    Oh right.

But the percentages of getting ice days are far lower than in December and January after 21 February.

For me the sun is too strong and the days are too long, it doesn't feel like real winter. The BFTE 2018 was a very unique event where everything aligned. You don't need that for serious snow and cold in the heart of winter. For example early January 2025.

Great stretch in the evening to aid storm repairs .

An ivy clad hawthorn (or whitethorn)? Hard work trying to get at the main trunk to cut a few logs. I have 2 to cut up myself. The hawthorn on the right looks clear of ivy.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Ye, the ivy is a devil. That's actually an elder tree that came up from the roots. The hawthorn beside has a bit of damage too. I cut as much of the smaller stuff as I can with handsaw before tackling it with the chainsaw. 'Ear to the Ground ' is out your way on next week's programme, Cluedo. All about storm Eowyn's effects on forestry.

Squally rain led to a decent mild afternoon with some sunshine.

Gotcha. I should have known it wasn't hawthorn which has a much redder wood colour. I have fallen elder too but I was told it's too wet to burn as firewood no matter how long you season.

I'll deffo watch Ear to the Ground.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Surprised there is not much chat on here regarding tomorrow morning. Looks particularly nasty along the south east coast.

Yes, alot of people may be caught out by this early morning as there will be heavy driving rain with the strong winds.

My area is showing 90kmph gusts with the rain on Met Éireann. That's not nice anytime, nevermind first thing in the morning for the commute.

Would not be surprised if some trees came down from this in the south east.

That is one miserable night out there in South Wicklow. Just been woken by the wind and rain it sounds absolutely rotten. Looks to be a brief clearance coming behind this heavy band then more rain on the way behind it. At least the afternoon looks like it will be brighter and a brief reprieve tomorrow.

Awful morning in Dublin....christ these last few weeks have not been good here

Yeah, very windy and pouring rain for last 3 hours. Miserable.

as I was asked yesterday “what were you expecting”……🤨

Another abysmal morning. Rain is heavier than any of the named storms and whilst I haven’t a clue about the wind speeds all I can say is it sounds very windy out there.

Chin up everyone, it should improve dramatically this afternoon for a day or two

Just one day….Sunday is looking pretty crap as well

Close to 2 inches of rain predicted for my area on Sunday plus another inch Wednesday. Weather is badly broken now and probably no fixing until March at least.

After this abysmal winter we deserve a good summer: decent temperatures and a dryer overall pattern with more in the way of sunshine. My thoughts for cold and snow are well and truly over and put on hold until next December.

There hasn't been a single decent season since summer 2022 in my opinion though autumn 2024 wasn't bad as far as autumns go, just very bland. Sure there's been very occasional great or nice months such as June 2023 but on the whole, seasons have been subpar to terrible.

Yes another poor winter here at least in Meath anyway. Poor December the usual mild rubbish. The end of Dec was interesting model watching ill give it that regarding the Jan cold spell.

As regards the Jan cold spell itself I liked the few bright frosty days, that was about it. A lack of snow here so it felt like a failure. I got not even a dusting ,more like a very light sugar coating lol . My views on this winter and that cold spell would probably be a bit different if I lived in the locations that got plenty of snow in that spell because all I want from any winter is at least one good cold snowy spell.

Then there was the usual second half of January lack of proper cold. One thing I will say about Jan is that I recorded 11 Air frosts which wasn't bad. February has been rubbish. I used to quite like Feb up until a number of yrs ago but it has become just as bland as December these days. Roll on April cos March is a month I've never liked all that much.....

After having around 30mm of rain in the first 19 Days of February in Sligo there's been 54mm in the past 2 with nearly 40mm yesterday alone and 15mm of that coming during a thunderstorm at 8pm.

So what had looked like a dry February will now end as one with well over 100mm.

    Currently 84.9mm

Funny coz when I look at yesterday's weather on Met Eireann I see Markree caught the edge of some of that heavy rain but nowhere else in Ireland got near 40mm. However I was questioning my rain gauge until I went outside and it was ankle deep in floodwater

a horrible wet morning here in Meath and looks like more heavy rain on the way for the afternoon. At least it's mild and not the icy rain we've experienced in January and early February.

Awful afternoon in Dublin, was hoping I'd get a quick walk in on my lunch break before the latest rain arrived but no such luck.

I generally haven't found this winter too bad up to recently, we had a nice enough autumn so it was late starting and then the bright sunny weather in Jan helped, but February has been absolutely grim (other than 1 or 2 sunny days early on). Really craving just being able to sit outside in the sun again

Torrential rain now again in Greystones. Rain rate of 82.2mm/hour.

    Edit: And….sun's out now.

Blue skies and warmth in Dublin 3 now, beautiful

The front cleared alright to lovely bright skies. However it's very dodgy looking again with black skies overhead. Must be a few surprise bursts around eek

Today was a mad day, woke this morning and it was horrendous, pitch dark and driving wind and rain. It lasted well into the early afternoon but then it cleared and it was a lovely bright evening.
