    hi all

I just ordered Sky Q, getting Netflix included and multiscreen in one room.

Is the multiscreen via WiFi from main box or cable from satellite?

Will probably use sky go app on smart tv anyway.

Any advice for when engineer comes.

There is Vodafone here but I put down having none because that wasn’t my account and didn’t have access to UANs etc

Also we have a satellite we use with a Manhattan box will that now power the sky or will they put up a new one and will we still have our satellite if we cancel in a year?

    Thanks in advance

I don't have SkyQ myself but I believe the multiroom boxes connect to the main box via WiFi, no connection to the dish like old days.

Is the existing satellite dish a Sky dish?

If so, they will have to change the LNB to a wideband type with two cables to the SkyQ box.

If it's an old Sky dish or a non-sky dish they may install a new one.

If you want to keep the Manhattan box active the SkyQ LNB isn't compatible. A hybrid LNB will be required.

The hybrid LNB combines both wideband and standard universal outputs for both receiver types.

The satellite installer on the day may have a hybrid LNB in his van.

    So a word of warning,

There is no Sky Go app for any smart TV platform other than the Apple TV set top box. You might be able to use certain games consoles or plug a laptop with HDMI cable.

The Sky Go app doesn’t support Chromecast or AirPlay (yes, in 2025).

The Apple TV app is missing certain features - it works in “out of home” mode whether you are at home or not with the out of home lineup only and no access to recordings.

In other words - forget about using it as a substitute for Sky Q mini.

Sky Q mini boxes do connect to the main box via WiFi yes - iirc a wired connection is also possible if that’s your thing but is not the way they are normally set up.

Yes the dish is yours to keep. They will probably (but not necessarily) replace the existing dish - you might be able to talk to the installer about that. They will change the LNB as the poster above says and you will need to talk nicely to them to get a hybrid LNB if they happen to have one. Otherwise they will fit a wideband LNB which only works with Sky Q and Freesat 4K and you will need to replace this at your own expense to use any other receiver such as your Manhattan box.

My thoughts are as sat dish and other box are still in use , fit a separate dish and cabling if they use a sat dish.

Just to add something on the minis. A by the book install connects the main box to the mini over it's own mesh on the 5ghz band.

Even if you have a strong WiFi signal throughout the house, the connection between the main and mini is key. A wired connection can help but there are some knacks to setting up and not necessarily as straightforward as just popping cables in both.

thanks all, that’s a lot to take in, I appreciate it.

The satellite dish is not a sky one as far as I know; it’s there decades.

Happy with Sky Q mini over WiFi to be honest, thought it would have to come through walls from roof.

I’m thinking the best would be to get a second satellite up so we can keep the Manhattan in case we don’t extend Sky.

Have Apple TV so that’s handy for Sky go, I know you have to have multi room so will try it for a month and see is it worth it. Mostly terrestrial in one room and mostly streaming in another room so might make no difference.

Trying to work out do I need nowtv sub anymore if I have sky?

    Are the installers sound generally?

Whether you want to keep Now will be depending on what packs you are taking from Sky - at any rate you will not want the Entertainment pass but you may find taking sports or movies from Now cheaper than taking them from Sky.
