Opening the can of begrudgery, they are another sports washing project - disappointing to lose to that in any context. 1.9 bn spent on players since 2013 i think.

i personally would like to see Jota diaz and nunez moved. Robbo final ball was poor continually. Fatigue is beginning to show and last night the subs didn't have an impact.

How do you know they were going into their changing room? I've never heard anything like it during a post match interview regardless of the level of tie. To me it was the natural crescendo to the arrogance they've shown all week in the media.

No class whatsoever. I've no problem with losing, just can't abide that unsportsmanlike behaviour.

What did you think about Doucoure giving it loads to the Liverpool fans? I'm sure you had the same view there as well.

The silver lining now is that without the chance of a CL final on May 31st it should guarantee that winning the league results in open top parade the day after the Palace game on the 26th

    Get booking those flights!

It’s funny isn’t it, we are 15 points clear at the top of the league but in need of massive investment in the summer IMO. Two forwards two midfielders and arguably two full backs, and that’s if Salah and Van Dijk stay.

My dad said last night before the shoot out is it too late for Kelleher to come on. That would have been interesting to watch.

Having reflected in it overnight, we didn't play well enough to win to be honest, can have no complaints. With the X I on the field at the end, penalties was always gonna be a problem. There was no depth there at the end. What did disappoint me was the lack of energy in extra time, and lack of impact of the subs. Darwin was just walking about at the end, likewise Harvey made no impact, and Jones was poor.

Hard reset for Sunday, need to put this game behind very quickly. What it means for the individuals and contracts I don't know, another early knockout in Europe, past 16 will have implications financially I'm sure. For one thing, anyone pushing the Balon D'Or for Salah is off the mark, not for the first time he's been neutralized in a big European Knock Out game.

As the old saying goes, you learn more from you losses than anything else. And I think Slot will have learned a lot from these 2 games.

Liverpool just don't have that direct pace up front when coming up against the very best sides in Europe, (I think Gakpo was a huge loss to them) and it was the stand out difference between the sides. Look how quick PSG could get Liverpool on the back foot with direct runners and slick, quick passing interchanges. Diaz, Jota and Nunez don’t really offer anything against truly top class opposition. It leaves Liverpool over reliant on an ageing Salah, and you knew Mendez had his number 1 on 1. Salah needed help, and with Jota causing little to no threat, and Diaz meandering aimlessly around the place, he was getting none of it from his fellow front players.

It also overexposes Liverpool’s midfield, not having those direct runners, and been able to strike fear into opposition defense, means they can take that chance and push up into the middle, creating easy passing lanes around Liverpool’s press. For large parts of those 2 legs the Liverpool midfield chased shadows.

Slot was stoic in the post match press conference.

Already made 6 subs at that point

Taking off Szoboszlai, who is Hungary's penalty taker, was a strange one

I think injuries have taken a toll on Jota. He struggled to contribute in the middle like Firmino when he joined but he was lethal in front of goal. But his goal form seems to have deserted him. Did I read that it's now 4 years since his last Champions League goal? That said, he could be kept next season as a fifth or sixth choice, some one to bring on if you need a goal. If he's fit of course. Better back up choice than Chiesa. I don't understand that transfer. I would have thought that last night was the night for Chiesa. Seems like his time in Liverpool will be short. I assume Gakpo was brought on with an eye on penalties, he didn't look fit otherwise. Surely someone like Chiesa would have been better, at least more mobile. That FA Cup match looks to made up Slot's mind on him.

I don't think that we'll be in the market to sign two midfielders. We need one that can come into the team when needed that is closer in level to what we already have. There's too much of a drop in level when Gravenberch, Mac Allister or Szoboszlai are replaced. The game last night highlighted that, one player of the right quality would make a significant difference.

I was surprised that Jota started the game. He offered nothing in the first leg and although he was better last night he never looked like he was going to get near to having a scoring opportunity.

Diaz was more positive in this game and looked more like the energizer bunny that burst into the side under Klopp, unfortunately he also demonstrated the poor decision making when in sight of goal that we saw from that player.

There's nothing to be said about Nunez. Gakpo looked like he's weeks away from being ready for the team which surprised me and had me wondering why Slot didn't opt for Chiesa as the wildcard option from the bench.

    In the league this season:

    Diaz 9G 4A

    Gakpo 8G 3A

    Jota 5G 3A

    Nunez 5G 2A

That's a total of 27 goals and 12 assists between the 4 of them.

Salah himself has 27G 17A, therein lies the problem.

Jesus lads, some of you are very hard to please. Some of these players you want rid of have us 15 points clear at the top of the league.

I’d be very disappointed if Diaz, Jota or Nunez left this summer. We can definitely get someone better/more suited in to lead the line but Jota and Nunez are perfect squad players and Diaz is a first team player all day long.

Hopefully Virgil stays but we could be looking at replacing Robertson, Trent and Salah so I wouldn’t want too much additional change with the exception of getting in a quality striker for playing through the middle.

I also think/hope Bajcetic has a role in the squad next season as I thought he looked a fantastic prospect when he did play for us.

imagine if we had have invested in Kvara instead of Nunez last season. He was class yesterday.
Think that psg team is the most complete team I’ve seen in the champions league in a while.

Ever since Salah joined he has been the main goalscorer. The difference previously was that Mane was there who could show up on a big occasion - the 2 goals against Bayern in the R16 in 2019 for example. Bobby wasn't a goalscorer but could show up on the big occasion. Origi was also knocking around.

Gakpo and Diaz returns in the league are poor in the context of a team with a runaway lead.

With the exception of Salah, I don't think any of those forward options get significant mins at the likes of Real or PSG.

9 of those Salah league goals were penalties.

If Diaz took and scored those 9 penalties then himself and Salah would be equal on 18 goals each.

I get you're a big Diaz fanboy for some reason but this is one of the most inane things I've ever read on here

And by the way Diaz has taken 3 penalties in his entire career and missed 2 of them.

Lads, if you can’t discuss context then there’s never any discussion to be had. In that case everything is black or white.

Probably the same guys that talk about ‘if that Quansah header went in’ and not realising the contradiction.

If a player had 10 goals and 9 of them were penalties the talk would be about only one goal from open play. I don’t take penalties seriously when looking at goals scored. I’d argue they shouldn’t count in a golden boot race.

Guess Liverpool are lucky now to have midweeks off while Arsenal will have to play a team from Madrid in April. 😊

    My thoughts on last night.

i think a huge difference/ lacking at present compaired to previous teams is the lack of true pace particularly up front. Mo is outstanding but geting on a bit and the speed isnt there that used to be obviously. Diaz is tricky, works hard but mane had true pace, bobby had more pace than jota . This has an effect in matches like last night. PSG had loads of speed for breakouts which gave us all minor heart attacks a number of times.

Robbo was poor for the first half but did imporive in the 2nd half and did put in some excellent crosses. Trent also came into it in the 2nd half and was very good up to when he got injured.

While slobo and mac did look tired when they came off do i think ( and did at the time) taking them off was a mistake with the penalties looking more and more likley .

Sunday is huge now. Slot will have a job to get the players ok for it both mentally and physically.

Despite just one goal in 120 minutes, that was a thrilling game last night. PSG were just that shade better than Liverpool and really it was Becker again that saved us from being beaten in regular time. Not that we didn't play well, but PSG were incredibly organized at the back and we just couldn't find a way through. They had Salah and Diaz well managed, and there wasn't really anyone else through the middle offering a threat. I think Konate's long shot was the best I saw come through the middle. We needed more of that. With so much pressing forward then, we looked vulnerable on their counter but the two CBs and Becker did a phenomenal job.

Where I felt we showed weakness was in our lack of depth on the bench to offer something different. Someone else said it above, the subs didn't really change the game for us. Nunez ran a lot but didn't add any bite to our attack (and took an awful penalty). Gakpo and Elliot, both ET subs were nowhere to be seen. Endo and Quansah were forced subs that did fine to be fair. Jones was decent coming on too. Fair play to him volunteering to take a peno but that was a bad peno.

Imagine going to Villa this weekend for a league game, I wouldn't fancy us

Glad that the Villa game got moved and we're off to Wembley instead - exactly the kind of tonic needed

Nunez was signed in July 2022. Kvaratskhelia plays a different position, the player he would likely displace is Diaz who was signed by Liverpool in January 2022.

Kvaratskhelia wasn't on the radar at the time of that signing, he moved from Georgian league to Napoli in the summer window admittedly for a bargain price. In his career to date, 12 goals in a season has been his best return.

He looks exciting but I don't think he has the end product that we need from a forward player to take the burden off of Salah. Despite how frustrating he can be at times, Diaz has provided a better goal return over the past few seasons.

Calling Nunez the perfect squad player is quite amusing.

You don't know what you are going to get with Nunez. He can be great or, unfortunately more often, he can offer nothing. He can't even be relied on to have an impact off the bench.

He is literally the exact opposite to a perfect squad player.

Yeah if we won the shootout I'm sure there'd be people say Kvara is all flash and no substance, all those chances across 210 minutes and no goals to show for it

Mad to think the season could be effectively over on Sunday. Arsenal don’t look remotely capable of injecting any jeopardy into the title ’race’.

I was really hoping for a decent run in the CL to add a bit of spice. The most annoying part is the game was there to be won last night. A goal in those first 10 minutes and I think we go on to win the tie comfortably.

Sunday is going to be a tough ask now.
