on the lack of replays of incidents, same as last night, I wonder if that’s a six nation’s request to the broadcasters not to show too many that might undermine refs and or slow the game.

Also how good was Sheehan? To have that impact after being 60 mins back from a serious cruciate ligament injury is unbelievable. The long pass out to the wing then the trail run followed by the finish? A hooker should not be doing that!

Nah. Conan and Sheehan. Then whatever out half was on benefitted from front foot ball.

Will you be sharing your expertise on DWTS this week??

Where would NZ be without their south sea island players ?

It's so tiring that despite an impressive win we have the usual suspects wanting to make a provincial **** fight and get their players into the team.

We had a rock solid set piece, few handling errors and kept our penalties conceded to single digits. That's a huge improvement over November and what we should be talking about.

Most players today had their good moments. Prendergast had a few errant kicks, but also showed some excellent passing and line running. He's a rookie 10 and has already shown he's not likely to wilt under pressure. That's a huge positive.

About time. One game in a year and a half. Hope it continues.

I’m not suggesting a rigid higharchy but the opportunity for Sam to put the mistakes of todays game behind him next week.

I remarked in the national anthems that he looked very nervous, and he didn’t play well. He had some good moments but need the opportunity to watch it back, learn from his mistakes and put them behind him next week.

The Irish team needs two brilliant 10’s. We have one very good and one with bags of potential.

You must have been watching a different game to the rest of us. Conan took more lineout ball in 30mins than Baird did in 50. Made more effective carries and made a line break too. I didn't think Baird offered much than one very good break up the touchline. Baird lacks the impact at the break down and ruck for this level. Tom Curry was the best flanker on the pitch tonight, that's what's required at this level.

How anyone can think SP had a good game today is beyond me.

He had an absolute howler, and I’d say he’d be the first to admit it.

Will he have better days ahead in the Irish 10 shirt ? Absolutely. No doubt about it.

But no need to sugarcoat it. He was not good today.

    Who is this Steve guy?

The guy who has coached england to how many losses recently?

Sheehan is the best hooker in the word since 2 years. Different category of alien players, like Dupont.

Add McCathy and Furlong, a more electric Hansen, and we're ok to face France

A guy with a 48% victory rate (14/29) with an international team with the most financial resources and one of the biggest playing bases. You may not hear of him again by the end of the 6N.

It’s often a trade-off between speed and power. I don’t think too many of Aki’s competitors at 12 would have scored that try. OTOH he was nowhere near catching Smith near the start.

Thanks guys, maybe you might do a better job. Unfortunately we may never get to see it! This Steve guy has done better in a world cup than Andeh, but other than that you mean?

Yeah, I wouldn't listen to Borthwick's reading of the game, the guy's a bluffer. And watching how he treats players in the 6N netflix thing, he seems like a right power-drunk prick.

Felt the Ireland S&C boys once again need a pat on the back, fitness off the charts and England faded badly, was noticeable from even before half time.

Learnt a lot from that game. Conan is in fantastic form. Lowe despite a couple of duff kicks is to the manor born, huge power today. Sheehan looks like the bionic man out there, his pace if off the charts, some recovery job, well done the team involved as he was phenomenal for Leinster on the weekend past and off the charts today. Best hooker in the world period.

Great to have Crowley but cripes Prendergast is on fire and for a 21 year old is hard to fathom how good he is. Yes plenty to learn and his kicking needs work but his passing, space finding and time on the ball is world class. Crowley good when he came on but for me there is a clear 1 - 2 order now. We need to invest in both but Prendergast for me is the one who will take the shirt. Great problem to have mind you post Sexton.

Hats off to JGP as well, great game and moment of the match for me was Bundee's finish, cripes what a class finish, the power.

Thought Prendergast's kicking was a mixed bag, had a few errant ones from hand. His passing game was superb though, he showed exactly why he was backed to start. For all the criticisms of his running threat, his ability to delay his pass and commit defenders is excellent. He generated multiple line breaks, that really ought to have been scored from. He also stood up fine in defense.

Crowley looked sharp when he came on, he's undoubtedly a faster, and more direct runner than Prendergast. He works well from the bench, in much the same way Frawley does. Can push the pace against a tiring defense, whereas I think Prendergast is very effective at using his passing to get around an aggressive rush.

Never understood how they gave him the job, have never been impressed with him. Considering some of the coaching options floating around, pretty much any of them would have been a better idea. Bizarre.

    ...........

    From.BBC website.

    What they said

England head coach Steve Borthwick: "Immense credit to Ireland - they are such an experienced team. It was a tough Test match in that third quarter and I thought they did really well.

"That was the critical period and that allowed them to get scoreboard pressure. I am very proud of how our players attacked the game in the first half and came back at the end to score a few tries to get the bonus point.

"The team, against one of the best attacking sides in the world, have improved defensively

Lowe was close for Potm. Saves his best for the Ireland shirt.

Gibson Park back to his best

Kelleher played well and was unlucky with his try, but Sheehan gives another set of options and plays as well as Kelleher anywhere → he must start whenever fit.

Pendergast poor. Never bossed the game or looked in control of anything.

Crowley better but he had the wind at his back when he came on

Baird was good in the lineouts but agree that Conan was overall better.

Bealham had one of his best games ever in an Irish shirt. Clarkson good in the scrum but not as good in open play or the ruck.

    Porter excellent as always.

Healy and Henderson both embarrassing. Taking up space.

Mack Hansen well off the pace.

    Keenan great as always

    So too Beirne.

Aki - adequate/good. Took his try like the pro he is.

Van Der Flier and Ryan good.

Doris had his quietest game ever.

Murray - no real impact. Covered the spot in his 5 minutes.

    Did I miss anyone?

’Are you saying that anyone could of managed that team?’

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,715 ✭✭✭Ardillaun

These stats surprised me. I thought we turned over a lot more ball than that. The rucks were a source of concern esp. in the first half.

I *remember Ireland beating England in 1993 and it was like winning the World Cup.

*We I say remember I remember being happy. We were in college and had just cracked open the home brew; I don't know what fermentation had gone on both come full time no off us could stand 😄

Crowley is the better 10 for this Irish team. But I would still start Pendergast next week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,455 ✭✭✭All_in_Flynn

When our set piece goes well then it takes something very special to beat this team and England ain't special.

Was a game where we had to earn the right to play and we wore them down. The bench had a massive impact. Conan, Sheehan and Crowley all excellent.

The state of all the tulips steaming in whenever either SP or Crowley make what they perceive to be a mistake. Ireland fans me bollox. If you can't see why Leinster and Ireland are investing in SP then I don't know what to tell you. I'm just delighted that we have another serious operator in Crowley there too. Not many teams that can boast that level of quality.

Think that's the best we've played since world cup year. We looked physically in a much better place than we did earlier in the season. VDF had a quietly effective game. Man's a machine.

The only 'issue' I have with the current squad is Cian Healy. Whatever about him making squads and 23's last year, he just looks like he can barely get about the pitch at the moment. Very cumbersome. Surely get Boyle in at this stage who has done very well for Leinster of late.

Slade usually has a few creative moments for England. His grubber for the first try was perfect. Steward is strong in the air but I would choose Furbank if he were fit. Lawrence was solid. Smith and the wings were a bit up and down. Those Currys were excellent esp. in the first half.
