Sure of course they will, and will be in full ass-kissing mode as well.

I hope there is an Ukranian type Garvilo Princip waiting for a pop at Trump

Zelensky and his entourage have left the White House just now.

Trump is so far up Putins backside it is unreal. I actually think no western leader should be agreeing to visit Trump under the guise of this nonsense.

But our people are there to represent our country, which is Ireland, not to use their diplomatic clout on Zelensky's behalf.

    Diplomacy - Jerry Springer style.

Why would Zelensky sign when Trump and Vance want him to cut his wrist and sign it with his own blood and that of all Ukraine? A sort of punishment for daring to stand up to Russia?

Zelensky has had the weight of the world on his shoulders for the last number of years. Being a leader whilst your people are fighting for their country and their lives. Sending soldiers to the frontline knowing many are going to die. To have Trump and Vance lecture him about being disrespectul when he raised the issue of security guarantees in relation to a ceasefire. I can understand why Zelensky was shaking his head when listening to the lies from Trump and Vance. It mightn't have been the most diplomatic thing to do but when he was listening to the garbage coming from his so called allies, it was perfectly understandable.

That would only make things worse, make Trump a martyr, and land Vance in power.

Hopefully there will be some sort of major pushback from within the Republican party itself, because whatever your political alliegance, there's a limit, particularly when it's actually causing major reputational damage to your country and its long-standing strategic and political alliances.

He already got very public pushback when he called Zelensky a dictator and claimed he started the war, and this is a whole other unhinged step beyond that.

He should bring the Klitschko brothers with him next time Trump decides to lay his hands on him 'strong manning'.

I think he should still go so that if Trump disrespects him we will have confirmation for all those still holding a torch that the old relationship is gone. The whole shamrock in the Whitehouse is actually only a recent tradition from the 90s when there was still a lot of generational links, but we stopped going to the US in large numbers in the 90s.

Agree. He's trying to look authoritative to his Maga base and earn some brownie points when in fact like all bullies he's really a coward.

Not sure I've ever wished personal ill on a politician before, but this is just beyond the pale.

maybe VZ should have dressed up in black and with a cap. That type of dress code seems to be ok in the Oval Office and at cabinet meetings!!!!!!!!

Zelensky made a big mistake not smiling and keeping face in front of the cameras regardless of how badly it was going on in the background. His PR power (which Ukraine has been very dependent on) is now in tatters!

He should have put on a suit...

The fuckers set him up, tried to humiliate him.

I am wondering why though, their own hubris and idiocy, or something more sinister? It looked like they were going to get their deal, why scupper it now?

That was disgusting. I can't imagine what it must be like to continually have to beg for arms and supplies and money all the time for years on end and then get talked down to one of the most morally bankrupt people in the world and his pathetic little sidekick who's too stupid to see he's being used.

I've never seen the US debase itself this way before. It would have cost nothing to smile and wave and stick out an anodyne press release but Trump just can't resist pandering to vatniks, maga and other cultural trash. What a disgrace. Neville Chamberlain gets a hard rap because he thought he could preserve peace and spare a generation of young men what their fathers endured. Trump couldn't care less.

Given the way he conducted the meeting, I expect Trump to order Defence Sec Hegseth and the Sec State to cancel all movement of weapons and munitions [including from European forward positions] to Ukraine immediately. The timing of the emails will show how pre-planned his Oval Office abuse of Zelenskyy was.

He should have put on a suit…

And what else, brought them flowers and bent over so they literally f**k him? Zelensky as he has done for the last 3 years looked 10 times the President than Trump has ever looked.

    He didn't.

He left without it being signed.

How could he do anything else.

Zelenskyy: “Have you been to Ukraine?”

Vance: “No, but I have seen stories”

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,107 ✭✭✭MrMusician18

Why? That pair had decided to ambush him regardless of what he was wearing.

Ball is now in Europe's court. Surely that's the end of US support for UA

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,781 ✭✭✭threeball

I called this back in November. Zelensky was in a no win once Trump won. He should have stepped down, as Trump had a vendetta and they could have stuck a star like Klitsckho in there who would Trump would fawn over.

The man is burnt out and he has too much pressure from all sides.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 933 ✭✭✭Dr Robert

You can't polish a turd springs to mind with Trump and Vance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,332 ✭✭✭phonypony

Absolutely not. You're basically saying he should have bowed down to a narcissistic bully and his pathetic gang. He has shown far more humility and courage than Trump here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,042 ✭✭✭✭Tell me how

Most significant moment of the interview for me was when Trump was screaming about the Russian Hoax and Hunter Biden and he said that Putin didn't respect Obama, or Biden, or Bush but he respected him (Trump). Zelensky raised his eyebrow as if to say he has an idea why that is the case.

Incredible stuff. The most shameful moment every captured in the Oval office. Trump and Vance are an abomination. Hopefully Europe gets its act together in a serious way and fills some of the political void on the planet that Trump has created in just 6 weeks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,107 ✭✭✭MrMusician18

I don't often agree with you but I can't argue with any of that. A new low is daily these days but it's beyond that today.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 29,598 Mod ✭✭✭✭Podge_irl

Except that would be unconstitutional and Ukraine actually cares about these things unlike the US these days.

VZ shaking his head is understandable. He may have been thinking..

"The fools, the fools, they mock our sacrafice and patriotic dead. The USA under the leadership of these two bullies, is no longer the land of the free and brave"
