A thread in the CT forum was closed by a mod called Hannibal_Smith, who wrote the following:

"Link dumping to far right, sites wasn't where I thought the discussion was headed. There's a thread already in CA about Grift etc if you want to discuss it there."

It was a discussion about the mainstream media and, ironically enough, I was making the point that 99% of the media, and 99% of people in the West, or at least in modern Ireland, are left / extreme left and that there is no such thing as a centrist. Why is a such a person with very obvious bias (Grift, far right) a moderator? And why was the thread closed? Is linking to conservative news sites not allowed? Can mods just close threads willy-nilly?

    Crickets. Not surprising, unfortunately.

Is there a particular conspiracy theory you were discussing? Did you PM the moderator to ask why the thread was closed?

I don't know why the thread was in the CT forum, to be honest, but it's more the use of "far right" and "Grift" that's the problem. Shouldn't a moderator leave their bias at home? It was a discussion about trust in the mainstream media and I was making the point that I believe almost the entire media to be far left / left because there's no such thing as a "centrist" and that any so-called conservative media outlets are in reality populist as opposed to conservative. I linked to various hoaxes that John Nolte of Breitbart often lists in his articles that the mainstream media in the US have pushed. By clicking on the links readers could see what the hoax was. I thought it would have been absurd to expect a person to write a description of each individual hoax given the huge number of them. But the discussion was cut short by the moderator.

Is linking to Breitbart and Gript articles not allowed?

I closed the thread, because there was no Conspiracy Theory being discussed. In fact I'm the one who opened the thread by moving the posts from another thread, instead of deleting them - as they were dragging another thread off topic. So I moved them as there seemed to be an appetite for discussion that would suit the CT forum. It transpired there wasn't so it was closed. You mentioned gript in one of your posts and I said there's a thread already on that topic in CA. Why not continue the discussion there?

Well, to be honest, I have no idea why the thread was put in the CT forum in the first place.

How can you say there wasn't an appetite for discussion when posters were discussing the topic of the thread before you closed it? Is the only reason you closed because of the Breitbart links?

I didn't say there was no appetite for discussion. I said I thought there was an appetite for discussion that would suit the CT forum - it turned out there wasn't a discussion that would suit the CT forum. We agree on that. That's why the thread was closed. You were directed to a more appropriate thread in a more appropriate forum if you wanted to continue the discussion. Perhaps being new to the site you're not aware of the thread but it can be found here.

You say you don't know why the thread was in the CT forum, so I take it you agree it's not a suitable thread for the forum. So closing it was correct. To point out again though, I cut the posts from another thread that they were derailing to give the discussion an opportunity, rather than 'willy nilly' delete them. I gave the discussion a chance. It didn't work out in a way that suited the forum. It was closed.
