My brief reference to it, was enough for you to know what I was referring to!? I don't want to be dragged into the discussion on the validity or not of 'Gript' as a media source on this thread. I'm already under mod review for my posting style.

In the above using the excuse of not been aware of it, when he was tagged allot about it on the day prior to the broadcast. He comes across as 'not been in touch'/'competent' with his brief? I put it down to making a bad choice, so as not to have to answer informative questions on it. He could have handle it better?

You're ok with Gardai beating up whoever they chose?

What if it is you? Some Garda takes a dislike to you and decides to give you a good hiding? Or you see a Gard doing something wtong and he threatens to beat the *** out of you if you report him?

Plenty of dishonest Gardai out there who abuse their positions.... you should read some of the Tribunal reports.

Happening Now 📣 Ireland 🇮🇪 is in the UN General Assembly for the 11th Emergency Special Session on #Ukraine 🇺🇦

Minister for Justice Jim O'Callaghan will address the UN Membership shortly.

    Watch live here!

If I can find his segment clip, later, I will edit this post.

It is hard to know, what amendments they where voting on with the numbers, but believe a us one was voted against.

Could not find an extracted clip but here is the timestamped link of it!

He is a good clear speaker! I like the way he was introduced with the full tagline of his role!

    Edit:- His speech in text!

That’s absolutely ridiculous. How brain dead must someone be to try and force their way past riot cops and not expect to get battered.

    • The Justice Minister’s approach to stop and search powers for knife crime are “cynical” and “cheap”, a policing expert has said.
    • Last week, Jim O’Callaghan told the Dáil that part of the response to knife crime has to be powers for gardaí to “stop and search people so that they can seize knives from them if they suspect they are carrying knives”.
    • Gardaí already have had the power to stop and search people for the possession of knives for years, under Section 16 of the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act 1990. ~~ Source BreakingNews.ie

Is he just rehashing old laws for soundbites? And appear to be instrumental in achieving things?

He definitely should have been aware of the 1990 Act! Raises questions again over his competent for the role or not?

An ongoing dispute between frontline gardaí and the Department of Justice over planned disciplinary regulations has now ensnared new justice minister Jim O’Callaghan.

The Garda Representative Association (GRA) has formally contacted the minister about the proposed regulations, due to be enacted within the next two weeks. ~ Source

    • Members: - "without the benefit of legal advice" ~ when giving accounts!

He can't seem to catch a break in his new role without been unfairly criticised by the media!

Justice minister Jim O’Callaghan has been accused of a “dereliction of duty” for failing to deal with online misinformation and the spread of the far-right.

Gary Gannon, Social Democrats TD for Dublin Central, raised concerns about a lack of work done in the aftermath of the Dublin riots to examine those who incited the unrest. ~ Source

Wondering who here is going to attack the SD for their stance on it?

    MODS!?

Hopefully I have commented enough for this not to be considered a link dump?
Sorry if not will try harder in future to expand my comments more!

That survey is still available, but as usual loaded questions. They want you to pick the most important from the list of things they think are most important. Only 1 option after the first question to add your own.

He only got an 8 month suspended sentence and leave Ireland for 10 years

At least Jim is offering an apology but reform in the justice system is needed

Minister for Justice Jim O'Callaghan will deliver a public apology to the family of hit-and-run victim Shane O’Farrell in the Dáil next week.

The apology follows years of campaigning by the family of the 23-year-old who was killed while out cycling near his home in Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan, on 2 August 2011.

The driver of the car, Zigimantas Gridziuska, should have been in custody at the time of the killing.
