Picked my baby up today after getting the insurance thing sorted this morning. Delighted with it so far - great visibility and the light coloured interior just brightens everything up a bit (especially when Dublin hasn't seen the sun for 9 days apparently!). The ride is definitely firmer than my Soul - went over a pothole and felt it! But I'm sure I'll get used to that. Loving i-pedal, one pedal driving was the one big thing I missed from the Soul. Plugged my wireless dongle in (thanks to the earlier poster for that recommendation from Aliexpress) and it worked first time.

Re the V2L, the sales guy was adamant that it didn't have it - I told him that someone had seen it demonstrated and he said well lets give it a go. He got a Hyundai V2L adapter and plugged it into my car and no joy. It didn't power a phone charger and nothing popped up on the screen inside the car. So that is odd. Has anyone who actually has the car managed to get it working? Maybe post a video if you have?

Sorry for the dumb suggestion, but did you press the button on the adapter? It won't power on otherwise.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,376 ✭✭✭Phibsboro

Yes I specifically did that as it was mentioned earlier. Note that the light didn't come on at all on the adapter (before and after pressing the button).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,048 ✭✭✭xboxdad

That's conclusive then - unless the adapter is broken ;)

As Tomek7 said on the 15th V2L works on his Elegance.

Yours has a light interior which I think is exclusive to the Launch Edition (?).

So, maybe Elegance has V2L, Launch Edition doesn't?

…I'll try my adapter on the Signature when it arrives.

Re it being broken, he actually went over to an ionic and it did register on that (popped up on screen saying the V2L conditions weren't met, but I assume that is down whatever settings the Ionic had).

The Launch edition is billed as an Elegance so I'd be very surprised if there was a difference between it and the non Launch Elegances. My gut feel is that it will work, it just needs some magic sequence of events.

V2L conditions not met shows up on the car screen on the Ioniq 5 until you press the button on the top of the adapter.

After a bit of cajoling the sales reps here I tried v2l on a launch edition with an adapter, and it didn't do anything. No light on the adapter. I tried turning on utility mode, with the car turned on, but it didn't help. Interestingly the utility mode option disappeared from the menu when the V2l adapter was attached.

A bit disappointed indeed. Would really like to find out, perhaps, where people were able to have it demonstrated to them. I'd love to chat to that dealer (one with a little more optimism perhaps!) about this "software update" that was mentioned! I wonder if it just needs to be added to the menu or something... Utility mode disappearing when the V2l adapter is connected suggests it is aware something is connected...

Most interesting didn't know that, thanks for that, wouldn't work at my place as its a Not Spot,no mobile signal ever?

I note the Inster inverter,V2L as we like to say in the jargonese,is 3.6 kW. That's pretty decent, I assume it must get the around 10 amps from the traction battery?

Consensus seems to be that V2L does not work on Insters’s supplied to Ireland based on some recent showroom tests. It’s unfortunate at it would be a nice feature particularly for rural dwellers that get power outages.

It doesn't need a mobile signal, car and phone communicate via bluetooth.

    Update:

We originally needed the car before March (original estimation was delivery in Jan/Feb), but Hyundai Ireland has been unable to provide a clear timeline for the Elegance Dusk Blue Matte model. According to them, no vehicle in this configuration has even left the factory. Dealers can't do anything about it but only provide information that Hyundai Ireland gives them.

Given these uncertainties, we've decided to cancel our order. That said, we still have high hopes for the Inster and may revisit it in the future.

Interestingly, apart from the Launch Edition (which is essentially the Elegance trim), none of the Elegance models have been shipped (that's my observation, but I will be happy to be corrected). My local dealer estimated an April–May delivery for our spec, but even that was far from a guaranteed ETA.

Hopefully, the situation improves, and we start seeing Insters arriving in Ireland in larger numbers. We’ll definitely keep an eye on it for the future.

    Hope this helps—cheers!

P.S. Attaching Hyundai Ireland's response below.

Has anyone managed to get the Bluelink working consistently? In particular I am having issues getting the climate control to turn on. The other functions (e.g. turn on the hazards) will work consistently but climate control will say it has succeeded but will not be turned on in the car.

Haven't used the climate control much but any time I have it's been fine. Car heats up very quickly anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,376 ✭✭✭Phibsboro

Bluelink is an app that allows you to control functions of the car remotely. So you can turn on the climate control from your house before you go out to the car. All of the functions (lock/unlock, hazard lights) are working except the climate control. The climate control itself works fine once I'm in the car.

Sorry meant to say I haven't used the climate control via the Bluelink app much as the car heats up very quickly anyway. Anytime I have used it via Bluelink it seemed to work fine.

Did wonder about that thanks, good to know, but any App to car would.?

Voice over WiFi is my way round it thanks.

I do wonder about it,and I have had the ability to supply 230 AC in my EV for the last 12 years,by plugging an inverter into the 12v battery cigar socket.

Think the inverter came from the then Maplin shops supplying and cost around €20.

Long way from the 3.6kw supply in the Inster. But would allow small AC current to be drawn I ran a small fridge in summer from it.

I don't know how car manufacturing works but my Inster was in the dock in cork on the 20th of January and collected 14th of February but when I open the engine bay on the electric motor there is a manufacturing date 15/01/2024??? How does that work

Mine has been working for a week now flawlessly.

Sorry to hear your colour was not shipped. My Black Elegance arrived last week, so there are some in the country. Really loving how good this is to drive. Happy motoring everyone and do look back into this car when they have more stock in showrooms.

Called my dealer about the 15/03 shipment. He said he had a conversation with Hyundai and there are still no VINs/no shipping updates for any color.

Your VIN details your manufacturing month, the motor is just another part like a tyre

I'm done filming Inster cars. Swear.

Shaming the Enyaq owner, love it.

Is there not five regen settings? 1, 2, 3, iPedal and Auto? On the Ioniq 5 you hold the right paddle for 3 seconds and it turns on, it's very like D mode on a VW.

I get the impression that you really like the Inster.

Don't seem to be able to switch insurance to the Inster with Aviva online, the reg is showing up but it says it can't give a quote. Did people with Aviva have to call them to switch it?

Planning to pick mine up on Saturday! Elegance 49kWh Launch Edition.

I had a tough time with a just launched car switching over....its a Tavascan and thet had to consult underwriters who came back and said they would insure it in same terms as an ID4, which it pretty much is. I don't know what they'd do with an inster in the same case. Although judging by here there's going to be loads on the road soon.

My renewal is up end of Feb so only a few days away and I'm struggling to find insurers to get best quote available.....but renewal wasn't too bad so I might just go with it.

Must check that out in the morning. Yeah I’m really impressed, one of my favourite cars I’ve ever had on test was a €29,000 Fiesta ST so you really don’t need to be always in flash stuff to be blown away by a simple yet clever and fun car and the Inster is the same.

I actually watched a video talking about the difference between i-pedal (all the way on the left paddle) and Auto (all the way on the right paddle) and couldn't really follow it, so I decided to give Auto a go on a trip today. The journey was Dublin to Wicklow in two separate trips, the first city and the second mixed city and motorway. I used Auto for city and Adaptive Cruise Control for motorway. Have to say I loved Auto - I think it may be the mode I've been looking for. It is basically a smart regen that only kicks in when you need it. So it uses the same forward sensors as ACC to recognise a car in front of you and will apply increasing regen to the point of stopping behind the car if you are in traffic. So it is like i-pedal in that it comes to a complete stop in that scenario, but also lets you coast if you ease off the accelerator with no car in front of you (instead of immediate applying a heavy regen brake like i-pedal). This feels great! It is almost like ACC for city driving - you still have to use the accelerator but you will use the brake much less than normal and you don't get the kind of jerky driving of i-pedal. It also apparently gives slightly better efficiency, though I think of that data is coming from AWD cars where i-pedal keeps the forward engine engaged permanently.

Speaking of efficiency, I'm sitting in my hotel room in Wicklow and decided to see does Bluelink have any efficiency data for today, and it does! It doesn't have the individual trip efficiency that you can get in-car, but it does show the overall efficiency for the day. So today I did those two trips as follows:

    Trip Resized.jpg

So 76 km in total. I had the heating on at 23 degrees, it was approx 12 degrees outside and I had my phone on change. This gave an energy consumption for the day as follows:

    Energy Resized.jpg

    You can see the figures add up - 76km @ 14 kWh/100Km = 10.67 kWh.

So I have to say I'm delighted with that! In the Soul I'd be delighted to get 14 on purely local trips - throw in the M50 and the N11 and it was heading for 20 very quickly. So 14 for today's mixed driving, on a wet and windy (though mild enough) day is a big improvement. For my Elegance car, assuming a usable capacity of 46 Kwh that gives a range of 328 km - nice! Obviously that would fall if I kept going on the motorway but overall I'm impressed.
