Where to get a job with a bad work history?

I'm 26 and currently looking for a minimum wage job but I'm getting no replies or rejections when I email my CV on Indeed and similar sites. I imagine that my poor work history might be putting them off (only began working at 21 and that was during the summer when in college). I also left on bad terms so I can't exactly get a reference.

You're only young so don't worry too much, it could be a lot worse.

Look out for the Civil Service TCO and CO campaign competitions and apply for those but read up on the threads from the last campaigns, here on boards, on how they work and when roughly the next ones will be. You will need to sign up for alerts on publicjobs. If you got a degree in college then you could look into the AO grade.

Sign up for some sort of course to improve skills, take steps to show you are learning from past mistakes.

Do some CV writing training or pay someone to write your CV as that might be your main problem.

Find something local, where you can walk in and charm somebody, and then follow up the formalities with your CV. Loads of local shops, cafes, bars are looking for staff.

Once you get a job, it'll be a lot easier to get your next job.

It's been a while since I worked in the hospitality industry, so the job market may be a bit tougher at the moment, but try looking for work as a kitchen porter. The place I was in was so desperate they were taking on staff with almost no English to work as porters.

It's a tough job, but could be a good stepping stone to becoming a chef ifIt's a tough job, but could be a good stepping stone to becoming a chef if you're interested in that anyway, or just have some experience on your CV.

Get onto your Intreo center and they will get you training and help with your CV. It can be a slow process, especially at the start, but chase up if you don't get replies.

Find Activation Support for your local Intreo center in the link below
