I read somewhere yesterday that we should basically ignore anything that Trump says during press conferences because he just says whatever pops into his head at the time. Just wait and see what he actually does because it's often wildly different to what he had announced.

Indians replaced Palestinians since October 7th

There’s a parallel thread where you can learn all about how great BRICS are

Though some observers have noted that he appeared to be reading off an autocue at times i.e. seems he had a general plan for the 'resettlement' of Gaza even before he gave the press conference, it wasn't all spontaneous.

Did you even read the link you dumped here? It says nothing about all USAID employees, just the ones who made donations. Typical conservative fake news.

He does tend to riff even when reading from an autocue. Also, his staff tried to walk back his comments after the fact so it's difficult to know how detailed his plan was on paper.

The thing that concerns me most is that Netanyahu has started to run with the idea and he knows he can do whatever he wants with Palestine now that Trump has his back.

Katz being an idiot again, but what's new. This clown has history of stupid comments.

I think you will find one of the key attributes of any "far left" regime is supremacy of the military. Look at any far left government last 100 years be it USSR, China, Cuba, North Korea and huge amounts of total GDP is spent building gigantic armies...

Like a million rules/regulations/laws/whatever over the years and decades, I think they should change it, but I also don't give much of a **** either way.

That's not the problem - the real problem is that these things are hijacked by populists and agitators who then use social media to amplify and gaslight them beyond all reason, weaponise them, and next thing you know it's an election issue.

And next thing extreme populists or the far right are on their way into power.

They use the same technique over and over to split people, manufacture tribalism and culture wars - rinse, repeat. The concerning part is how many people fall for it. It's grim to watch.

    Sort of…

The problem is that his "pronouncements" give other bad actors the opportunity to run with his ramblings.

Take the Gaza Riviera bullshit - Yes , it's not going to happen as his rancid addled brain imagines , but it gives bad actors on all sides an opportunity to do something terrible.

The Israelis start forcibly relocating people from Gaza , claiming they are doing it as part of "Trumps plan" or alternatively Hamas (or bad actors within that group) use it as an excuse to break the cease fire and kick off hostilities again. All because Trump as the President of the United States has absolutely no filter and just blurts out whatever nonsensical bollocks crosses his brain at that particular moment.

Back that up with his refusal to acknowledge that something he said was wrong so he just doubles down on it over and over.

Right now you have various members of his party doing the "What he really meant was" media tour , whilst he's out there saying "Everyone thinks it's a brilliant idea".

In fairness, he referenced a DEI Musical in Ireland which turned out to be an other voices concert.

There must have been women involved. Disgraceful 😉

Feel free to delude yourself that the split of the donations is not reflective of the views of the staff in general.

It's an entirely logical view for the staff though, and I don't see how it can't be held against them.

Choice was support the party that is generally going to maintain your job/lifestyle/livelihood, or support the leopards who've suggested there'll be a lot of USAID face-eating.

It doesn't prove they have inherent loyalty to the Dems or are inherently anti-Trump. Merely proves they can add 2+2.

    They didnt argue that though.

What they actually said was its up to sporting bodies and that they should strive for inclusion, fairness and follow the science. eg. where there is no unfair advantage facilitate inclusion.

Some individuals argued there should be no restrictions at all on trans women in female sports but that was never the democratic policy. The republicans successfully conned some folks into believing that the democrats stood on a platform of forced transitions and trans in female sports. Millions of gullible people believed it.

Some republicans argue that all Muslims should be deported from the US but no one claimed its republican policy.

Yep, the "cleanup on aisle 4" again. All the while he is cited as the great communicator.

He said last year he would let Israel "finish the job". He never rowed back on that.

Kushner was talking about building properties over there a year ago too.

    It's no secret

Musk is there to hollow out the American state for corporations.

Do you think Ireland should participate in the forced relocation of Gazans?

    The Daily wi

Imagine employees in an organisation devoted to international aid, making political donations to politicians who promise to protect international aid?

Why would anyone who works for USAID spend their own money to donate to the GOP under Trump?

Feel free to delude yourself into believing people who choose to work in providing overseas aid being unlikely to be Trump supporters is anything other than a reflection of the fact that they are capable of empathy and therefore not likely to be big fans of a sociopathic ideology

It's hard to take accusations of delusion seriously from someone who doesn't think that the sitting US President is not part of the political establishment.

With apologies to the mods for posting this in the wrong thread earlier, here's an interesting take on the reason behind Elon's spending cuts…

Its obvious. The oligarchy is protecting itself. They are the true cause of the issues the average American is facing through their accumulation of the wealth generated by the productivity of everyone, and they know it too. The tax base has been hollowed out, because the growth in the economy has gone overwhelmingly to those who can avoid paying their fair share of tax. The only two solutions that are rational and fair are tax the super wealthy appropriately or distribute the gains more fairly to all those who created the growth through wage increases. So they have gone for the third option - gut public services. With the added benefit that services that previously were provided by the state will now be paid for by the average person, further transferring wealth to the oligarchy.

And the average American has been conned into believing this is being done for their benefit.

Lads it's only a matter of time until Ireland gets it's two days in the sun, due to trading surplus and US jobs and corporate tax. The important thing is not to react to him, just placate with something like "he is welcome anytime, we appreciate his investment and his fantastic golf resort. I heard somewhere that his penis is actually massive..blala" he lives on empty words.
