Will the jumping pages ever be fixed. It drives me crazy on mobile.

While we are waiting for a fix, I find looking away from the screen until it stops jumping helps. You can see it in your peripheral vision enough to know when finally it settles.

Looking at the screen, or trying to scroll while it's still twitching, is not fun.

FWIW: The homepage timestamps issue has been fixed for me. But if I go to my bookamarked discussions, still there with times like

    13-03-25 %k:55 dulpit

Which isn't great, is it? If I go into a specific forum/topic, same issue:

    13-03-25 %k:01 Eod100

Thank you for highlighting this here. Work is being carried out to implement this fix on all other pages now that a fix has been tested and proven.

It seems to be fixed on just the homepage like you said, but nowhere else:

    https://www.boards.ie/discussions including: https://www.boards.ie/discussions/bookmarked https://www.boards.ie/discussions/mine

    https://www.boards.ie/categories

(FWIW: Posting links is a PITA on desktop and mobile, especially with this WYSIWYG editor)

Not sure if this has been posted before, but if a user's tagline (or whatever it's called) under their profile icon is too long, it doesn't wrap and instead pushes the alignment off, see attached:

Another broken thread. Looks like a new fix brought back an old bug. https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2058222496/solar-for-beginners-ask-your-questions-here/p75

Asian spam is back and Temu spam is not as bad but still there Mike. As asked before is the jumping near an end? It's been 5 months since it started. The threads stuck issue is still there as well, I posted examples earlier.

Can anything be done to stop the crap ads from the like of "instant buzz" appearing on Board's pages

For those who want just plain URL instead of formatted/clickable, see if it helps

Enter (aka "new line") or space after posted link/URL produces this for me

    https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2058199223/just-bugs-missing-functionality-reports-no-griping#latest

however, SHIFT+Enter before and/or after posted URL give me just plain text
    https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2058199223/just-bugs-missing-functionality-reports-no-griping#latest

    FF, Win desk

Edit: HA ha, after posting the comment first URL got converted to plain text as well :D

    image.png

and i get these popping after each URL pasted

@smuggler.ie Thanks for sharing. <Shift+Enter>, creates a new line in the paragraph. Where just return creates a hard line break!

Another handy one is <ctrl+shift+V> ~ Paste as plain text | Which will strip out any hyperlinks from the copied content!

Just did as per your suggestion (<ctrl+shift+V>) - still converts to clickable link after Enter .
inserting screenshot, as suspect it might strip it once posted

More referring to these type of links from copied content:-

    CTRL+V produces this:-

Here are the first of the humour and jokes links

April Fools Day Pranks – This list of April Fools Pranks actually got 401,000 page views over 3 days back in 2010

30 Things to Make you Smile

    The Accountant Joke

    But Ctrl+shift+V produces this:-

Here are the first of the humour and jokes links
April Fools Day Pranks – This list of April Fools Pranks actually got 401,000 page views over 3 days back in 2010

30 Things to Make you Smile

    The Accountant Joke

Page used to pull content! ~ Putting the paste content in quotes stripped out headers.

What is the reason for the formatting on new post comments having extra line spaces. Is there some setting I need to change myself? I've noticed it for the past couple of years - but always thought it was some site issue which eventually get resolved.

    For example…

    Example Bold Heading

    Example line of text

How do I get rid of the extra line spaces between these? Posts end up too long with all the extra white space.

I think Corkie posted a solution upthread,
If you hit Shift+Enter you get a new line without creating a new 'paragraph'

@Quantum Erasure It was @smuggler.ie that originally raised it, I was just explaining why it works!

As for mobile, got this reddit result from a search: -

I've never seen an app with "soft return" on mobile, although Excel and OfficeSuite have workarounds in for soft returns in spreadsheets.

Having said that, if you're on Android, and use the built-in Gboard for your keyboard, here's what I've done:

On your computer, create a soft return in some app that syncs with your phone

On your phone, highlight & copy that soft return

In your Gboard, tap Setting (the gear icon), then go to Dictionary > Personal Dictionary > All Languages (or whatever language you want)

Tap the "+" in the upper right corner

In the "type a word" field, PASTE that soft return you copied

In the "optional shortcut" field, type a shortcut for this "word" you're adding to your dictionary (I start all my shortcuts with "rr", so mine is "rrreturn".

    Back out of the dictionary

Now, I can type "rrreturn" in any app my phone, and I get a soft return.

If copy and pasting a newline character directly works, you can create an iOS shortcut using the iOS feature, e.g. assign (ret) -> \n

Just a note a soft return works to keep you in a quoted text as well!

Edit: - Just wondering how the heck are you suppose to copy a soft return in the first place? Tried the \n on gboard but doesn't work!

Have you tried to copy the section of text and then paste it in between prepared quotes

    ———————————————————————————
    "copied text" - from notepad
    ———————————————————————————
    "

    copy the section of text

    "
    ———————————————————————————
^^^ this one from this post itself. This is somewhat

EDIT: actually quotes have nothing to do with it, just that i might use for quote purpose. Any text or even single letter character copied from the page and posted back produces x3 new lines

@smuggler.ie Thanks for above answer to me I think!

But it still doesn't answer how to copy just a 'Soft Return' part ONLY and paste that into gboard dictionary!
    ~ as instructions above!

Even if I copy it in to 'Keep' it is hard to just select a blank zone on android to copy it again!

Manage to copy to gboard but boards turns it into a hard return anyway!

@Boards.ie: Mike what is the current situation with a plan to move to a different platform?

Its very clear vanilla isn't working and the bugs are actually outpacing the fixes so the site is getting worse and worse.

Surely it's time now for a transition to "plan b" as it were, even if that involves building a community driven platform alongside and transitioning once ready

my post was not answer to you - i am not mobile user for boards. Cant comprehend how it can be used for posting on mobile at all 😊, reading is hard enough with all that jumping and ads

    writing/editing? sure i attempted, see…
What i done here is i copied "soft break"(SHIFT+Enter created on PC saved as draft) to clipboard and inserted to new post , then added text after - THE RESULT:

    image.png

Seriously?! two blank lines and 8 characters after is still to short .

Anyway, see if it gets you anywhere.

Rich Text Editor. To edit a paragraph's style, hit tab to get to the paragraph menu. From there you will be able to pick one style. Nothing defaults to paragraph. An inline formatting menu will show up when you select text. Hit tab to get into that menu. Some elements, such as rich link embeds, images, loading indicators, and error messages may get inserted into the editor. You may navigate to these using the arrow keys inside of the editor and delete them with the delete or backspace key.
