Kamala couldn't even distance herself from her offer of free surgeries for illegal immigrant trans prisoners. She was a disaster and is the sole reason we have Trump, Americans had enough of Trump and gave the keys to the dems and Biden, then along came the worst candidate in history and they felt they had no choice but to return to Trump.

I posted this with it ….

I thought this was a very balanced review of what went wrong (for Biden-Harris). Lots of Fox news items too, but they're not so neutral.

The claim is that the trans issue cost Harris the election. A CNN link is not evidence.

You already asked me for evidence and I said this in #8520 …

    "Not proof of anything, but listen & learn . . . .

It's not a Megan Kelly rant, or a Fox News Pro Trump debate, it's a level headed discussion on CNN."

I doubt anybody has evidence as to what issues won the debate, but not listening to the public seems to figure highly.

It was an issue, because they made it an issue. Telling people their kids would come home from school a different gender, and other assorted nonsense. Standard RW/Authoritarian playbook, tell your electorate that "x" is causing all the problems, and you know how to fix it.

And it's hotly debated what decided the election and you've been since day one that trans issues were a deciding factor. This sounds more like your pet subject than anything else.

Once again, no evidence provided for what the public think. I think it's best we call it a day.

    Agreed 👍

I just thought it interesting to hear a discussion from CNN, who are not Pro Trump.

Can we ditch Android and the other American tech firms?

The republicans spent 100's of millions turning it into an issue. It worked, money well spent they might say. But it was a non issue until they identified that it was a wedge. They identified an issue that many did not understand or felt uncomfortable with and amplified it to absurd proportions. And used the wedge to hoodwinked the susceptible into believing its a vital issue. But will have no affect, one way or another, on 99% of the population. Other then to make it acceptable to vilify an "outgroup" in public discourse. Meanwhile the oligarchy gains power and influence and the voters are distracted by naming things, DEI and tariffs

One thing that will cause issues for the US public is the removal of the $800 tariff free import value. Bye bye to all that cheap Chinese tat ordered on Temu. They (US customers) will be liable for all duties due any and any administration costs.

We all know what it was like ordering online from outside the EU when the €22 order value VAT exemption was removed.

Why the US had the limit set so high at $800 beggers belief.

Its from CNN (Democrat friendly). They're message is that Harris Biden didn't listen to the public, and who can argue with that. The trans / sport issue did play a part in the overall outcome, and that's what they're saying! Sounds like Riley Gaines message got serious traction with the undecideds.

That's actually a tough one. As pointed out lots of American brands of drink/food are actually manufactured in Europe to EU standards. Though I guess you'd still be boycotting the named American company.

One possibility which I don't see mentioned is wine. Though the problem with boycotting this is most of it comes from California and Oregon which didn't vote for Trump.

It's not from "CNN" , it's from Frank Lunz being interviewed on CNN - There is a difference.

Lunz is a Life-long Republican pollster who has worked with the Trump campaign in the past.

    It's his opinion , not "CNN's" opinion.

Not saying he's right or wrong , but him giving that opinion on CNN doesn't add any more or less weight (or legitimacy) to it.

The ads certainly seem to have hoodwinked you anyway. Her statement was she would follow the law, the same law that Trump followed in his first term

You and Trump must live in a different reality to everyone else.

Unfortunately everyone is responsible over there. So voted for Trump or not we should make them all realise the extent of their mistake.

How are those who couldn't vote and Harris voters responsible? Is this yet another both sides argument?

So what should the Democrats have done - told the NCAA to change their eligibility rules? Because it wasn't government policy that allowed trans swimmers to compete in female events, it was NCAA eligibility criteria for swimming. The policy was not implemented by Harris or Biden or Obama. In fact I think the strongest statement from anyone in a leadership position or position of power was along the lines of its up to individual sports to determine their eligibility criteria but to strive for inclusion and fairness where possible following the science.

It bears repeating - the democrats talked f*ck about trans issues in the campaign and where they did it was statements like "follow the law" and 2treat people with respect" - radical stuff!

I think the Trumpets live in a similar ‘reality’ to the Brexit gobshites..’ EU won’t let us have bendy bananas ‘ etc

I doubt that Trump is capable of the 4D chess move I'm hoping for with Musk.

Reel him in, give him enough rope to hang himself and then take everything off him, leave him penniless!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,148 ✭✭✭Mech1

Absolutely not, it's the argument that says that you are in control of your own destiny, anyone that didn't want Trump back should have done more to ensure that it didn't happen. Be that street protests or even just putting a better candidate forward is up to them.

I don't normally post in these threads, so I'm backing out now take my posts apart if you want but it's my opinion.

    Thanks.

So it's the tedious both sides trope once again.

How should that have worked, exactly? Protests wouldn't have prevented anything - Trump was the duly nominated candidate. Harris was his opponent. Harris and Trump's campaigns spent billions getting the word out. Trump actually, again, lost the popular vote if you count Democrats and Independents together, though the numbers were slight.

Harris was the duly nominated candidate for the Democratic party, but as we all know that was a mess and, had there actually been a primary and a candidate running for a year or so before the election, things might've turned out different.

But, again and again, if you walk into the polling booth and choose Trump, it's your choice you've made. No gun was held to your had. People could've held their noses and voted Harris ffs.

Doesn't have much to do with what we were discussing (not where money comes from [you called it the US "taxpayer's money" if irc], but what it's spent on, and how open the US government is about that, as governments go - cf the examples of model nations China and Russia perhaps?).

If there's international trade and one mercantilist country (China) generates a giant surplus, what does that mean? Deficits somewhere else?

If there's one thing Trump and some Republicans have correct (stopped clocks!) it is that the extent of US entanglement with China is a disaster + a cut off is needed.

Just curious as to which of them will be the loser or the gainer. I assume the loser will be the interloper, seeing as he is in the High Tech-science business. Trump I see as a modern robber-baron.

It seems likely to me that most of the people who blame the Dems loss on "woke" issues do so, because to them, it is a voter issue or concern.

Easier said that done I guess 🙂 , especially if there are no alternatives. Also is there an easy to distinguish products imported from the US? (Unless I misunderstood and you mean ban on all American companies, which is a different discussion...)

So to recap Trumps Tariff "Victories" over Canada and Mexico

Canada got him to stop the tariffs by restating their commitment to additional resources/spending on Border Security that were made under the Biden administration ~3 months ago. They have not agreed to do a single additional thing or spend a single extra dollar.

Mexico got him to stop the tariffs by restating their commitment to send additional military resources to the border, an agreement that was reached last April under the Biden administration. They also go Trump to commit to additional funds/resources being allocated to the US side of the border in order to reduce the volume of US weapons entering Mexico. Mexico have not agreed to do a single additional thing or spend a single extra dollar.

To achieve these awesome victories Donald Trump has burned up all his remaining global soft-power , cost multiple businesses hundreds of millions of dollars in lost contracts with Canada & Mexico and tanked the US Stock market to the tune of several hundred billion dollars. He has also fueled further price instability and inflation.

    The man is a genius.
