Hopefully it stays this way. Would be a great addition. I will wait a few weeks before trying.

Ah yeah, I thought you meant the Maynooth one. I find delivery an issue with loads of places, always prefer to go and get stuff myself (but I'm lucky that I live right in the middle of town)

Are the travellers still outside the graveyard or moved on?

Still outside. Disgraceful and disguting carry on out of them. Top of the range vehicles etc. No doubt the place will be left in a mess too.

It was rezoned from agriculture to mixed use I think but read housing. The owner of that site has been trying to get this changed since the last housing estates on the rathcoffey road were built.

All those fields will be filled with houses. There will be no ring road built before this.

Does the site extend all the way west to the L5041 (the road Jackson's Bridge is on)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,165 ✭✭✭Staplor

Yeah seems to come out right beside the bridge from what I see

I thought people at the graveyard were allowed to rest in peace? ✌🏻

Justeat claiming there's a "Fishers Fish & Chips" on Main Street now - erm, where? Yet another brand in Fusion or Food Guru?

Nobody has taken over Romayos anyway, unfortunately. Although their quality has improved marginally

Yeah, I stopped ordering from Food Guru since the multiple brands popped up. Its a major red flag.

The menu in general is bizarre. Nonsense names for some Indian dishes when they could just go with the the traditional, recognisable names. No need to give them "funky" names.

Don't really think much of a place that has several different cuisines going on. German Kebabs, a limited selection of Indian dishes, several types of wings and chips, seems like a takeaway with an identity crisis. Doesn't fill me with confidence.

Ordered Kubideh and German Kebab to share from Smoking Goat, both were very nice. German one is on just eat, it says its in a pita, but I think it was just a naan. The masala chips were amazing.

Does anyone know what's happening in the old Elite Bakery? Looks pretty obvious that McMahon's have bought it given the new paint job. Hopefully not just an extension of McMahon's.

Almost certainly is. McMahons front lounge is actually fairly small, and back lounge a bit soulless IMO. This would allow them expand front lounge very easily, and I've no doubt they'll add a patio area to front - similar to what Donatellos have. It must kill McMahons on sunny days to watch Bradys clean up with their outdoor area in the square

No planning and no commencement notices for planning exempt but BCAR controlled works have gone in; so nothing major can happen yet.

Allure salon down by Apache looked stripped out when going past at the weekend. Also noticed there's a tiny carpets place in the units at Tesco now - when all you're doing is looking at the sample books it doesn't need to be big of course. The chipper at Greenfield was a Des Kelly Carpets in the 80s!

Bring back the El Dorado chipper. Food was top notch back then

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 76,055 ✭✭✭✭L1011

And they sold basic groceries til ~1am. Geraghtys shut early enough and Donovans was just a newsagents.

El dorado did an amazing veggie burger. Was just chips, cheese, ketchup and mayo in a bun. Good memories

Really disappointing to read that Dart + is on pause pending high court case of 2 businesses near Navan Road / Ashtown claiming about how it's going to disrupt their business 🙄 Crazy that in this day and age something so strategically important can be paused on this basis.

Lol. A sham. If it was to put in a pointless cycle lane or greenway it would be full steam ahead.

We should start a book on what will start first the Maynooth ring road or dart +. Most of us will be dead and buried before we could collect id say.

    On McMahons

Its great to see tbh. Hopefully they do put in a nice outdoor area usable 12 months of the year. The roost is manky so its a no go for most. Bradys is ok but you wont get a seat most of the time outside on a decent day. If McMahons get the food right they will clean up.

On chippers. Both of them are diabolical. Had a smokin goat and wasnt overly impressed by it. Orient chinese is poor and golden palace not much better with a limited menu.

I think most takeways everywhere have just gone to the dogs though.

Thing is, front of McMahons will be in shade most of the day but it would catch the evening sunsets in Summer.

Bradys really have it made with that space in the Square

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,510 ✭✭✭crl84

They already have a patio area at the front in summer months, which is basically the same as Donatellos. Donatellos just looks a bit nicer:

At best, they'll probably just be putting more dividers/tables in front of the Elite building and maybe make it a little nicer. Very little chance they'll get PP to do anything noticeable as there isn't the space, and zero chance they get PP to knock some of the building to make it "outdoors".

McMahons also suffers with the closeness of the buildings across the road, so gets in the shade earlier than the square/Bradys.

Shade or no shade won't make a difference, there's so little space there. If Brady's patio is busy, so will McMahons.

Its not bradys patio. They dont own that area.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15 Samosa_122

Well it's not the publics! Covid allowed these pub owners to basically take over parts of the foot path/public areas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24 MelonHead88

Yeah would agree that it's a fairly soulless place. Admittedly I've never been in the front lounge, hopefully they do something decent with the extension.

They need to remove the traffic island outside the glenroyal going towards the town with mill street being choked. If you are going toward the town from the straffan road the left turn onto the main-street is backed up hundreds of meters. It is impossible to turn right toward tesco. Only a couple of cars get through at any one time. I think there is plenty of scope there to make that right turn lane longer. At the moment it is causing catastrophic tailbacks.

When is the canal opening? Thought it should be long opened by now?

And what idiot decided to put a cycle path on the main road when the canal path is literally 4 yards parallel to it.

Went to the Leixlip Lidl yesterday. It's a bit crap isn't it?

Definitely doesn’t have the same range of products that the old Maynooth store had; store was physically dirty too.
