Could you imagine the amount of people who tune in to the toy show (which already has problems on the international player) or 6 Nations, can't see the streaming work very well for that

At a guess, they're still only testing it

The exchange relies on batteries if the mains is lost. Our exchange is less than 900m and the fibre failed after 10.5 hours. We have over 8000 Wh of batteries and 12 solar panels, though given the weather and time of year we were getting 1/100th of typical May to August charging. The satellite system, freezers, fridge, lounge, library, fibre modem, wifi, router, switch etc all of the mains from the solar system's batteries. On a minimum usage we have about 20 hours without sunlight, so for the light half of the year we are practically immune to power cuts. That power cut was 11 hours.

    Streaming scales abysmally.

Iteresting, information.I would almost have preferred to keep the fibre coming and doing without power for some of the time as I have small scale solar, and battery so

Sorry finger trouble.Battery storage, moving away from lead acid to lipo, from an EV breakers yard. A small 3 phase turbine also contributing.

The UPS would run the fibre box and hub for many hours, battery monitor, firestick and aerial means TV is not a problem, although even the local transponder went down for some time.

The lack of phone calls in or out is concerning for relatives, who suspect I may have blown myself up , with good reason, based on previous pointless projects.

This is why I can't see it removing DVB-S and DVB-T, it doesn't matter how many are watching, the power requirements are the same and everybody gets the same video and sound level

Not thread related, but did a small double-take at the username.

Great to see you back on the site @watty.

Thanks for the info, not too worried because as I'm sure you know the Samsung TV receives over 90 channels on the net, CNN amongst them.,Interesting as pointed out elsewhere the new models charge the battery of the remote from wifi.

I also found it interesting that the old sky HD boxes at two locations had no problem picking up CNN,but the old freesat boxes swaped with the sky box wouldn't?

if it’s an official Freesat box with their branding and EPG, it doesn’t have CNN. You’d have to put it in non-Freesat mode and tune it manually, which on the 4K boxes is hardly usable at all.

You make the point I was trying to thanks.

I was simply trying to point out that Im regularly getting notifications my phone suggesting that folk ditch their Sky subscriptions and buy the small ,cheap freesat boxes, infering that they will continue to receive the same channels.

You point out I believe that there are reasons they may not.

Any confusion is not going to be helped by having a thread about Freely, a UK IPTV ( Internet Streaming) service in the Terrestrial forum. Nor by the introduction of discussions about Satellite services (Sky, Freesat and Free to Air) into the thread.

People outside of the UK probably won't be able to get Freely anyway. CNN is still availabe by satellite using a non Freesat box, if that is a deal breaker for leaving Sky. The phone messages would have been correct in the past when CNN was on Freesat.
