Have been struggling with the same thing to be honest, and even thought of cancelling. I went and had a look around at alternatives, but tbh, nothing comes remotely close in terms of value for money. I test drove a few recently, the Kia ev6 is close but at least 14k more expensive for similar spec, and tbh, just not as responsive to drive, slightly less range and less features. Nice car tbf. Elon musk is a tool. I ordered the car months back and unfortunately he has gotten worse. Plenty of folks who have sky subscriptions support Rupert Murdoch, who is arguably worse, plenty of the complainers have Facebook or insta accounts, which is supporting another despicable company, VW covered up systematic pollution, ....

Whataboutery? sort of, but hypocrisy does abound.

I could see the board cutting EM loose as CEO eventually, if he becomes too much of a sales liability,…money talks.

PMs or a link to the referal thread.

I'm not even sure we are allowed to post the link to the referral thread anymore…..

Same here, I'm driving electric for about 8 years now, Ioniq 28 then a model 3 for the past three years and have a highland rwd on order. There's a big difference in owning a tesla now and and three years ago when i bought first, they are no longer considered a 'cool' car and i can see a 'anything but tesla' route for ev by many first time buyers developing, and understandably so.

The thought of adding any money to that muppets wealth does play on my mind a bit but as you say nothing really comes close spec and price wise to the model 3 rwd. If the seal was a little cheaper i probably would cancel the order and go for that but its quite a few thousand more. The model 3 is also beginning to look a little dated compared to some of the competition from China that is on the horizon. The next year or two should be interesting…..

    Chinese models will turn eve

The Chinese models will turn everything on its head, for sure. There is still a little brand snobbery wrt to Chinese cars but that will change am fast.

I think there will be plenty of new teslas on the road on the next few weeks, from end of year sales and the furore will die down, it's not as of there's a bunch of satan worshippers behind every wheel. Musk will be under pressure to dial back the narrative or go, he is an important shareholder but a minority one still. His cr#p is doing real damage to the brand and that won't be going unnoticed by some major stakeholders.

They can't get rid of him. The stock is trading at a 180+ P/E all based on musk's future promises.

If he goes that all goes up in smoke

It's good to know that I'm not alone in having second thoughts. I was looking at the kia EV6 too, but they are nearly 8k more for the same spec. I'm hoping to look at a used Polestar 2 next weekend, as a new one is 13k more than the Tesla. Really like the Tesla but Musk is just damaging the brand and that will cause damage to value of the cars down the line. If he was gone, I'd have no problem getting one. Hopefully Trump will fall out with him shortly.

I make the ev6 14k more for equivalent spec. Model 3 rwd with metallic is 40k approx. An equivalent ev6 really is more like a gt line ( sunroof, leather...) not a standard. Nice car, but not sure I can justify the extra spend as much as I detest EM. Tesla M3 is a perfect car for me, 0.99% finance as well. it's just EM that is ruining things, and that's no small thing. I'm far from a leftie, but he really has turned into a problem. As you say, hard to know how it will effect resales in a few years, it might blow over. Reading just now that Tesla sales are absolutely tanking in Aus and NZ as well this month, and I think it is largely down to that one personality.

Finally got “the call” this morning - pencilled in for a collection on Friday ❤️

Let’s see… I guess my car (407* vin) is in Baldonnell, just pending registration and payment. But I’ll only believe the wait is over once I clear their lot in her 😂🤞🤡

Do you mind sharing when you ordered and spec?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16 Charlamagne tha God

I ordered mid-November: standard blue model 3 rwd.

So a 3 month lead time. Which is not terrible for a new car, it’s all the changes and rescheduling that are needlessly irritating. But also not great given the fact that they’re not made to order and have limited models and variants. I guess their forecasting process needs a few tweaks.

it’s a shipping issue mostly. it’s only the past 2 years that they have meaningful volumes in the Irish market to build shipping schedules from, and shipping schedules are notoriously inflexible, so i assume they’ll improve as they go on, especially if volumes increase.

    Sales from 2024 to 2020: 2900, 3300, 1300, 850 & 780.

I’m thinking of tinting the roof fully and the two back windows.

I’ve had it done in my last few cars and it’ stops the kids from giving out that the sun is in their eyes. Has anyone gotten it done?

Lines and lines of cars in Baldonnel at the moment so lots of collections happening soon by the looks of things.

I had it done on my M3 Highland, think about €160k locally (midlands) for "rear" roof and side windows along with those two tiny rear bits of glass. No need to do roof over driver IMHO, never an issue

also check out 3W mats for m3h on amazon uk, very popular and classy

Not yet, but i called into from WTS in Kylemore in Dublin to get a quotation, 150 euro for rear glass . I wanted a slight tint all around but they told me the front windows (all the windows actually) is at the legal level so its not possible to tint the front..well it is but it would be illegal.

Stupid question, but has anyone who got their car recently received their log book yet? I presumed once i taxed the car, the log book would follow in the post, but its been 2 weeks now and still no sign of it

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 42,176 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

I changed a lot book from spsv to private and it took 3 weeks. I called a friend in there and they said they are at least 14 days behind. She was able to pull it and check it slant least I know it was there and not lost.

    TLDR.
they have a major backlog at present.

Model Y order holders, some of you expect a call soon. From the book. Heading to Baldonnell yesterday.

Collected my M3 this afternoon, I love it!!! It really has that nice heavy feel that I like in a car and the drive was very quiet. Very rainy and cold and dark out in Baldonnell this evening so it was a very low key collection - as in "hi, welcome, driving licence please, it's parked over there, enjoy and good luck"… I need to give it a closer once over in the morning. Mine was only charged to 19%, and was at 8% by the time I got home (taking the long route obvs) so maybe plan to visit a charger if you have any kind of a drive home…

The collection lot was full and they have more held in off site storage too, so hopefully there will be a lot of happy new Tesla drivers over the next week or two. All the best to those of you collecting over the next few days.

Collection experience is the "norm". If you know what to expect you can see it is a relatively efficient process. Main thing is that you are enjoying your new toy and learning its features. Best of luck with it all
