby"? Instead of gardening/bingo?

    Untitled Image

She seems to be the clear driver of the whole thing. I am starting to think it should be the "mammy" that is targeted not Enoch.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Parents are retirement age- so if they planned for that then there might be 3-4k a month coming in the door between them- father is an electrician which is essentially a licence to print money when required (no offence to electricians, it’s just they know how to charge) -Enochs salary is still coming through so there’s another couple of grand a month - I do wonder what daily life is like in that house - is it a bit like the Walton’s - mammy cooks the food and daddy and kids have “chores” to do around the house?

Mammy is “control” central - I’m convinced of it - she has them under her thumb and because 3-4 of them are now incapable of making their own way in life financially, they’re beholding to her for the food they place in their mouths - “thy will be done” is likely the common phrase used in that house.

And of course young gun Elijah is already sowing the seeds of his own destruction with his student union campaign - if you were an employer would you employ him? Funnily enough even though he lost , he still received 13% of the vote- whilst some of this vote has to be people voting for him in the hope he won so they’d have a good laugh, and stirring some sh1t, I don’t think it explains all of it

There's a thought provoking article in the Indo today about them by Eilish o Hanlon.

It makes the point among others that if they were fighting against the establishment for some cause which later becomes mainstream, that they'd be lauded as heroes, like Nell McCafferty. It's mainly that their cause is lost and that society disagrees with them that so much ire lands on their heads.

Eilis O’Hanlon: Society needs people like the Burke family, who don’t give a hoot what people think of them

    https://www.independent.ie/opinion/eilis-ohanlon-society-needs-people-like-the-burke-family-who-dont-give-a-hoot-what-people-think-of-them/a278648657.html

Eilis O'Hanlon needs to give her head a wobble, if she thinks society needs homophobic and transphobic bigots like the Burkes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,715 ✭✭✭eightieschewbaccy

This is like saying society needs more segregationists… Think Eilís is just seeing a fellow contrarian .

She didnt say any of what you've attacked. Strawman much....

    Have you actually read it?

She doesn't support their stance nor methods.

    Neither do I.

What she said is that society needs the type of people who don't give a sh1t what others think of them and follow their truth as they see it.

The fact that they're clearly wrong abd out of step us irrelevant to her take on it.

Why does society need people that think the law doesn't apply to them?

I disagree that his imprisonment was unjust. I think it was entirely justified. He blatantly ignored a court order.

But they behaved like this prior to any jail time. They used have the incredibly homophobic and nasty websites about David Norris and Katherine Zappone. They ended up banned from NUIG societies, they used hand out pamphlets equating homosexuality and paedophilia.

In February 2022 they had to be removed from a public inquest into the death of a teenager due to the COVID-19, the reason they were removed was because they were actively upsetting the family of the teenager. So if anything, they've always been handled with kid gloves and their treatment of others has always been pretty atrocious. They're pretty horrible people and have been for a long time.

You. clearly didn’t read the article, in your rush for “outrage”. It is not a defence of the Burke’s beliefs. But an article on how the Burke’s methodology and determination is “admirable” in the face of overwhelming odds against them.

The Burkes act at times as if their methodology is to find the most counterproductive tactic possible, then proceed to do that with maximum fervour, whether that’s doorstopping politicians and public officials and bombarding them with loaded questions to which every answer is a potential new trap, turning up to dinners to which they were not invited, or just being generally ornery.

There is, all the same, something maddeningly, magnificently enthralling about their refusal to give a hoot what people think of them.Human beings are social animals. We have evolved to live in groups, and that requires a highly developed instinct for co-operation and compromise. Gaining the approval of the tribe is a survival mechanism. Evolutionary psychologists would say that’s why a feeling of not belonging has such a dire effect on our wellbeing.”

“Society needs people who are prepared to be awkward. It ought to be possible to find something to admire in such obduracy, regardless of whether one happens to agree or not with the stance being taken.”

O’Hanlon then stated the phrases attributed to Nell McCaffery by M.D Higgins. Figher, augmentative etc could be attributed to the Burke’s.

O’Hanlon ended the piece by laughing at the Burke’s though - as they are very ineffective in their protests.

Modern Ireland has nothing to fear from the Burkes. Stop pretending that their dissent is some unconscionable affront to anyone else’s rights. It’s not as if they’re effective at protesting anyway.”

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.
