The whole thing is , the same Capitol Hill that was attacked. The democrats holding up signs. The Republicans clapping and standing. Some shouts of “yah”. The cynical use of relatives of victims of murder who all were handpicked because the offender was illegal.
Having a police officer relative who was murdered, but no mention of what happened the police officers on Jan 6th they got pardoned.

Americans are just a bit odd, because they all believe in American exceptionalism.

But I have to admit Trump has it wonderfully choreographed. Even using a child with Cancer made a “special agent”

The Democrats need to up their game on the political manipulation, and showmanship or it could be few generations before they get back in.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

The EU should not reduce a thing to Trump. Let him enter another trade war with another market, see who lasts longer on that one. Just a reminder, the EU is the largest single market, it’s a customs union. You can’t single out Germany on this, but you try to paint the EU as weak and feeble compared to the US when it’s not.

The EU will make mince meat of Trump.

Saying he will get Greenland one way or another…sounds stable.

I really hope America suffers now, I really do.

Doge is not saving money it's aim is to take apart the federal government to erase federal regulations on corporations and reduce any possible oversight of trump or his friends .some services will be handed over to private company contractors who can charge more than government workers .we are already seeing results of doge chaos in national parks more accidents in air travel .

People still pay taxes but for mediocre government services

Musk is either a stupid idiot or does not understand the simple concept of pensions eg you pay taxes on your salary but you get medicare and a pension when you retire

The rich get richer while the ordinary American citizens have a lower quality of life .the most qualified skilled workers will be sacked to be replaced with trump cronys who are barely qualified .

This is happening so fast the democrats have barely time to react backed by the extreme conservative supreme court trump is acting like a king with unlimited power

Musk was not elected by anyone but has the power to destroy the federal government.

This is the worst of times climate change is ignored while corporations will use ai to replace millions of workers .

When the next disaster floods wildfires happen we will see the cost of a weak federal government with reduced resources to help the public

    Hang on a second.

This is not an "either or" situation. This is not about fighting for transgender rights, or fighting for the economical survival of the public.

They should block *every* unfair bill.

They are and should be about protecting minorities.

They managed to get the numbers here, presumably with some assistance from Republicans.

They will *also* be fighting other unfair bills, as they should, and pushing forward on bills that help Americans.

If what you are saying is true, that THIS is the reason they lost the election, that can only be a damning indictment of how easily the American public are distracted by culture war nonsense and can't focus on other stuff too.

Everybody knows this is (one of the reasons) the Democrats lost the election. Just such a ridiculous hill to die on, and so frustrating that the democrats are still banging the same old drum that is so unpopular with US voters.

By blocking the bill on Monday all they did was to inflict more self harm to the Democratic cause!

Trumps executive order on this one issue is a resounding Hit with the US electorate. Why anyone would argue that it is a good thing for males to compete against females (girls) is beyond me, it's unpopular, it's dangerous (in contact sports), it's really unfair to women & girls, and yet this is what's advocated by those who believe in an ideology with no basis in reality.

To change the subject, big sigh of relief this morning re the US still being in NATO. There had been some talk that Mr T might pull the plug.

"Trumps executive order on this one issue is a resounding Hit with the US electorate"

Well, as you believe that to be true, and I don't (because there is no empirical evidence to say so) we won't agree on the rest of your statement.

ah stop, allowing a child to transition before puberty is the argument? A 10 to 12 year old.

In any case “exceptions” prove the rule.

I have many relatives in the States who campaigned relentlessly for The Democrats over many decades. Now they are disillusioned, claiming that the Democratic party is 'lost'. How did the Democrats lose their way so badly, so quickly.

Trump is running around stating that he will increase tariffs further if other countries apply counter tariffs. What planet is he on. He expects countries to allow the US to impose tariffs on them abd not respond.

He is also planning to sack half the IRS staff. He is going to break the US. Musk is posting about removing there old are pension abd medicare. This is bongo economics

Republicans against freedom of association, one of the fundamental freedoms that exist in an open society. What business of a government is it who a sports organisation and their members choose to allow to compete in their sport.

But this is no surprise, the only freedoms MAGA is interested in is the freedom to spout their nonsense while beating down on the "other" and openly surprising free speech that doesn't suit their agenda. See Trump threats against comedians, removal of books, banning words in publications etc etc etc

I'd actually say it's far from certain that Trump targeting transgender people won him the election. It's your pet topic more than anything. You don't say a word about the consequences though. Eg the veteran who was transgender that killed herself after Trump targeted transgender people in the military. Or how about that child that killed themselves because her classmates promised that she would be deported? By your logic, the Democrats should also not go after Trump's policy of viewing any non white person as an illegal, who cares about consequences.

Meanwhile you're remaining silent about his support for Andrew Tate. Ignoring all the sex offenders and people who have covered up sexual crimes in the administration. The one good thing in your mind is he's targeting a minority that you want him to target and you're annoyed the Dems aren't rolling over. They absolutely should not roll over for intolerant gits like Trump.

The Republicans are destroying the nation, piece by piece, and making threats to the rest of the world, just like people warned that they would, and you still have some people trying to blame the Democrats because of

    …checks notes…

    transgender people.

    🙄

Trump and his cabinet are a far more danger to women than any manufactured nonsense about an infinitely tiny amount of people in society.

The bill, if passed would have seen the banning of male athletes from women's & girls sports teams, but the bill didn't pass because the democrats blocked it by voting against it on Monday.

Just how the Americans react to this stupidity remains to be seen, but judging by my own connections across the pond the majority of them really want this self identity madness to end, not least because it's harming the Democratic cause so much. Being Pro women & girls in sport is not necessarily anti trans, (it's just Pro female sports for female competitors) Fairness for females in sport - without males who identify as female. Biology matters, not least for 51% of the US population who are not male.

This is your pet issue, you don't care about how the Trump administration targets transgender people and I'm assuming you view each time he does it as a win. Equally you don't seem to give a **** about him protecting sexual abusers etc. The reality is Trump's popularity is gonna be hit by default because he's hitting Americans in the pocket.

Noticeably you're also remaining pretty silent when I point to people dying as a result of his direct targeting of minority groups. But hey, if it's popular with the public right? I'm sure targeting Muslims will also be popular with the public, Democrats should not oppose that either right?

Maybe Transgender eggs? And….I dunno…. Chemtrails ….because why not?

For some people it was the cost of living, for others voting habits, and for the most craven MAGA voter you could throw any stupid inhumaine nonsense in there, because their vote was about voting in a mascot who'll "other" all those people they don't like.

But for the rest…fantastic ignorance of American politics by the Americans themselves is what got Trump the win. If any amount of attention was being paid by them regarding Trump, all of those who didn't vote (for whatever reason) would have gotten out and given the win to Harris. Whatever you can say about the Dems, they are not handing Federal management to a nitwit TechBro who thinks it's alright to simply fire critical staff like Flight Traffic Controllers, nor to decrepit gouls who would rather see Americans go unvaccinated than admit error.

Don't go blowing my trumpet just yet fella. I was talking to a particularly concerned poster in relation to what has happened to date. The future is much more uncertain. The idiot and his idiotic team have the potential and capacity to do a lot of damage. Trump is testing the boundaries at the moment. I was intrigued at the level of support he still has in the Congress. That will embolden him. And I was a little disappointed that Zelensky folded so quickly - that letter was grovelling.

The American people will need to suffer somewhat in order to learn a lesson here for voting in such a clown. Then again, they also need to reform their political system. Who knows which lobby groups are actually pulling the strings.

The tariffs are the ones to watch in terms of Ireland. I am curious around when he revokes the Mexico/Canada tariffs and what he learns from that. He said they are willing to take some pain but this game of brinkmanship could be moving to the next level. Falling stock markets will create a lot of unhappy Americans.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

    My pet topic for sure.

"…. but judging by my own connections across the pond the majority of them really want this self identity madness to end, not least because it's harming the Democratic cause so much."

If your "connections" are preoccupied with a fringe issue they have already drank the Koolaid.

I'd suggest purging their socials because it is running riot on them.

You still haven't illustrated that transgender people was the deciding factor in the election. You've been claiming it for months but that's different from proving it. So if most Americans favoured preventing transgender people from entering academia or holding medical roles etc, would you support it out of interest?

    #MEGA MAKE EUROPE GREAT AGAIN

They have a broad spectrum of voters to “please”- which by definition means they will please very few. I think they tried to be all things to all interested parties which is not the way to rule.

They also developed policies that were not only disagreeable to the right but repulsive- in some respects they helped to strengthen the resolve of the republicans and bring them together.

They’re also losing the traditional migrant vote- 3rd 4th 5th generation migrant Americans don’t hold the democrats in as high esteem as their grandfathers did.

Finally, the republicans messages were “simple”- unpalatable to many yes- but simple nevertheless - and the Democrat candidate this time around just didn’t cut it for the electorate.

Hopefully Americans will tire of “change”, of threats and feeling of insecurity in four years time and will opt for a more stable low key presidency - I can’t see this pace lasting TBH and when the impact of all these decisions is felt by ordinary people, that’s when we might see a surge of support. Trump can only spin things so far before the pricy chickens come home to roost

and you still have some people trying to blame the Democrats

The Republicans are doing it, right now with every one watching but it's not their fault….it's The Democrats fault…..of course.
