When reading about the new Football show for younger viewers, I imagined a 2 hour live TV show they way they were talking about it, but it look like the return of The Grip just without other sports. 10:30 on Saturday mornings.

    ______

In the end they were just greedy, they all knew one another and knew what to expect more money for no return, it was a secure cash flow, but in fairness they looked for what they wanted and fair dues to them for that, and wouldn't you be doing the same!

Just one more thing .... when did they return that car

    Neighbours axed again.

    https://www.rte.ie/entertainment/2025/0221/1497992-neighbours-axed-for-a-second-time-after-amazon-comeback/

I often wonder if RTÉ or VMTV are planning for the changes to the soaps.

In a statement, RTÉ said: "RTÉ has been informed by Fremantle that Neighbours will cease production this year, following Amazon's decision not to renew its funding. It will run on RTÉ Television and on RTÉ Player until the end of 2025."

The article is associated press, but no word on what plans RTÉ have for a replacement.

Nothing else from RTÉ, like its been running on RTÉ since 2001 and is a great asset and we will be sad to see it go.

Sure it had been previously off air after getting canned in 2022, and that time RTE moved Shortland Street into the 13:55 & 18:00 timeslots. RTE 2 has recently stopped showing the Goldbergs @ 17:00 and replaced it with a BBC teenaged drama program called Get even

Basically they didn't nothing back then. As they did with the move of Coro St and EastEnders.

I notice they are only showing 25 minutes of the repeat of the LLS tonight. They normally show the full thing.

Anyone heard the reason for that? I didn't notice anything that needed to be censored out.

is there maybe a mistake in the listings? The following programme, Shortscreen, is supposed to show case short films no longer than 25 minutes in length but has been given a two hour slot.

Just did a browse of the channels. 9pm RTE 2, Father Ted.

Now, of course I love Father Ted, as do most people, but really. It's 2025, not 1995. Is there nothing else they could find to put on on a bank holiday monday night?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,034 ✭✭✭✭thesandeman

No. Shortscreen is RTE 2 and a different time after First Dates. It's only 15 minutes.

It really is on RTE One in the listings I have, honest to god.

    Shortscreen: 9 Lives from 12:15am-2:15am.

This is different from Shortscreen: The Wall which is on RTE2 from 11:30pm-11:45pm.

In some listings, the RTE One programme is billed as just “9 Lives” so not sure if the Shortscreen billing is itself a mistake.

Ah right. It just says "9 Lives" on mine. We'll find out in a few hours what's happening.

Note it says in the graphic,

    Also available on

    |RTE1| Tomorrow, 00.50

So there's an interval from 00.15 to 00.50 during which ads and '9 lives' is shown, then the rest of the Late late. Maybe I'm right, but I'm not staying up to find out.

I fell asleep myself so I've no idea what happened.

The 00:50 bit is referring to RTE1+1.

They need to show it as often as possible since they original refused to commission it.

That has been repeatedly refuted by the creator of the show that we won't mention. They never offered it to RTÉ, it was always going to be a channel 4 show…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,824 ✭✭✭RoTelly

RTÉ defacto refused to commission the show, the creators would never have been able to offer it to RTÉ as RTÉ lacked the require experience to produce it. :)

Can we please leave this discussion now please. It was had a while back and there’s really no sense in repeating it with nearly identical comments.

Since this is my second request, I’ll be handing out bans next.

Maggie's Cheap homes programme is likable, and the foreign version was interesting enough, but why have they dragged your man Kevin McGahern into it? Doing flamenco lessons with the client? Wtf is that about? It didn't need trashy padding out. He seemed terrified of looking like a tool. He was right, he looked like an absolute spanner.

extending out the minutes, they have similarly increase the number of Tommy Tiernan episodes. Basically they did some bad things (that I don't think we can mention on this thread) and now that they have secure funding (on another thread I'd call it out for what it is) they are increase episodes and the lenght of programmes rather then being ready with new commissions.

It will all pan out in the future I am sure!

None of these programs are watchable for an hour. The Brennans, Dermot Bannon, Baz shows, anything with the fat shamer, whatshername, etc. 30 mins fine, 40 is a strech, an hour is torture. Only top drama is worth an hour.

Was the racing live? It would have been nice if them to tell us about it 🙄.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 16,516 ✭✭✭✭The Cush

Yes, the racing was live. I was watching it on RTÉ 1 and as the terrestrial coverage was coming near the end they advised viewers to switch to RTÉ Player to continue watching.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,034 ✭✭✭✭thesandeman

Feckers. I was watching as well but must have been out of the room when they said that.

They actually showed lots in the Player programme, had 5 races from Cork on it as well. Hopefully more shows like this on the Player in future.
