I thought today would be a complete write off with rain but it improved considerably before lunch and I got a few outdoor jobs done. Windy with some nasty showers. Yesterday was lovely.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

This is the heaviest shower of rain I’ve ever seen in my life.
    Amazing stuff.
    South Dublin.

After a manky morning we have sunshine since around 1pm.

13⁰ Meath and in a stream with afternoon showers avoiding us for now.

Thankfully the electricity has been restored already. Some heavy showers about this afternoon, but at least the wind has decreased, which means I can go for a walk between the showers

horrible blustery afternoon with heavy showers. This morning was a complete washout. Yesterday was a decent day for February probably better because of how bad it’s been. Still a good 2 months of winter potentially to go. Longer evenings the only change usually.

Beautiful clear starry night tonight which is weird considering it's so windy out.

    Orion dominating the southern sky.

Utter muck yesterday and last night. Some amount of rain fell. Wind howling on and off all day. Bands of rain and wind. Lull this morning. 5C.

Cracking morning here. Blue skies. I am really noticing the brighter mornings and evenings now.

February 2025 has turned into a very wet month for the south of Ireland. Cork Airport is on its 7th wettest February on record since 1963. Cork has had 4 of its top 10 wettest Februaries in the past 12 years (2014, 2020, 2021, 2025).

Heavy showers pushing in from the West. A recent lightning strike in the SW. M.E mention the possibility of scattered thunderstorms, hail and spot flooding.

Beautiful first half of the day here in Meath. Shower clouds gathering.

More fence repairs after the storm

It was very sunny and mild up to about 20 minutes ago, a lovely morning but the afternoon isn't looking so lovely with plenty of heavy showers on the way.

Vicious shower just passed through here in East Cork, hailstones / very heavy rain.

Very wet afternoon here in Meath, torrential downpour of rain and hail.

Noticeable that the general light level when it's sunny is much brighter now as well, in the depths of winter even on sunny days it's still fairly dull but with the sun higher in the sky now it's definitely feeling more like spring during the clear spells.

Noticed some leaf buds and the first cherry blossoms starting to emerge today as well so hopefully we've seen the back of the winter

Any guidance on weather for this weekend coming? Have a family event over two days

Another lovely morning. I wasn't expecting so much sunshine this week. It has turned colder.

savage showers this morning. Yesterday morning and this morning were nicer than the “gorgeous” day on Saturday. Thursday and Saturday nights were worse than most of the named storms this winter.

Band of heavy showers moving in from the west . Few sparks?

The past two days in the East have been nice. Some late afternoon showers but lots of hours of sun. Last Saturday was lovely too. Light and sunshine really helps lift the mood - even if it is still cool at this time of year.

Pissing in Cork now. For me it's been the worst winter for rain in the last 5 years as this winter more so than any of the previous, I have had to skip the nightly walk. Often I go out in the rain anyway but these heavy outbursts are a bit much for me, no enjoyment in being soaked to the bone.

    To confirm this…

Dublin Apt has seen 33 hours of sun in the past week (19th-25th February). Very sunny for a February week and a swift recovery though the monthly total still remains decently below average at 55 hrs to the 25th. The 1991-2020 average is 81 hrs. It won't make it to that but it did a nice job at recovering from the low point it was at only 8 days ago.

Another very mild February in the books though not as mild as some recent ones.

I also got a few days of overdue rainbow conditions. Image below is from Sandymount Strand of one on Monday afternoon.

Bitterly cold in that strong wind. Trying desperately to put some order on the gardens but it's a struggle. Between the weather and wet sodden land it's difficult

Looks like more showers today after a relatively sunny morning. Winter is just about over and we have yet another milder than average winter in the bag with a very mild December combined with a fairly mild overall February and mild second half to January. Model watching went off the rails early February with the mid February easterly and the SSW ending up a complete and utter bust. Moving on to Spring I will open the Spring chart discussion threads tomorrow.
