    In every day life?

Mod: The new charter is clear, I've deleted some posts but any more of these posts will be warned and escalating bans applied. Changes had to be made as it was taken too far.

Gas altogether that now the new thing we can't slag off Joes language that was fine up until now and possibly (likely) his replacement for how they lack to communicate.

For year it was fine but in the last few weeks that changed for some reason.?

Hmmm ehh I don't know who could have a problem with it.

It may have been fine, but it wasn't funny.

Just a bit of joshing Breener eh?

Not a great user of this thread but I got many a good laugh out of it especially when the Dufficer had the odd 'flare up'

Wouldn't like the thread to go down the old route some of us can remember.

    Just saying' like……..

MOD NOTE: Some comments were deleted. Please read the charter and keep it in mind when you post. FWIW there has been no contact from RTE or Joe Duffy in relation to this thread. Now you know you can stop wondering.

    I think Joes a smashing lad…

I understand the host’s accent is now not a matter we can comment on - does that extend to Funny Friday where he puts on silly accents, or does his camp voice? As for accents, I personally feel that presenters accents should be as neutral as possible - and I say this with an equal aversion to any strong accent, be it decidedly rural or decidedly D4 - but if it is deemed we cannot comment on this then fine.

I do have to ask though if he cones out with things like the previously quoted line about “going down the Liffey on a doughnut” or engages in shall we say unusual, unique, and/or incorrect phrasing, grammar, tenses - are these are also not for discussion?

I’m asking as this is the national broadcaster and at the risk of sounding like a snob I believe there are certain standards that should be met when it comes to the diction, grammar, and delivery of presenters.

This is a thread I rarely visit but I would appreciate any clarity that can be given on this matter for future reference should u decide to post here. Thank you.

MOD NOTE: The charter is clear in terms of what is allowed. Warning issued.

I suppose tomorrows show will be covering*
Joe thanking KT for covering for him for the last two weeks OOTO like any normal presenter would do for his "loyal listeners".
Taylor Swift being booed and Trump being applauded as the Superbowl.
Punters being randomly stabbed in Stoneybatter by a Brazilian chap.
Majority of the show covering those still without power since January 24th.

*As likely as pure Jake Daniels flowing through my kitchen tap in the morning.

    Joe,

Your colleagues in RTE dont understand the fear the good people of Dublin City Centre have. It is a disgrace Joe, a thundering disgrace. Garry Gannon TD talking sense is beings attacked, live on air.

Will Marian's brother sort out the issues? What about yesterday's Ballier robber armed with a knife?

    What can be done?

I wonder will Mr. Duffy cover the RTE documentary on his neighbour Gerry Hutch which is airing tonight on RTE 1?

Today, Joe is back after a well earned break after working for 4 or 5 weeks straight:

    Today:

    Criminality

RTE documentary on The Monk (Joe's neighbour)

    Adoptions

As long as Dublinese is allowed to be broadcast by the host of Liveline on national radio, it's good enough for this site

MOD NOTE: The charter is clear Notuce issued

In udder news, people are baffled by criminality being rampant. Have dese people only woke up ?

The sporadic thread name changes have gone too - talk about bland!

So are we getting a national interest discussion this afternoon or more complaints about da public service and PSC's or Ballyer FM?

It's all up in the air so to speak

A thing isn't what it says it is.

A thing is what it does.

Joe, I have been saying for years we need new prisons in this country. Finish off Thornton Hall. I am beyond caring that a few FF Heads pocked me hard earned for it. A US style super prison requires far less prison officers than The Joy to run. It may even be cost neutral. The Joy site can be redeveloped in to badly need housing. The time has come to lockup long term gurriers with 50 or more previous convictions.

Edit: Change ** Joy to The Joy, as may be offensive to some. I naturally use the term being a true Dub. Once was humiliated about my pronunciation of 'the' in the class room by a teacher.

I am wondering if the term Gurrier is still allowed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,145 ✭✭✭✭McDermotX

Of course. It's a perfectly legitimate categorized word.

Who you call it might be, though. Certainly Duffy wouldn't be happy with you labeling it anyone under 30

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,474 ✭✭✭✭zell12

What about 'unwell'? Tis Joe that coined it, inflicted it on the whole nation

We were all called Gurriers in school by our Headmaster, when he got annoyed. A Chislier was a lesser level of Gurrier. What are the modern replacements now?.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,145 ✭✭✭✭McDermotX

I suspect it's better to use the actual term.......which, ironically, people get checked for on Liveline

Drug addicts, criminals etc......all good obviously. Maybe type it in caps and bold so Duffy's researchers can see it stand out
