ah in fairness that was a good comeback, shame not to win it but great to see the fight is still there. We need to be more aggressive like that …

    Things improved second half !
We should really have won it
I hope the keeper rule changes to restrict them to their own half cos it’s absolutely killing us
We actually managed the time left at the end but unfortunately the kickable chance fell to Reape.
Ryan o Donoghue was outstanding second half
I really like Eoin corner back too . Tenacious.
Constantly playing a player who can’t do the basics like solo the ball properly is really annoying me though. No other serious footballing county does it.
Great leadership from Coen too with a monster score to kick start the comeback

Aido had a huge impact when we decided to use him 15 minutes after he came on
    They couldn’t handle him

I have to say it is a great venue. Atmosphere was excellent second half .

Anyone know fi the Kerry agme is live on TV? And if it is any suggestions for a pub in central London to watch it?

The Kerry game was one of the games that wasn't confirmed (from a TV point of view) at the start of the league. Don't think it has been yet either.

Would be hard to see Kerry not make the TV two weeks in a row though.

Afaik our Derry match the round after is set for TG4.

But Kerry were on live this weekend, though i think that was a last minute decision due to a postponement elsewhere

Nearly sure that I watched them on GAA Go and not TV.

Edit: not too familiar with London but the Oxford Arms in Camden is a Mayo pub and likely one of the best bets.

Tyrone v Kerry was on TG4 live, replacing a postponed hurling game.

We'll have to disagree so. I think the game has been butchered. Win the toss and play with the wind for double scores.

I would be following that graph, the more games I see, the more I'm liking the changes.

I think I'll like them even more towards the business end. I was watching Galway Donegal first half and the two pointers / wind / Galway building up a huge lead in the first half did end it early as a spectacle for me... But Salthill in a gale is an outlier.

The wind influence is being overplayed. It's that time of the year, where the weather is very temperamental - i.e. windy/rainy etc. That generally dies when we get into April onwards.

A small breeze is not going to have the same impact on a game as the tornado that was in Salthill on Sunday did.

Also, if playing with the breeze in the first half, then the opposing team will play with the breeze for the second half. It's very seldom that a wind dies down. Again, taking the example of Salthill - Galway were banging over 2 pointers in the first half. Donegal had the wind in the second half, but weren't advantageous. That was their own fault for not doing so. Nothing to do with the wind.

The new rules rewards scoring from long range, which is a very difficult skill. There are many intercounty players that would struggle to even get the distance from outside the arc - let alone get it between the posts under pressure from a defender. I think it's a great addition. It might encourage teams like Mayo to actually focus properly on being able to shoot scores at intercounty level.

Looking forward to Saturdays game now. It should be a good indicator as to where Mayo are at. Some players have returned and there should be a bit of confidence after picking up 3 points in the last 2 games. Neary still on the learning curve but himself and Clifford should be the ones to watch.

Midfield will be key imo, if you lose 3-4 kickouts in a row, Kerry could easily put 6+ points on you

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,529 ✭✭✭Westernview

Agreed. We don't have top level fielders so it will be interesting to see if we put extra bodies in around there.

That is not true. Certain times of the year are less windy than others. I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure that, on average, the winds in May, June, July etc. (when the majority of the championship is played) are not as strong as they currently may be *(excluding Pearce Stadium in Salthill).

Sounded like a good game. Shame it wasn't shown anywhere.

Decent 2 points there. Sounded like Aiden did well at MF when Kerry seemed to have us penned in on our own kickouts. Hession & ROD very good according to the radio

great atmosphere in mchale park .
, Ryan ,Mchugh, Carney, hession, O’Shea all good. Not one poor performance across the pitch. When McLaughlin came in it was perfect timing as it took 3 Kerry players out to stop his runs . First half scores were a joy and we should have been 3-4 points more up .
wind got a small bit stronger at the start of the second half and it told as Kerry were within 3 very quickly .
Most enjoyable leave game for a long time and if the last 15 minutes are anything like championship then it is going to be very fast .

    Mayo ball is back baby

Refreshing to see them run at players. Very enjoyable match for a change. Not sure I've seen a finer point in McHale Park than Ryan's one (or two).

Brilliant win, credit to players and management, hopefully this is the start of more positive football for the year ahead!

Good result yesterday. ROD was outstanding but having Aido there really gives him a bit of freedom. I thought McHugh and Hession both did very well to nullify the Influence of the Cliffords.
I saw a fair few Kerry fans moaning about the ref. Not sure what game they saw but given the different level of treatment permitted to the 2 number 13’s on the pitch I don’t see what they can be complaining about.
We’re not safe yet unless other teams do us favours so we’ll need to aim for a win against Derry.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 112 ✭✭Be-Jaysus

Good to see the attacking verve return again, and they've been rewarded with points on the board.

Results have also gone Mayo's way today, and can seal safety with a result in Derry, while Tyrone are facing a daunting trip to Donegal who will need 1 more win to seal a top 2 slot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 491 ✭✭TsuDhoNimh

A win against Derry wouldn't be quite enough to seal it on its own.

Still possible for a team to go down on 7 points. We'd need one of a Kerry loss, a Dublin loss or a Tyrone draw/loss - Dublin & Tyrone playing in R7 so they can't both get to 7 if Dublin lose in R6 - to be sure of being safe with a win before going into R7.

Great angle of ROD's two pointer at the end of the 1st half
