An elderly friend was told she would have to get her new meter earthed at an extra cost. Is this true?

what’s wrong with the general Earth for the whole building?

l can’t find any information when I google search. There is no mention of it on the smart meter info on Electric Ireland.

i have tried to find something in the gov.ie building regulation. Nothing under fire safety, Parts C to K appear irrelevant.

I thought I’d find there might be a chance of something in Part L. Zilch

I appear to be search in the wrong place, so I am wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction for this new requirement. (Perhaps it’s not new?) Thank you

    Thank you

The electrical forum is your best best:

    Electrical — boards.ie - Now Ye're Talkin'

But it's not unusual that works are required to old installs to meet new standards and regulation. Do mention the age of the building, is it in an estate/one off etc. If the existing install is deemed unsafe it could be disconnected (but you'll get better answers in the electrical forum).

Thank you. I checked my own meter and it has its separate earth, so it must be a regulation.

just impossible to find where it is written down. These government documents are so easy to get lost in.

Hi guys, yesterday I had a smart meter installed and I was left this letter. I am wondering is this a similar situation? My house is 20 years old. Is this just an advisory note or would it be serious? Thanks in advance

Sorry don't think the photo uploaded but it says something along the lines - main protective conductor/earthing missing - 16mm2 cable required
