    Ugh.

Ugarte was good at what he's good at. Probably our best player, but still doesn't have the engine in there. Garnacho ok. Amad poor enough. Yoro is too raw. Maguire was off it. Martinez was doing okay, but thats probably the end of him though. I've no confidence in Onana.

The gamble without a striker seemed to work for all of 20 minutes.

Right..did his job and what? Shouldnt be critisized on the basis of that one save

Is it still too soon to question the coaching?

Will it always be too soon to question the coaching?

That side now needs a lcb, rwb, l10 and a striker, minimum, to be balanced correctly.

And even then you could question CM.

And even THEN you'd have to question the depth too.

Agree with most of this but I didn't actually think Garnacho was THAT bad today. He at least posed a threat and put the ball into dangerous areas on occasion. As others have said, until we get a proper striker we are f~cked.

I'm starting to think the money should be spent on Iraola if he can be gotten over anything. This is a shambles. Nobody improved under a new manager bar Amad. Even his former lynchpin player Ugarte looks lost out there in a system he played for 2 years.

I'm similarly at a loss and Amorim will obviously be given time.

It needs to be a very slow patient rebuild with phase 1 being repairing all the damage of the past few years. Shipping players off or waiting for contracts to expire. That phase has at least 18 months to run

Then hopefully picking up a few younger, solid starters on low wages. Look to add more quality when established as a top 8 side.

The alternative is sell Mainoo and Garnacho and go all in again. That could be tempting but ultimately a disaster.

I just hope Amorim gets the chance to see it through for a little while. No manager has ever inherited a sh*t show this bad.

It's not going to be fixed this season I think. Of the players you mentioned, Yoro (19), Amad (22), Garnacho (20) and Hojlund (21) are young players and they will be inconsistent. Mainoo (19) the same.

Dalot is a right footed right back who is trying to do a job for the team at LWB. Mazroui is not a right wing back. That is 7 players involved today who are either young, or playing out of position, or both. We're going to get performances like this.

Recruitment and player development will correct this, but its going to take time.

Had no issue with the front 3 today, didn’t work but when Hojlund or Zirkzee aren’t doing anything between them to cement a starting place then it’s fair to try something else. What needs to stop is Maz and Dalot as WBs. Maz especially, play him RCB or don’t play him at all. Amad looks far better at RWB than RAM. Can’t persist with 5 defenders. I’d also allow Bayindir to get a few games run as I’m sick of Onana.

Spurs next away, we should not be losing to this Spurs side but we likely will.

A Striker and a work horse in midfield imo should be the priority.

Then a LCB then a GK

Yes he did his job. Maybe if the rest of the team did theirs he wouldn't have to face so many high quality chances. The fact you can try to blame him for that 2nd goal is quite literally insane. There is not a keeper anywhere who prevents that.

Yay a 19yr old with less goals than our current forwards will surely help.

Maybe they could just swap the lot of them with Salford City?

I don't see anything to suggest that Amorim is an improvement on ETH or any of the other coaches since Ferguson.

I don't see anything to suggest that Inneos in charge of the football is an improvement on the Glazers laissez faire approach.

The one thing in common across all the sh1tness since Ferguson left is Glazer ownership. Yes they were there before he left, but he managed to still have success in spite of them not because of them because he was exceptional.

Agree. Although he can't be any worse than what we have. He's guaranteed minutes anyway.

Another game with defensive full backs another defeat! Surprise surprise!

I think it's abundantly clear from the signings we've made and those we are linked with that the age profile of the squad is going to drop significantly. Heaven, Dorgu, Tel all young guys. You might not like it but Amorim and INEOS aren't building a team for this season.

Goalkeeper remains a massive concern. Hopefully Tel will bring more to the CF role than we've seen from Hojlund & Zirkzee

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,938 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

We can accept and be happy they are building for the long term while recognising the immediate future looks bleak unless it's addressed. And if you don't do something immediately to improve things the long term plan could be scuppered too.

And doing something immediately is inclusive of amorim doing something to get more out of the side.

I think tel may indeed be thrown CF but the L10 position is likely better fir him and us long term.

I'd hope we get a striker in the summer even if Tel does well and he stays.

    Gyokeres, Osimhen, Samu.

Its my general disappointment tbh, nothing to do with your post 😅

The squad was already relying on too many young players so if that is the approach it's unlikely to work anytime soon. Players generally don't mature to being top pros until they are 23-27. Provided they're developed properly. The ones there are still mostly around 20/21. So what, are we waiting until 2027 for a decent team who can stand up to Crystal Palace at home?

I don't know how everyone can consistently watch the team get scythed through game after game and see the main issue as the goalkeeper. A keeper who was the best player on the team from January to December 2024.

Another game with no goals, is that his fault too?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,938 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

The age part is partly why I want us to get Osimhen and hopefully a prime age CM.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,598 ✭✭✭Ninthlife

Didnt say I thought he should save it. I said he was poor in attempting to prevent it.

GKs are last line if defence so if it comes through to being that last line yes those in front havent done their job.

He couldve rushed out anf forced tje attacker to make a rash decision..instead he stood still took a couple of steps back allowing the attacker time.

He like alot of United players makes poor decisions

time for Amorim to pack his backs. He’s a silly billy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 20,309 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

i suppose if his distribution was better he might be able to assist like the way pickford did yesterday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,493 ✭✭✭Quandary

His wingbacks are a large part of the problem alright

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,689 ✭✭✭Cotts72

Aside from Tel, United should be trying their best to land Bailey and Douglas Luiz tomo. We have no RW (Amad more effective at AM). Douglas Luiz beside Ugarte would be a solid MF combination

Ha ha ha this made me laugh,.I think it's fair to say this project is a long term one and honestly at this stage we will be experiencing lots of ups and downs with a young side for at least this season and next, could be exciting could be a disaster but don't think I'll be getting excited about results anymore this one outside of a UEFA cup run

Ok feel free to have a mickey fit now! That was utter tripe. Feels like the vast majority of teams we play have better players, better coaching and better attitudes. Where we go from here is scary. Zero bounce out of the squad since the new manager came in. Expected a few blips at the start but we really should be seeing some improvement by now

Time is contagious, everybody's getting old.
