I was excited to see him when he came to the PL, as he was considered a good prospect. If he could regain the form of last season, he could definitely be useful. Crossing is great if we have someone to cross the ball into and we don’t really at the moment. Only Ipswich have a lower number of crosses in the league than us this season.

I would prefer if we were looking for a 9 to finish the season with but they’re clearly in short supply for a loan deal and what do you do with Højlund then who sadly would become third choice. Bruno looks like he may spend the majority of the remaining games at 8, so getting a competent wide forward in who can create chances for himself and scores goals has to be the plan.

All done, celebratory meal in Manchester.

Hopefully stays away from the night clubs, at least on his first night anyway 😂

Will this affect any future loans for let's say with Tells for us.

PSR is over my head and I know there's way more knowledgeable people here that would know.

Don't mind Malacia staying tbh, always a injury away from not having real cover on that left side.

I'm no expert but I doubt it.

Dorgu was already underway before there was a sign of Rashford leaving so there must have been enough wiggle room for him already.

Now if Rashford goes, we'll be freeing up £200k a week (if the reports are true re the wage split). That's over £3m which is more than enough I'm sure to cover Tel's wage I'm sure and way more than the £1.2m in wages (if they covered 100%) that shifting Malacia would bring in.

Just depends on a possible loan fee but (a) that would be the case regardless of Malacia leaving and (b) hopefully the stupidity of Amrabat's loan fee is never to be repeated.

They must see something in him that makes them think he'd fit Amorim's system and help the existing players perform better. It's been fairly depressing watching our forward players over the last few years have little to no connection with one another.

I don't understand it at all to be honest. They are desperate for options on that left side, Malacia has 99 minutes in the PL since he returned from injury, 360 minutes total, he probably isn't good enough but have they really seen enough game tape to decide he is no use whatsoever after such a short playing time?

Is he really worse than Dalot on the left? How can we know that yet?

And the rumor is he would be leaving on loan? Taking the money for a sale I could understand, but on loan?

This time last year Ten Hag believed he would have Shaw for the run in so didn't need other options, I do hope Amorim is not repeating history.

villa getting marco ascensio. wonder will that scupper the rashford deal?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,689 ✭✭✭Cotts72

Ascensio replaces Buendia, Rashford replaces Duran

I'll not celebrate Rashford leaving until he's holding up the shirt.

And I don't sat that to slate the fella, but it's undeniably better for him and for us if he leaves now.

70% salary coverage and option for 40m transfer in the summer. About as good a deal as we could have hoped for in my eyes. Loan fee was never likely with the massive wages.

Good deal but the inevitable payoff to rashford will eat into the £40m fee.

Assuming Villa will pay him around £150k per week on a permanent deal (it will be less than they’ll give him during a free loan you’d imagine), that leaves United owing Rashford £27.3m to the end of his contract.

On Rashford, I'm out of patience tbh. He's paid an absolute fortune, plays football for a living and he doesn't bother his backside putting in a shift when playing. There are people all over the world working awful jobs who get out of bed each day to do what has to be done to keep a family going or whatever. Rashford has a privilege in life that 99% of the world would kill for.

I think his social life is a big factor in what's going on. Less so how he's dressed but if Amorim has a dress code around OT, then he has to stick to it. Going on a bender in Belfast or skipping across to a basketball match when he's supposed to be resting aren't on.

Rashford thought he'd end up at Barcelona and he ends up at Villa instead, maybe a reality check for his ego.

A few said he'd have been a different player under Fergie. Maybe but he'd have been a squad player- no way he'd be on the team ahead of Giggs, Rooney, Ronaldo etc.

That's part of United's problem since Fergie, mediocre talent going round on massive money, big egos and little silverware to show for it.

People questioned his love for the club so he cried at the cup final- give me a break.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,226 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

    Thank God for that.

70% of his wages covered now and a £40m fee would be a great result. Just hope he has a half a good season and they agree to take him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,713 ✭✭✭Caustic

I dont think villa will ever sign him because I don't think he will ever take a big enough wage cut.

AIF said above "well run" villa have a 90% + wages to turnover and their highest player is on 150k a week.

They aren't going to make rashford their highest paid player and even if they did would he even accept it?

Best of luck to Rashord, I wish him the best and I hope he tear's it up at Villa so we can finally end the Rashford/utd Saga come summer.

It was gone to the stage, I absolutely hated seeing him in the utd team as he never broke a sweat and just didn't look bothered.

I think we've finally got rid of all the negative influences

Big day today. Need convincing performances from the key players.

If berrada and wilcox can't get Tel over the line it'll be a bitter disappointment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,226 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

Agree on the importance of today. We're on a run of 5-1-1 in 7 games but it's a bit of a deceptive stat because we absolutely stunk the place out against Southampton, and the Fulham/Rangers wins were workmanlike but unconvincing (although grinding out dull victories is not necessarily a bad thing this season).

A thumping at home today similar to the Brighton game would really take the wind out of our sails again ahead of a very winnable cup tie vs Leicester.

Plus it's a mid table 6-pointer with Palace right on our heels. (God, what a depressing thing to be saying)

Absolutely delighted to let Rashford go. No effort, no sympathy. Surprised how happy I am that we have moved him on. Like getting rid of Aubameyang or Pepe.

don’t think the game today is on tv again?

Antony and now Rashford gone, you'd have to be thinking there's at least one forward thinking player incoming now

United will cover the shortfall between what Villa will pay and what he’s currently on. Happens all the time

If it goes ahead it’ll looking something like.

£40m to United who immediately pass £25m onto rashford.

So United net £15m and get the contract off their books. Big win if they can manage it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,938 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

United could and will look to negotiate a pay off. He's entitled to ask for whatever he wants with regards to money owed but the club can also say take a reduction or sit in the stands for the next 3 years. That extreme won't happen but there will be a negotiation. Rashford WANTS to leave.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,811 ✭✭✭DataDude

Agreed there will be a negotiation. I would suggest uniteds ability to negotiate would be a lot higher if Rashford was getting a move to Barca or Madrid.

Is he really going to forgoing signficant amount of money to play for Villa? Maybe he can resurrect his England career etc. these will be things United will try to use on him. But no matter what way you cut it. A vast chunk of whatever ‘fee’ is quoted for Rashford. United will be giving a huge chunk of it straight to him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,176 ✭✭✭NITRO95

Very rarely will a player get the full percentage of their contract when they are paid off. Anyway it doesn't matter Barcelona are gonna come in and offer him 400k a week to be ignored on the pitch by Gavi, Pedri and Olmo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,811 ✭✭✭DataDude

    I like your optimism!

He won’t get the full value but he’ll get the vast bulk of the difference between what’s left outstanding on his deal £50.1m (325k*52*3) and his market value for a 3 year deal c£25m.

Why would he voluntarily hand United back £10m+ from his own back pocket to play for Villa! Sporting ambition etc etc…ultimately money talks.

It’s not like Villa gives him a chance to make more money off the pitch. Less if anything you’d assume, even if he’s a starter there.

If he was willing to hand back a chunk of change, I’d suggest he wouldn’t be going on loan to Villa in the first place!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,938 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

Because he wants to play football. So may have to sacrifice some money to do so.

Plus 350 is likely a headline figure, Inc image rights (possibly) and his CL bonus of about 25%.

So his base pay is likely to be far below 350k.

And it was reported he told barca he'd take a pay cut to make it work.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,409 ✭✭✭caviardreams

I also think Rashford's ego will drive him to show people United were wrong and he's a top player, rather than sit on the bench and stay which is a factor imo. I think he'd take a small haircut to his pay for that (plus the england squad potential)

This feels like a pivatol moment in RAs tenure. He's been (rightly imo) fully backed by the powers that be in the MR situation so he now has to keep the results consistent. With MR and Antony off the books for a few months that's saving the guts of £300,000 a week which is absolutely mind boggling considering their output. At least Antony tried, he's just a very limited baller.
