When Macron was speaking in the WH last week he alluded to it being a bargaining chip for any negotiations with Russia(we give Ukraine aid and if Russia accept terms of the frozen funds being paid to Ukraine then Europe gets repaid with it).

You know the cards that the orange fu¢kwit said Zelenski didn't have, it's because the EU and UK have them. Remember when Macron corrected him last week to tell him that EU contributions were funded by income generated by frozen Russian assets and if a satisfactory agreement is not reached, the assets will be seized to cover costs.

Pretty sure the 2 billion the UK have now pledged is frozen RU assets.

It strikes me that, given trumps behaviour of late, that in the recent us/orc "peace" meetings, the orcs whispered to trump "We are the super powers in this world, let's carve it up for just us...and maybe China because they own our a$$"

...would explain a lot of things

    Old news.

It’s clear this is the way the world is trying to be shaped.

The peacekeepers will come from Ireland if Me Hole and Harris get their way, which is very likely.

Never understood the mentality of "leaders" so desperate to be at the big boys table. A country quite literally a pebble in the ocean, all sorts of issues in our own country need addressing, still partially occupied depending on a certain viewpoint, but what's that, another country in need?

Not enough personell to fill Naval patrols, Army can't fill overseas trips without near forcing people.... retention and recruiting issues....but fear not Ukraine, the Irish are on the way as soon as we get the green light....just look up, we'll be in our fighter jets Simon is getting us.

Funny how America are in NATO yet Russia don’t seem to blame America at all for their reason to invade Ukraine.

    They now praise America????

    Makes no sense at all.

One of the commentators that I was listening to over the weekend suggested that Russia has laundered vast funds through Trumps businesses and that's the hold they have on him.

When you can suck Russian wang as good as Donald it all makes sense 😎 grab that turkey jowl and Kremlin yourself

An interesting narrative developing from the right wing populist / conservative / authoritarian camp that they are pro-peace and anti-war and that anyone who supports Zelensky is a warmonger - even Orban and Le Pen made such remarks today. I've seen this angle all over social media too.

The Agent Krasnov Thought eh? No Surprise, hell it's not even very well hidden, there was a report that a house Trump sold in 2008 was sold far in excess of it's market value at a time when he was struggling with a Bankruptancy. If that doesnt spell Corruption and Quid Pro Quo what doesnt? There's no benefit of Trump supporting Russia unless they either have something on him or he's a deliberate useful idiot. Regardless Trump is practically a fúcking Vatnik himself with the way he deliberately bends over for them, I just wonder how far he'll get before some people over there outright turn on him.

They have and always have been Hypocrites and useful idiots. The whole lot of them are Regressive Vatnik Sympathising sell-outs and purely looking to enrich themselves. Noone of them are fit to wield power and are incapable of solving problems but are able to get a narrative and attention because of the way social media has become such a cancer in society in the last 10 years especially.

We've done plenty of peacekeeping. Why is this suddenly a big issue?

This stuff sounds suspiciously like it's coming from Putin and the Kremlin. The entire 'right wing populist' movement in Europe and the MAGA crowd in the US are practically indistinguishable from Russia at this point.

Until Trump says he wants to annex Canada or doesn't rule out using force against taking Greenland.

These cobbled together narratives and scripts they create usually don't have long shelf-lives.

Presumably America under the enlightened stewardship of President Krasnov is a totally different animal in their eyes

Yeah, but none of them are being attacked by Russia….yet!

I agree, the Regressive Right expecially in the last 10 years have all but become part of the same Kremlin controlled agenda. The Russian's despite their **** Military have always been good at informational warfare at least when it comes to keeping people confused. It was also a good way of keeping western goverments distracted while they pulled off their own shenanigans in the background.

At this stage if Nazi Sympathises were supporters of Hitler in the last century then the modern equivalent today would be Vatnik Sympathisers. Would probably be better off to just call Orban, Le Pen and all the rest who parrot the same búllshit as Vatnik's and Vatnik Sympathisers. I'd nearly at this stage call Trump an outright Vatnik as well as he seem intent on crippling Americas responces by creating havok and chaos at home.

Also Trumps bullshit about risking World War 3 is because HE'S the risk. He creates a power vacuum by weaking the one nation who was keeping thing stable and it's only a matter of time before things go hot. I really think that he'll cause the US to suffer massive economic and diplomatic damage if Europe has to directly engage the Vatnik Bastards in Ukraine to end hostilities because Ukraine falling cannot happen, Putin wont stop at Ukraine if he wins he'll attack the EU directly next in the Baltics. I think other's have already realised this especially with Trump weaselling back into the White House as well hence why defence spending is ramping up dramatically and others have been warning of the risk of a major war. The last time things got so unstable it caused massive geopolitical shifts that left things unrecognisable from the world that existed before.

A glimmer of hope is that the European 'Putin bots' are mostly a hardcore minority (we have them in Ireland too: Ian O'Doherty etc). They are very vocal and loud in the MSM and on social media in their support for Trump and Putin and in their attacks on Ukraine, but they are probably smaller in number than they would have you believe.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,701 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

Russia is there for the taking, or at least there for the taking on Ukrainian soil. The allies should go in, and push them out. Putin is full of it, red lines, bull, every one is broken, what's another.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,654 ✭✭✭Infini

I'd say it's in no small part thanks to the voting systems we have in Europe as well, FPTP is the main reason these kinds of loonies get overall power and thanks to PR and Ranked Choice in other places it helps curtail the idiot wings significantly as they can't get an overall mandate to wreck the place.

They should have 3 years ago, when Zelensky asked for air support to repel the invasion in the early days Europe and the USA should have obliged. Centrist parties across Europe and the US agreed it was sensible to tread carefully rather than give Ukraine what they needed to win.

They decided instead that they were more concerned about Russian retaliation on their countries so financial aid, sanctions and military equipment donations were as far as they were willing to go.

It's a bit late in the war for a change of heart from the west. They decided from an early stage they were willing to save face with Ukraine with token support but never to an extent where Ukraine would win.

Now the knife wounds in the back of Ukraine from the west are visible and lets not pretend that Europe is going to change their alliance to the US over this, this is what the US always does in proxy wars.

Surely Trump and Vance were briefed at a high level when taking the office the threat Russia, North Korea and China pose to America??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 235 ✭✭OrangeBadger

Russia is in a phenomenally weak position, Europe needs to give Ukraine the go ahead to use weapons which have a longer strike distance and don't announce it, I fcuking hate when they have to announce everything and give the Russians plenty of time to react

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 235 ✭✭OrangeBadger

They have fired pretty much everyone that would be in a position to give that advice plus think of all the monies they can get from those countries nom nom monies

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,701 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

I think there is a lack of Trust with Zelensky and Trump. Sign the mineral deal….. and mean while Putin promises Trump he's stand by deal when Russia take Ukraine , win win for Trump.

If Trump is so so certain that Russia will not go back on their word regarding continuing the war after a break to regroup, then why doesn't he give the security guarantee, when he claims it will never be needed, so why is he so reluctant to give it.. something stinks

Jesus. I finally got myself together to watch the interview. Have other people actually watched it, or are ye just happy to read "ambush" and look at photos?

Zelenskyy fuked that up so much. You can be pro-Ukraine and watch that interview and acknowledge that it was a traincrash. Minutes and minutes of arguing like he was in a pub when he is there to sign a deal.

Choosing to interject and start banging on about 2014-2015 will be seen as one of the biggest missteps in history if they don't patch this up and sign something. I have no idea what he was trying to achieve by arguing. Besting Vance wasn't going to magically result in a better deal.
