Tough watch so far. Can see England eeking out a win.

A 5 pt game. We just need to be a bit more clinical. Maybe taking a few 3 pts.

SP has created most of our opportunities. Or problems are at the breakdown and England flooding space for receivers, often by being offside. We need to be smarter, we've let them drag us into an armwrestle.

Time for my annual post about this team turning down easy kicks at goal in a tight game only to be turned over 4-5 phases after the subsequent lineout. Will we ever learn?

England living and dying on O'Keefe letting them get away with being offsides. We need to punish them for it. I think our attack has been much better, we've gotten outside of them repeatedly but seem allergic to running into space.

I remember when we beat England in Twickenham in 2004. ROG missed his first penalty infront of the posts. He was 27, it happens.

ROG had an excellent game after.

SP has zero running threat though. The England defence can drift knowing he won't make a break

Lucky to be only 5 down.

Good to see the lineout issues fixed, but there's a feeling that England aren't really contesting there and are willing to meet us in midfield.

    Kelleher playing very well.

England playing much smarter. Ireland not taking their points again, ego rugby again. Shocking conversion attempt.

There was a real lack of focus from Ireland's team within the first 20 minutes of this match.

It's not like Ireland to allow the opposition to have the upper hand in this match. But going up against England with this lack of focus in the 1st Ireland match of the tournament is not great. England is placing Ireland into dangerous territory here.

If Ireland have no impetus in the 1st match of this tournament to even retain possession & score tries against an opposition who are so powerful & so fluid in attack; it could pose huge problems later on if England knock the socks out of us while Ireland still make loads of attempts to get themselves ahead on the field of play. If Ireland continues this type of play onto the rest of the tournament. It could be curtains for Ireland trying to win any attempts for a Grand Slam or 3rd 6N title at this rate.

Obviously; JGP's try does give us some relief at this point in the match. Having 5 points on the boards is a nice bit of work.

However that performance from Ireland was a very poor start to date.

Being 5 points down against England does give Ireland some great opportunities to bounce back later on. On the other hand; do Ireland have the bravery to carry out this task against England in the 2nd half. It's a tough call to make at this point. Regrettably the upper hand is with England for me once Ireland get back on the pitch.

Can't say England don't deserve that, we look a bit rudderless.

James Lowe is probably our only bright spark in the backline, having a stormer against the odds. JGP took his try superbly.

SP showed some nice touches in a couple of phases against 14 but I think he's been quite poor otherwise. Commentators alluding to it too several times with loose kicks and passes and is shovelling on a lot of ball. Get Crowley on if things don't improve by 50 imo.

Aki having a poor game too, get Henshaw on similarly.

Delighted the lineout is going well, especially for Kelleher who has had his yips in the past.

I thought this was going to be a banana skin and something needs to change at halftime, their rush defence and ruck resourcing is causing both backs and forwards awful hassle

Backrow anonymous. Our attacking play has been poor aside from Lowe's break. Why aren't we taking points when the opportunity arises?

What exactly is Goodman doing as attack coach? Have seen zero set moves

Prendergast has been dreadful so far.
Why Crowley and Nash are not starting today is bizarre.

Spent the week posting about this being a make or break game for Ryan Baird. So far it's tipping the balance to the break side of the equation. Doesn't do enough at ruck time.

Horrendous accuracy so far. Haven't executed at all.

Front row, Beirne and Baird (last line break aside) the pick of the forwards. Lowe and Keenan the only backs performing to an acceptable standard. Suppose Ringrose hasn't done anything wrong either.

Prendergast had a fairly atrocious first 25, especially off the boot. Ran through some nice shapes between 25 and 35 in attack, but a couple more errors in the last five.

In fairness, he's probably not being helped by JGP throwing some average passes inside him and Bundee being fairly ineffective outside him.

Don't mind going for the corner while a man up but we could really do with taking our points in the second half. We've been ahead on the penalty count and territory and 5 points is a poor return off that.

Mitchell is causing some bother with his box kicks; and their kick counter is making gains.

If we can clean up our ruck work and give ourselves cleaner ball, we should rip holes out wide.

I seen the comment made on here and noticed it last year, the match production must be done by a UK company as Virgin Media don’t seem to control replays at all. The Lowe potential trip and the shot on Beirne I would have liked to see again.

Christ!! Can we not go down this road? It's boring and tiresome.

He's fixed defenders multiple times with his running and delayed passing. I swear folks don't even watch games

I think we should be ahead really. Turned down three relatively straightforward kicks at goal and had another try disallowed.

England look good, but their poor discipline has given us plenty of opportunities.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,397 ✭✭✭almostover

Look back at our 1st try chance on pen advantage. Line was at his mercy and he shovelled the ball onto an English player. He isn't there physically yet and therefore doesn't take the ball to the line, he doesn't fix the defenders. Yes he's a lovely passer but behind a pack that's only doing middling like we are here, he struggles.

Rob Kearney saying we started slow but are back in the game and left a few chances behind us and Horgan says there's nothing wrong with taking 3 points.

I agree 💯 and think we're an 80 minute team, we'll win this yet.

    Thats what I meant obviously.

SP a bit 'skinny' for modern game or just me? Looks a slip of a lad
