Hoping someone can please give me some guidance here.

I do a lot of advertising using Amazon and am changed by each territory I advertise in (EU, UK, CA, US, AU etc).

I get vat invoices from amazon and know I can claim back for the EU countries. But can I claim back VAT from the non-EU ones? They all have a VAT number starting with EU included on the invoices, and reference VAT at 23% including the Euro conversion.

Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction?

Just to be clear you cant claim EU VAT on your Irish VAT returns to Revenue, there is a seperate scheme to apply for a refund of VAT in another EU country through the Electronic VAT Reclaim (EVR) scheme

If you’re registered for Intra EU VAT then they should charge you 0% VAT in any event and you would then need to account for the VAT on the reverse charge basis.

There’s no way to reclaim non EU VAT as far as im aware, but for B2B im not sure if they should be charging VAT in any event

Yes, you can potentially reclaim VAT (or equivalent taxes) on advertising expenses paid to Amazon in non-EU countries, but the process varies depending on the country.

While EU VAT reclaims are straightforward via the EU VAT Refund Directive, non-EU countries have their own rules.

For UK you can use their HMRC’s online portal for overseas businesses (Form VAT65A) to claim your VAT return.

For CA file a GST/HST rebate (Form GST189) with the CRA.

You can do some research for other countries. In order to calculate your VAT, you can use this VAT calculator, I have been using it and found it very helpful.
