In 1870 New York had the highest Irish born population of anywhere on earth, almost solely due to famine and post-famine emigration. Cork was just behind, but a long way down from its pre-famine pop. of 850,000.

In the UK Lancashire and Lanarkshire (Glasgow) were much higher than London, this would change in the 20th Century.

Also notable are the populations of Roscommon, Leitrim and Sligo, which were still at this point to lose another 2/3 of their population.

Today, only 8 counties, 5 in the South and 3 in the North exceed their pre-famine populations.

Didnt know Cork had a bigger population than Dublin back then, ? Pre-famine population of 850 hundred thousand in Cork alone is bonkers ,it's nearly 500,000 now ,

1 in 7 turks live in Balkans and the map only shows full countries. Equally, most of Romania is not in the Balkans geographically but is also shown even though only the small portion south of the Danube is traditionally considered "balkan"

Norway so high because Swedish is relatively close to Norwegian, but they don't really speak it, they just understand each other when speaking their own languages. So I think 43% is OTT.

Finland high because of the number of immigrant 1st and 2nd generation as well as the ethnic Swedish population along the west coast, but I still think 44% is a bit high.

Finland is high because all Finns speak Finnish and Swedish and everyone under 60 also learnt English.

The video above and the maps below show the densest neighbourhood in each European country based on their population in 2018.

In this case neighbourhood is being defined as 1km x 1km square (1 KM2), with the number of people being shown.

The video and maps were created by Alasdair Rae and you can read the full explanation here.

The neighbourhoods ranges from a high of 52,767 people in Barcelona Spain to a low of 2,030 people in Schaan Liechtenstein.

Whatever about other countries, the ICE in Germany and surrounding countries has more lines than in the above map (which further embarrasses the US network)...

Irrelevant fact: my work has meant I often need to travel from Freiburg to Berlin. Before I joined the company, colleagues would always have got the train up to Frankfurt and then flown on to Berlin. I encourage them to go with the stress-free means of travel while having internet access when you're on the ICE. Time-wise there was no significant difference between the two modes so I'm not sure why they originally went with rail & flying.
