Pope Francis has died (updated 21st April 2025)

Yep, I could see them going to a greater extreme with the next pope. I do find it fascinating how the perception of popes has drastically changed(in Ireland). Eg I remember JPII dying and it was like a nation in mourning among some generations.. As time went on, his reputation rightfully declined.

Meanwhile Benedict died but it really didn't register here IMHO and can see it being similar for Francis. We're a very different country for the better imho.

As popes go its usually baby steps at best for the walking, I think he did that for the most part.

Already bigger than Jesus

He still belongs to the "ground personnel" and his boss will want him to stay on the ground for longer…… If I can allow myself that kind of humor.

Pity Francis won't get to enjoy any retirement himself.

one thing I see with the Pope is that when he took the gig back in whatever year. He was a relatively averagely built man.

Seeing him now he appears to have become pretty obese in fact and quite quickly.

That and his age is not going to do him any favours fighting off what is evidently a pretty serious respiratory health issue.

My point is more that I can't see anything similar to the levels of national grieving that occurred when JPII died. And honestly comes across as a much better individual overall.

prayers come in many different forms. Pray that he is comfortable and at peace is not the same as praying for his survival when it may naturally be the end.

Thats the retention effect of corticosteroids. Anyone with COPD or other breathing problems in advanced age will be prescribed them.
