The clip from Liveline where Jonathan Dowdall made a fool of Joe was part of the Hutch documentary just now. That's probably why he went off on a rant about it last week.

I thought today's show was back to old days Liveline. Anything could have happened with the subjects talked about.

There will be no gold when Joe in on his pet subjects.

kneecap are a nasty sectarian outfit who are dragging Irish language through the gutter. Thankfully they got zero BAFTAS - exactly what they deserved

i'm sure they are devastated they were snubbed by the british film awards. probably the worst thing the british have ever done to them or their families.

It also says the hotel owners want to accommodate IPAs (international protection applicants) rather than Ukrainian's , as the money has been cut for Ukrainian's. Scandalous stuff.

€220,000/week and how many more hotels are housing IPAS applicants? That’s just nuts!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,466 ✭✭✭✭2smiggy

a 4* hotel near me took in 127 IPA's recently @ €84 per night. Stripping the various bedrooms of paintings, shelving, fancy beds. There is hardly a hotel left around the place that takes actual guests

I disagree. I’m in the first flush of youth by Joe’s standards and can remember the 80s and the troubles and all that IRA posturing. I ended up at a kneecap gig at a festival and was shocked by the amount of open drug taking but I was at the wrong gig for my age but enjoyed it anyway. I think the lads are inclusive in that they donated money recently won in s as court case to arts centres for young people on both success of the divide. Also, the image thing is fine for the culture as well. If all you’d seen was British army land rovers and paramilitaries going around in balaclavas, it’s not beyond the bounds to appropriate that image and do something positive with it. They’re not sending out messages for their fans to burn out loyalist homes or businesses Also, they’re a rap group so that whole genre is based around looking hard. Well it used to be anyway. They’re probably doing more for the Irish language amongst their target audience than every second ad being As Gaeilge now is.

    WOW !!

Monster Hunter Wild AND a steam code with a MSI monitor

Must be a scam ! Well done for highlighting it

Not sure what Joe will make of it though when talk turns to monsters, gigabytes, monitor panel-type and RAM requirements

    Should be good though !

What's all this about hotel owner chancers ?

    Tax the tourists

The Pope is on his last legs even though he is only a nipper at 88

Tourist tax, ridiculous says Joe. For once I agree with him.

This is Ireland. It would cost more money to collect than it will bring it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 966 ✭✭✭angel eyes 2012

Does he ever discuss plantations and/or the state of the hospitals? Far more pertinent than the Pope's health or a tourist tax.

No. Smallest mention of the plantation of Ireland has gotten callers bad lined/dropped. Hospitals are also rarely mentioned, yet everyone in the country has experienced or heard 1st hand tales of horror or delays

as an lrish man and someone who has always been proud of my country l am finding it increasingly hard to see why exactly tourists would want to come here?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,837 ✭✭✭✭LambshankRedemption

As well as that, there is the risk of killing the goose that lays the Golden eggs.

And after a trip to Dublin city centre last week I would say the goose is on life support as it is. It's looking very grim, filthy, huge amounts of closed shops and loads of graffiti.

I'd imagine for a lot of people their first time paying the tourist tax would be their last.

Other cities with a tourist tax are Barcelona, Venice, Prague.

  • Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 10,704 Mod ✭✭✭✭squonk

Why not charge the elastic pricing hotels the tax and legislate a hefty fine if they’re seen to be shoving it onto the consumer.
