They were told they could travel freely, including home for christmas. There is an article in the Irish Times interviewing some ukrainians who said they would have gone home but the cost of flights was prohibitive.

Now flights are only expensive if there is high demand. I cannot link it. But Google it.

I think your extremely naive if you think none weren't travelling back to Ukraine.

Again did you read the link about this that I posted a page ago to you ?

You are posting incorrect out of date information at this stage .

    It's not out of date.

It's something that happened and had to be addressed and should never have been allowed to happen in the first place. When our government are spending billions on this then there should be strict and stringent policies in place to begin with. Again, the government shutting the door after the horse has bolted.

    Yes I read your link.

Then why double down on misinformation? Yes it happened at the beginning but was halted at the end of 2023, over a year ago .

    That's what you aren't admitting .

This was on the old threads and discussed at the time. It is not present or correct .

So what happens that modular home estate in clonmel when the war is over?

Genuine question. Has it been covered. Or will it be impossibe to get them to go back. I can imagine it would be. Its a bit nuts going to those lengths to house non irish for free.

No its not misinformation, it HAPPENED, I'm saying it should never have been that way and it's typical of our government and their lazy attitude towards tax payers money to enable such nonsense. If Ukraine is not safe to live In, it's not safe to holiday in.

It's the same with the hotel owners who were scamming the stateon the back of this. They should have been prosecuted for fraud but where allowed pay the money back instead because not one was charged.

Side note. There's a doc on channel 4 "Go back to Where u came From."

If ye get a chance to watch a few episodes, do. Bit eye opening. Im beginning to think we haven't a clue what's really going on.

Past tense. You were asking about it as if it was still going on ...

Until you read the link I posted which told you were wrong. But you continue on because you cannot admit that ..why is that ?

    Anyway enough already .

Of course it will be over. Wars end. I cant say when. You think its acceptable for people to be given free accomodation like this, when most of their country is safe? Im curious to know what will happen this modular estate when the war is over. Dismantled probably. Or they will get to take them back to Ukraine with them! Free of charge.

Your link is from October 2023, however....

From November 2023, link below, they can travel freely with unrestricted absence from December 22nd 2023 to January 8th 2024.

    https://www.newstalk.com/news/ukrainians-refugees-permitted-to-visit-home-for-christmas-1615671

Ukrainians living in hotels and government provided accommodation here will be permitted to return home for Christmas.

The Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth decided to permit Ukrainian refugees who are living in hotels and other State provided accommodation to travel freely for the Christmas period.

"In order to facilitate Beneficiaries of Temporary Protection to travel, whether within Ireland or abroad, a decision has been made to allow unrestricted absences from 22 December 2023 – 08 January 2024," it said

Exactly. I don’t understand why it’s being dismissed because it happened in 2023 when that’s only just over a year ago really. They should be held accountable for actions

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,335 ✭✭✭Damien360

Genuine question. Trump has proposed that Russia gets some Ukrainian territory as part of his plan. Would that mean that the Ukrainians here as guests will suddenly be IPA's ? What's the possibility that our generosity will leave us on the hook for a whole group that were supposed to leave at some point ? The numbers of IPA's would multiply overnight.

Would you like to go back to a country if Russia is in control ?

Hold who accountable ? The FF/FG government that was just reelected a few months ago ?! That was the time to hold people accountable for anything untoward gone on before .

It didn't happen because people either voted them in again or for some reason didn't go out to vote .

So much for holding them accountable .

I agree that they shouldn’t have been voted back in. It’s disappointing but not surprising

We are still free to talk about events that happened in the very recent past regardless

Once again Carol Nolan leading the way. This woman should be in government leading the line.

It's not just Ireland that needs this to be on a war footing but the whole of Europe need to wake up call. Europe needs to wake up and admit they cannot continue on like this, this is why far right parties across Europe are growing stronger and stronger because citizens want the madness to stop.

I'm sick and tired of my tax going to the immigration industry, the 1 billion spent to accommodate refugees and migrants is insane and add to the fact this figure doesn't include all the nice benefits and the NGO costs.

Ireland has a perception of being a soft touch, we basically put the red carpet out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 16,973 ✭✭✭✭Goldengirl

Stuff that basically is now irrelevant due to change of rules and reelection of same government ...sure , do that .

    "processing is working" 😂

Processing = people in the system for years, living in State-funded accommodation while working full time, being rejected and then appealing until they're granted "permission to remain" (probably cos they have now had a kid here) which amounts to a slap in the face to the overwhelming majority of Irish people voted to remove the anchor baby law. And then getting citizenship 3 years from the date of the original application. And after all that still not leaving State-funded "emergency" accommodation.

Nothing about the IP system is working.

Anyone watching this nonsense on Virgin?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,745 ✭✭✭Lotus Flower

You’re saying we shouldn’t talk about previous mistakes due to reelection? That argument makes no sense. Reelection is more of an argument to keep discussing and reminding people of the many mistakes made by the same people in charge.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 104 ✭✭goingmadted

There are in control of a tiny part of it. Not much more than they have been since 2014. Ukraine is a big country. Russia wont be in control of most of the country. The money is better off being spent on aid in their own country.

It beggars belief how ppl can defend the immigration policy of this country. Whats wrong with you?

It makes no sense. Our own ppl struggling for a house while yet mostly well off Ukranians getting free housing and benefits in ireland.

There is a middle ground you know! A bit of common sense.

I await the " its the law" response.

i’m sick and tired of NGO CEO lecturing on the airwaves to Irish taxpayers. Even when challenged by some radio hosts they still continue with their virtue signaling bulshit. I would suspend funding to these for a period of time… that’s the first place i’d be looking to save money.

I posted a link to comments from DEpt of Intergration with quoted comment from November 2023.

I was wondering if your application is rejected are you allowed to continue work here? Also, if you are convicted of a crime does this affect your application in anyway?

How long does the rejection process/appeal last?

Years? I saw a good line online saying our asylum process is like a J1 visa program with free accommodation which is spot on.

We are wide open to be abused by leeches,Irish/non Irish

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,313 ✭✭✭prunudo

Doesn't sound like our bail laws are working in the intrests of society either. We have been gaslit, abused and ridiculed for years, asking, telling, begging people to listen and take on board what we werwere saying. But no, ostriches everywhere, afraid to see what was staring the country in the face.

For me Ireland is totally corrupt allowing all this to happen Dublin City is a no go area now as the countrys immigration policy has allowed a lot of dodgy people in

You hear of local protests and people shouting "unvetted" etc. Then you have politicians/gardai calling nonsense saying everyone is vetted coming jere. But then when the public hear of people on sex offenders list living in IPAS centres you have to ask who is actually putting out propaganda? So it looks like we are getting and allowing sex offenders, criminals come here to claim asylum.

The government and the far right seems to be as bad with their lies.
