if Trump we’re an FSB agent what would he be doing right now. Trying to squeeze the Ukrainians into an unjust settlement that validates an insane narrative that they were / are the aggressors in this conflict.

His businesses were bailed out by Russian money in the 90s. Wholesale Russian pro Trump meddling in the 2016 election. Now dismantling the very agencies that could hold him to account. Completely insane setup before you even consider him giving Musk the cookie jar.

From Ken Dilanian.NBC and The Independent: Reported pushback from the FBI Director.

    image.png

Similarly, at the State Department, Ambassador Tibor Nagy, currently performing the duties of the Under Secretary for Management, emailed colleagues to say that no one is obligated to report their activities outside of their Department chain of command.

“The State Department will respond on behalf of the Department,” Nagy wrote.

The "Thank you" on Patel's Email to his staff is a nice touch, same as that on Trumps messages to others.

You just know they've outed a few undercover operatives and/or sensitive operations by sending them "you're a federal employee" email.

Yep, it’s clear he’s working for Russia now

is there anything in the constitution that will allow that ? Just because there is no PRECIDENT in the US does not mean that it can NEVER happen.

Surely if the president is certified insane, is producing and selling fentanyl, found by the Supreme Court raping all around the place, committing major fraud, found by the Supreme Court to have directly murdered 10 people for no reason, etc, etc, etc that somebody has to act if he did not resign?

The lunacy continues, I'm expecting this is more a sign that we're gonna see nonsensical attacks on vaccines. This will result in deaths naturally.

My impression is there's a sophisticated commentator buried somewhere in Maher but he's massively dumbed down his schtick to achieve mainstream success. Maybe the face evolves to fit the mask with guys like that…

So, given we are seeing Trump ruling by decree (Executive orders) and destroying US from within to delight of Russia; what genuine positives do his supporters on here believe he is delivering for all US citizens?

Something something owning the libs, something something draining the swamp.

Who cares ? Genuinely. How Americans manage their health service or who they elect is about as relevant to me as the local Football leagues in Mongolia. The anti Trump energy displayed by 100s of unaffected here in Ireland could be put to much more effective use.

"He's triggering libs. That's good enough for me."

(drives off in ridiculously large pickup belching black smoke out the exhaust)

I don't much care about their health service or who runs the US. If an intelligent and competent Republican were in charge, I would be fine with that, or Democrat, or Independant, it doesn't matter. But if you cannot see the wider implications for the rest of the world of this current fiasco then you really should do a bit more research before you comment.

There is a slight chance that Kraznov and M-Rat are up to something far worse than just firing people and betraying Ukraine and all of the US's allies. Tin foil hat stuff, but I hope there is someone in the US security services entertaining the idea.

The turning of the US into a dictatorship; one of the biggest influencers and shapers of the modern geopolitical and global economy, has no impact outside of the US? No impact of the peace and prosperity enjoyed by the West for countless decades? Who cares? 😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,046 ✭✭✭✭briany

Not only is the great power of the West turning into a dictatorship before our eyes, but those helping it along, like Musk, are set on exporting the revolution. The plan doesn't stop at the USA. There is also concerted interest that the EU doesn't end up as a bulwark of liberal democracy, more united than before and more of a world power. For them, that can't happen. They'll do a lot to help reactionary right-wing movements throughout Europe to this end. We're only lucky in Ireland that a truly charismatic figure has not emerged on this end of the political spectrum, yet.

To be honest, this is another opportunity for Europe. Medical R&D cannot continue in the US under the current regime. Europe should be doing everything in its power to attract the people and programmes here.

You have to asssume the worst (or even the vaguely likely)

To have an unaccountable head of a social media company breaking into the data centres of the government(looking for dirt is my supposition) is like something out of 1984.

Assume the worst .They have no credibility that it might be benign .Even if ,weirdly it was then who is vetting all the minions involved in this information hoovering?

They might even be dangerous European spies .

For all the ‘American First’ talk, they are doing a lot of poking around in everyone else’s business.

On the face of it, we know that:

    • tariffs will drive inflation with a lead in time of 6months
    • Firing 1000s of federal and state workers will drive up unemployments figures
    • Reducing federal support for vaccines, mental health, sex ed. etc, will increase the likely of substance abuse, reduce life expectancy and general quality of life.

If left unchecked , in 12months the US could face a severe recession

Recession for the US was nailed on as soon as Trump got elected. The problem is the old adage, that when America sneezes everyone else catches a cold.

We're unlikely to avoid a recession as a result but it's hard to see the US bouncing back like before. To be honest they don't deserve to. It's a country that needs a major attitude reset. Their arrogance and selfishness knows no bounds.

Its fairly funny in fairness. People complain that Trump voters are all poor and disenfranchised and he has manipulated them. All he is interested in is further enriching the 1%. But the truth is he is so incompetent , he will damage both the 1% and the working class. He is only a month in and he is causing a new uptick in inflation and loss of confidence in both equity and bond markets. He can even win when he's cheating.

My worst belongs in the conspiracy theory thread and involves all this being a lead up to an undetected nuking of the US. Musk has even paid a visit to the National Reconnaissance Office computer systems - something that just absolutely should not have happened. I guess he's still working on building a pattern so all this stuff seems like an acceptable routine so no one balks when he asks for access to NORAD and NSA computer systems.

I am not suggesting this actually is what is happening, it's tin foil hat stuff. Would make a ripping plot for a 007 movie.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,209 ✭✭✭amandstu

Let us hope that CIA is keeping a close eye on Musk and minions.

Do you think that the kompromat Putin may have on Trump could just be an unguarded few remarks he made in Moscow which would be dynamite to an American audience?

Something even more shocking and transparent (treacherous ) than anything else he has said since...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,052 ✭✭✭✭cnocbui

The CIA is supposed to only look at external threats, I believe Homeland Security and FBI deal with internal ones.

The CIA might be a bit distracted at the moment:

C.I.A. Plans Largest Mass Firing in Nearly 50 Years

I think Trumps actions are better explained by large sums of money propping him up almost his whole life. He likely wouldn't even know what he's currently doing as I'd guess his IQ to be about 80, maybe a bit lower - he genuinely is really, really thick.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,355 ✭✭✭Field east

So the fact that Trump did not join the US army because of an alleged spur on his heel ; said that any soldier captured a LOOSER , his specific negative comments on John McCain , skipping the visit to some of the cemeteries of American D Day soldiers because of the high winds ‘upsetting’ his hair, etc, etc, etc.,

Has no effect of the typical US soldiers attitude to him!!!!!!!!

Is the bar that low now that writing “thank you” at the end of an email is a ‘nice touch’ 🤯

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,544 ✭✭✭techdiver

I know. Scarcely believable, but Republicans have always had the majority of support from law enforcement and the military as they have fallen for the line that the Republicans "back the blue" etc. Republicans even before Trump treated those groups like **** but still enjoy their support. It's a whole area of human psychology in itself.

This pattern extends across America. I ever seen a "free" country vote against their self interests at the same level as America.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,380 ✭✭✭✭Strazdas

I'm sure every time the military has moved in and removed a leader over the last 100 years, it was illegal under that country's constitution. Arguably though, much of what Trump and Musk are doing at the moment is also illegal, so perhaps all bets might be off at some point in future.

There has so much lies and disinformation pumped out by Trump and his minions that literally anything becomes possible. The whole MAGA thing has more than a touch of a feverish religious cult about it (ditto with the right wing populist parties in Europe).
