I listened back to the items on riverdance and enduring power of attorney, Duffy had a right wasp up his arse yesterday about something, particularly gruff yesterday

did he ever read out the statement from the law society? Probably not as it didn’t suit his narrative

clearly not getting on the arts council stung him, a bitter comment to bring that up.

    Do they even read Boards?

Many listeners took to social media to comment on their surprise at the language used. "Oops, turn down your mic Joe." While another asked, "Did Joe Duffy just have a cut off your man under his breath?" and "Kinda get the feeling Duffy doesn't agree with this caller..." followed by a smirking emoji.

you can listen to the episode here

First time he's sworn in 37 years, and his mike just happened to be switched on?

    Yeah right!

I think he said it was an application to get on the board of the National Gallery rather than the Arts Council.

I feel sorry for him on this, actually. Regardless of what many, including myself, think of his abilities on here.

Joe has had a stellar career, which is probably coming to an end (as we know it) soon enough. He has ended up being RTE highest paid radio presenter and has had a huge profile for nearly 40 years. He seems to care deeply about the visual arts.

Him being turned down like that must reflect an attitude towards him by "official Ireland". His accent, born on "the wrong side of the tracks", the nature of Liveline - mostly auld wans, cranks and worse. Not the sort to be on the board of one of our premier cultural institutions?

It's hard to believe that he'd be turned down to be on that board. Although effing and blinding on air probably wouldn't help.

In case you're interested, here's a list of the current board members of the National Gallery…..

Apart from full time artists and a few "inclusivity" people, there's plenty of legal and finance types on there. I note the Chair is a stockbroker who describes himself as an 'artist'. A photographer who has exhibited and published a couple of books of his work.

Current members of the Board of the National Gallery of Ireland are:

    • Adrian O'Carroll (Chair) | Independent Non-Executive Director and Artist
    • Dr Sandra Collins | University Librarian at University College Dublin
    • John Conlon | Chairman of the Office of Public Works, (OPW).
    • Diana Copperwhite | Member of the RHA, contemporary artist.
    • Gary Coyle | Member of the RHA and Aosdána
    • Dr Michelle D. Cullen | Managing Director, Board member and Head of Inclusion and Diversity at Accenture International
    • John Dardis | President Royal Dublin Society
    • Dan Flinter | Chairman of the boards of PM Group Holdings, The Irish National Stud and Gardens, The Irish Times and VCIM Venture Capital
    • Caroline Grant | HR leader
    • Professor Pat Guiry | President of the Royal Irish Academy
    • Margie McCarthy | Director of Research and Policy Insights, Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland.
    • Terence McCrann | Mediator, Solicitor and Senior Counsel
    • Abigail O'Brien | President of the RHA, Contemporary Artist
    • Dr Ciarán O’Carroll | Lecturer specialising in Enterprise & Sustainability at Technological University Dublin
    • John O'Doherty (Vice Chair) | Managing partner KOD Lyons Solicitors
    • Hilary Hough | Vice-President Royal Dublin Society
    • Niamh O’Connor | Board Secretary

And it seems none of them thought to ask about how to get a large scanner into their building. Maybe Joe might have taken out the measuring tape to check, if he had been there.

Joe: No-one wants to hear about an oil tanker on fire.

So why did you open with it considering it was on the news 5 minutes previously???

The caller is as confused as the rest of us as to exactly why he is on Liveline

DJ Joe kicking back, putting his feet up, having a break and a KitKat less than 5 minutes into the start of the week, as he plays a 60 year old song.

I hope he plays Free Bird by Lynard Skynner next. That way he will have gotten about 20 minutes out of playing tunes.

Hopefully rumours of conscription are spread and Liveline gets calls from mothers saying their son isn't cut out for the army life.

Nobody ever asks about the carbon emissions from the wars.

If Joe keeps playing songs from the 60's, this could end up being quite a good show today.
