Are you remotely surprised that he is more interested in his pet projects than the economy?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,476 ✭✭✭✭odyssey06

Why would Trump bother himself to do anything about the economy?

The problems are either intractable, or benefitting his big business buddies.

He fed the electorate a pack of lies on the economy and now has to distract with Greenland, Gaza, trans rights etc

Baseless, ie devoid of any sort of logic, reason or evidence. It's not complicated.

Many would argue that women should not be allowed to have jobs. Does not mean the idea has merit.

A continuation? Did Biden do workplace raids on farms, did he threaten to board school busses, did he round up Americans who looked a bit foreign to be brought in for questioning? https://edition.cnn.com/2021/10/12/politics/ice-workplace-raids/index.html

Biden was no friend to undocumented migrants, he deported an awful lot of them, but that was using the existing mechanisms for processing them and deporting them.

Trump is going back to what he did in his first term. Children in cages, separated from their parents (some of them never reunited to this day) performative cruelty

    Chomsky(2017) on the Republican party

"Has there ever been an organisation in human history that is dedicated, with such commitment, to the destruction of organised human life on Earth?"

Also the same people claiming Trump is protecting women have not said a word about the fact he has appointed at least one person accused of sexual assault and another who is implicated in the coverup of abuse. On top of that he wanted a man who is implicated in people trafficking to be attorney general. Instead it's back to their rather unhealthy obsession with going after trans people.

Go Trump! I cannot see Kiev being amenable, as nothing to stop future Russian expansion

Do you think men should be allowed beat up women in a boxing ring or trash them in every other sport?

Enjoyed seeing big Trump fan Riley Gaines whingeing on Youtube about her English husband being deported to England because his papers weren't in order.

Many Americans think it very logical that women & girls should have the right to female only spaces and sports, (as laid down in the original 1972 Title IX), that is before Biden/Harris got their hands on it. Women with jobs, cool 😎

You and I are not going to make any progress here. I hear/read Title IX (female only) womens sports played a big part in the US election, you want evidence and I point to the US media, you call it baseless, so what can I say.

Agreed. You've provided nothing to back up your claim. Let's call it a day.

They've been pushing for changes here for decades. The Farmers want it and the workers want it.

However , the bigger entities that own the farms or are the ones that purchase the crops don't as it would increase costs, so they lobby quietly for nothing to be done.

Of course , like any system there's a risk of abuse - But worse than guys sneaking over the border and hiding away to work on farms without any legal oversight?

And if they are there legally then they have the ability to make sure they are getting treated properly as they can actually complain to someone and not get deported!!

So Russia gets to keep everything they've stolen and Ukraines ability to defend itself is permanently hobbled.

    Did Putin write this????

Pathetic , but exactly what was to be expected.

It seems you refuse to look at the points I'm making and see the difference between Trump 1.0 and 2.0. As if you're in denial.

USA has not a president like this in recent times and he's extremely dangerous. Look at what happened on Jan 6th 2021 and what he's capable of. He's a threat to democracy and is off the leash now with less barriers in his way.

Not since Brexit have I seen a country declare war on its own soft power. If they do this, American influence is decimated.

And that is, as they say in the States, the whole ball game. Once the US federal justice department has been purged, there will be no legal recourse against Trump's various executive orders, and the US will truly be in uncharted waters.

Now, blue states could perhaps ignore executive orders, deeming them to run contrary to state law and things like that, but I suspect Trump will use federal funding as a weapon to strongarm states into cooperating. If blue states really want to go the whole way, they could maybe even pass laws that would prevent federal taxes from being collected. It would be an extreme move, and the federal government would almost certainly retaliate by attempting to use force to get blue states to comply.

But this could well be the outcome of Trump and his cronies ignoring the established laws and norms. Why would blue states observe the ones Trump tried to impose?

Honestly think it's decimated on the international stage at this point. They simply are making themselves irrelevant.

Its possible that the US will have to rely on the lower federal courts to save justice in the US. One lower court judge who issued a ruling blocking one of Trump's EO's, the one to destroy the birth-rights of children born in the US, passed a comment to the effect that judges in the lower courts were there to protect the laws of the US, whatever about judges elsewhere. Its easy to guess which court was being referred to.

The US will remain relevant in some ways because they are a large market and they have a large military but no one is going to look to them for leadership or direction on Global issues any more.

It will be a case of monitoring "How will the US react" and "How do we make sure they don't f*ck this up".

Even if a normal Government was to come to power in 4 years time , the rest of the world will never accept the risk that they might elect another Trump in the future so the redesign of Global leadership will happen regardless.

That might work for a while , but the next step will be "Why should a radical left Judge in a Blue state be able to tell the whole country what they can and can't do??" and they'll just ignore that Judge and claim that the ruling only applies in whatever State they were from.

They won't care about the rule of law.

Yep, that's about it. I think the stability that fixed government terms historically brought has pretty much flipped on its head. Imho, if we ousted in his first term they'd be in a lot more stable a position democratically at this point.

But “state power” and common law precedent

I am curious as to how Trump circus will try to undo the whole legal system in US and not get tied up in lawsuits until the heat death of the universe

Feigning concern for women in sport whilst supporting a rapist. You're not fooling anybody.

We'll have to wait three years to find out the answer [if Trump is still in office then]. Hopefully he is well on the way to give us the answer. If he **** up the economy worse than it is now price-wise on small grocery items like eggs etc by hitting the local farm producers and their markets.

Eggs be small but there are more exported [by multiple millions in dollar earnings for the Fed Govt] than imported. Transfer the importance they have to households budgets and diets to other produce grown in the US for its citizens and his "care" of the economy could cost him dear. The Dems cant be held responsible for the way the Trump Admin team run the economy.

Trump has claimed control of it with his insistence that tariffs are good for the US and its citizens. I assume he means the trickle-down will work for the US purchaser.

    #MEGA MAKE EUROPE GREAT AGAIN

I’m hoping this goes the way of his Gaza “idea”- had we suggested that on thread we would have been rightly castigated - I assume Trump will then release all frozen funds and order US companies back to work in Russia- “creating more jobs”

It’s laughable except it’s frightening - I’m sure Ukraine are tired of war and are willing to concede to certain things but this is just railroading them - pride and the death of their soldiers to date will not allow them to accept this - the quicker this idea is slammed the quicker they get back to the drawing board

Gaza plan mental, he'll either end up impeached (again) or win the nobel peace prize.

Trump is Israel’s lapdog. Sanctioning the I.C.C to defend a war criminal, talking about ethnically cleansing Gaza etc. what happened to America first?
