Diaz, Nunez, and maybe even Jota have until the summer to make their case for staying, otherwise I wouldn't be shocked to see any of them sold. They're all quite flawed as things stand and we could definitely upgrade on them.

Jota is my favourite out of the three but he'd be the first one I'd move on because he just breaks down to often.

Would go all out for João Pedro and maybe Anthony Gordon

Yeah I agree, I think if all 3 could stay fit Jota would be the clear pick, but his injury record really is atrocious.

Between Nunez and Diaz I'd rather us keep Nunez; he's a few years younger, he gets more involved, and he puts up better stats:

In the PL Diaz has 24 goals and 12 assists in 6,131 minutes, Nunez has 24 and 13 in 4,584.

As of right now though I wouldn't be shocked or disappointed to have them all replaced. I know that sounds crazy to say about players who are currently favourites to win the league, but all 3 of them have too many flaws for Salah to continue to carry.

I think Anthony Gordon would be a huge addition.

I've been harsh on Diaz but I think it's clear the position he's been playing just doesn't work for him. Should at least let him play in his natural position.

Having a good season, but isn't he just yet another left sided forward to add to Gakpo, Diaz, and if needed, Jota? If we were to let Diaz go, then i'd be good with bringing him in alright though - although Gakpo has made that position his own with some excellent performances.

Elsewhere, for the Diaz out of position thing, that's definitely true - but I think he's been poor out on the left this season (and most of last season) too. He had a good goalscoring patch from the left at the start of the season, but even then his general play was no better than it is now - it was just masked by goals. Even with his regular usage down the middle, he's still been playing a good number of games out left - like the Plymouth game last week - and I definitely just find our moves break down far less with Gakpo out there than with Diaz.

Hopefully Gakpp is only out for one or two games, probably be ok missing the wolves game but need him over this busy period

will PGMOL be required to answer any questions on the litany of errors and incompetence from M Oliver which triggered the chaos seen at the end of the game.

Ban (assuming there is one) won't be immediate...

But there should be a behind the scenes talk that MO being another Cootes should only ever ref another Liverpool game if it’s against Altringham in the Carabao cup.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,620 ✭✭✭happyoutscan

Watching the footage and going by what has been interpreted, Oliver is not particularly good at dealing with situations intelligently, especially when considering the performance he had just put in during that match.

Anyone can have a bad day at the office - it happens to us all - but to be completely oblivious to that is ridiculous. Of course, Kavanaugh wasn't bloody great either.

Will be interesting to see if Arsenal can capitalize on it today.

At the risk of Hyperbole, is this the end of the premier League as we know it?

Could/should the 18 or so non state funded clubs set up their own league? Would the lower leagues be able to join them. Could the likes of MCFC and NUFC not be invited?

Effectively allowing states to fund football clubs is going to destroy the game.

Was it naive to think the likes of Everton would get points deductions but Lawyers FC would never be affected.

Bring in a spending cap, which all clubs have to comply with. Max of 30 players, 100 youth players and 100 staff (apart from match day staff) and they've to remain under £300m per annum. The game has gotten too expensive for fans already. Capping it would slow things down.

The touchline ban while obviously not ideal doesn't seem to be that big a deal, manager can still be in the dressing room pre match, half time & post match & can also communicate with the bench from his seat in the stand throughout the game

Have they changed the rules on that? I remember the time good aul Jose had to get into the dressing room via the linen basket 🤣🤣

Even if they get a late winner here, this lot aren’t chasing us down. Over reliant on set pieces and missing their best attackers.

The Tarkowski goal pretty meaningless except local bragging rights over the Goodison park record.

Not sure how reliable ESPN are, but they're reporting that PSG are after Ibou and he might be interested in going home... 😕

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 753 ✭✭✭FernandoTorres

Yeah I'd be more worried about Forest now. Arsenal are a shambles.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,418 ✭✭✭Ottoman_1000

You have to remember Ibou is in the middle of contract negotiations, so story's like this are the norm when that's happening.

I simply don’t get this line of thinking . At least hold off until the match is over and ends 0-0 before writing Arsenal off.

They are 4 points behind with us having us to somehow manage 4 games coming in 10 days after the toll of Merseyside derby. How are people not taking them seriously is beyond me. There Goalie, Mid and Defence is very strong and if you not conceding you can nick wins like they have against wolves and today. They are absolutely capable of winning the league as they keeping clawing wins out.

Would have been huge for Arsenal to drop points today with chance to go clear 9 points tomorrow so with 10mins left was beginning to hope so Gutting to concede 98th min goal mid week when 9 points clear and now it’s 4 barely 3 days later.

this is absurd thinking Arsenal only four points behind and they are ravaged with injuries

Super win got them today with no available strikers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,486 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

Arsenal were always going to win today, I actually expected Arsenal to be ahead early and wrap it up before the 60th minute.

Apparently our defence is crap but we've only conceded one more goal in the league. Arsenal are just like us really, will usually be very solid but will give up something preventable every now and then which is punished.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,451 ✭✭✭✭noodler

    Big win for Arsenal.

    Pressure back on us.

Way more worried about tomorrow than I should be.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,688 ✭✭✭riddles

we need Diaz Nunez and Jota to start delivering fast and not be looking behind us

Exactly my thinking. Arsenal are very dangerous, they have been in title races the last few years, so they definitely won't be put off by this one. And however impotent they are up top, they're a lot more solid than us at the back.

All they have to do is stay solid, keep in games and they will get chances.
