first sight of this yoke in over a week

    Hello

    10c in Arklow

    4.4mm rain

Glorious in Dublin. Wind from the right direction and it's light. Combined with the last 10 days being so dull it makes it feel like more than just spring. Taking it in before the churning Atlantic sends in its soldiers in the coming days.

After earlier rain/showers, a clear/sunny afternoon in Greystones. 14.3c atm. After recent weeks, feels balmy! Can't remember the last +10c day!

Wet and windy morning in Greystones. Gusting 40 knots. 37.2mm since midnight (may be some over read due to exposure?). 11.1c atm.

The same here in Portlaoise, and hasn't let up yet .

Cloudy with light rain in Limk. City presently. 11.4c, 12.6mm of rain since m/n.

Windy night in Cork harbour, lots of gusts but certainly not any sustained force in them.

Looks like a wicked squall line is moving west to east over the midlands in the coming hours, could cause some serious flash flooding.

just 14..8mm in my Arklow station which mirrors Arklow ACS since midnight

Last 6 hours of rain on the UKMET app looks the same here as Greystones

High winds depending on direction can limit what water gets into the bucket (gusting near 80kmh here)

If the bucket rocks too much the spoons will tip leading to an over read

    I’ve had both problems

It’s easier to fix the 2nd one than the under read

    11.6c Vile still here

Due to southery wind, and exposure to same, there is some rocking going on.

Nearby WOW station (in Greystones) reporting 29mm so far (and 28mm so far at station in Ashford).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,883 ✭✭✭pureza

Ashford ACS as of 11am was at 22mm

A wow station to your north in Bray is at 16mm but it could be not very scientificly located, who knows there’s so many

The ACS stations are at least serviced and site chosen by a team in Glasnevin so their veracity is better

No matter what though in my opinion high winds race rain over the bucket and if it’s on the same pole as the wind vein without stays, shaking will tip the tray

I used have the latter problem but fixed it with a new lattice mast bedded in concrete

I had to do that because it’s located in an open field

The main mechanism is bolted to the lattice

Bray is in the lee/sheltered side of Bray head so would expect Bray area to possibly be less wet. WOW station in Greystones showing 32mm now, and, WOW station at Ballinahich Wood (just west of Ashford) showing 30mm.

Anyway!!! It has and is very wet!

Exposed to strong southerly wind again!

A section of neighbours roof (flying/falling) took out some of the guys to the pole station is sitting on during Strom Darragh. Lucky not to loose the station! Have only had a chance to temporarily fix (with rope). Need to do more permanent fix when weather improves.

Dublin seems worse than storm eowyn yet not even a status yellow?!

it’s a Sunday so guess no opportunity for civil service grift …

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,883 ✭✭✭pureza

I’d get a 6 foot square timber stake from a hard ware store bed that in a a bucket of concrete (less than half a bag of cement) and cover the cement when settled

Then put the main mechanism bolted onto that including the rain bucket

It should never stir and is the regulation 4ft off the ground

No need for stays then except for your wind pole

Afaik pad has his seperate, with the wind vain actually on the chimney of his house
