Højlund did well in a few games against lower half teams last season. Did well in the CL group against teams probably about the same level. He's not even doing that this season and his attitude on the pitch stinks but doesn't appear to have been noticed by many.

He's better than he's showing now but not by much and is not even performing against the bad teams outside of the Europa where there is a lower level of intensity. This is partly a team issue but he's not consistently shown before he's at the level required. There is a player there but it would take a lot of development which there is no time for.

getting a bid ready for tel in anticipation of rashford going to villa:

Manchester United have once again clearly signaled to FC Bayern in the last few hours that they are considering submitting a concrete loan offer for Mathys #Tel.

ManUtd want to prepare in case Marcus #Rashford moves to Aston Villa. Bayern are now awaiting the next move from #MUFC. At this stage there’s is no agreement between ManUtd and Tel yet and ManUtd are also exploring other options. Not only Tel.

This morning, there was also new contact between Aston Villa‘s and Tel‘s management.

Tel will not be in the squad for today’s match against Kiel.

and per bayerns sporting director: “He has a lot on his mind. It didn’t make sense for him to be in the squad.” “Many clubs are interested. He is thinking a lot about it.” “It’s possible that he will still be a Bayern player on Tuesday.”

I don't get what your point is with listing those other players? Yeah I don't ever recall their attitudes being questioned, because I don't think they had questionable attitudes. Strange is right.

And the rest of your post is just whataboutery. Of course you think he carried the team, and if he did, it has been forgotten cos he's being crap since then while being paid 300k a week. Your last paragraph is nonsense really. "if he was so bad others would be thriving in is absence"??? More whataboutery.. We're talking about his crap performance and attitude, others do at least have the right attitude.

If not, I'm sure Amorim will be knocking on Heaven's door

There are lads that will break the sound barrier rushing to post the very second Rashford gets a goal or assist for Villa, it will immediately be proof that United were wrong or some other such nonsense.

I think its a great move myself, all thanks to the Saudis for pumping some cash into Villa to get it started. High profile enough club that good form will get noticed and hopefully pump the eventual fee up, thats a win for United. And if he falls foul of Emry next, well, not even the true believers will be able to defend him any longer.

He most likely will be another Sancho, lets be honest, a few goals or a good performance will see him praised when in fact the overall performance is pretty meh. But no matter, any good media will add a few millions on so more power to them.

One of the most bizarre instances of whataboutery I've ever seen in all my days on Boards tbh. Funny how he brought up players like them, who never acted in any way other than professionally, rather than players Pogba or Martial.

I hope he goes and smashes it up, it hadn’t ended the way any fan wanted but you can see that he isn’t enjoying his football anymore and you’d hope for his sake that this move and maybe a permanent one from this helps him discover the love for the game.

I agree that now and recently also Villa have being a well better team and club but like I said if you went to the bookies back when this started you’d have got some odds 😂

Read something the other day that they spent 150+ million in the summer and only 1 signing has more than 3 starts or something mad like that.

In general I agree though, they've been a model of progression over the last few years since they sacked Gerrard.

I find it funny your pop at people who defend Rashford where as you yourself couldn't be any quicker to criticise Rashford or amorim on this thread. You are as prolific in your critique of Rashford and anyone looking to discuss his history at the club as any one who you say are his defence league, which I'd see myself as part of.

Mata sat on the bench for years on 250k a week producing less that teenage Marcus Rashford. Great attitude though.

Herrera spent a couple of years just kicking players and being generally average otherwise. Great attitude.

De Gea was great for years so don't enjoy criticising what he became.

I'm unsure what you think whataboutery is but it's not what you've outlined there. What I've done there is make a comparison between 2 things. Not every point someone makes can be dismissed by just saying the word "whataboutery".

This is a point I've tried to avoid making.

Some on the thread are like aggregator Twitter accounts whenever something negative is said about Rashford and when I respond it's me being obsessed 😂

You never answered my question the other day.

Do you think Rashford has ever been a good player for United?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 8,374 ✭✭✭El Gato De Negocios

Juan Mata never earned £250k a week at United or anywhere near it. His salary was in the region of £160,000 per week for the years he was at the club. When people have to resort to making up lies to underscore their arguments then it's clear they've already lost.

We're discussing Rashford and his crap attitude and crap performances and you're saying what about this player and that player.... It's text book whataboutery! 🤷

The games Mata did play i don't recall him strolling around the pitch not bothering his arse. Likewise Herrera. And de gea Was never accused of bad attitude, just made too many howlers towards the end.

Its been pointed out here many times, showing effort on the field is the basic of what fans want to see.

You know I'm right though. The minute Rashford scores it will be 3.2.1…

I never said you were part of any league, at any point.

I will say one thing though. I was pointing out problems with Rashford years ago, and I got plenty of pushback from certain people over those years.

Well time tells all, and time told that when it came to Rashford I was damn right. Just as I was with Martial.

It won't stop people rolling their eyes and saying I'm a complainer when I point out pretty obvious issues elsewhere though.

If this fella is as good as he is on Football Manager he will be a great addition. Not the most useful insight I know but anything to try and change the subject away from the boring and childish bickering on Rashford 🙄

No I never said what about other players. I asked what it's always Pogba, Lingard (never gave less than 100%), Martial and Sancho brought up and never any other underperforming players over the last few years when a comparison is made with Rashford? That's not whataboutery which is why I questioned your understanding of the word.

If Rashford's crap performances existed in a vacuum and were holding the team back and going against the tactics then there would be a vast improvement without him. Why do you think that has not been the case? Please don't just say "whataboutery" again.

Christ what I wouldn't give for prime Herrara at the club now, seriously underrated player.

Not long since we had Rashford, Greenwood and Sancho up front and looking like the future of the England attack for some years to come. Life moves pretty fast...

I've no problem with you discussing any player or manager how you chose to. I simply find it annoying that you will pop at people with predictions if them posting an I told you so if Rashford scores when I reckon you'd be as quick to post if Rashford gets taken off after 60 or gets dropped.

And in a more general comment regarding the thread in general I dislike how there seems to only be two other people that think there is any merit to discussing why Rashford turned out as he did and if the club need to learn anything from it.

The only acceptable narrative is Rashford is rubbish, has always been rubbish there is zero reason for him being rubbish other than he is lazy and egotistical.

Fair to say I think the exact opposite. He was probably above average in the midfield signings made post Fergie but he wasn't great at anything, was injured quite a bit and was quick enough out the door when he didn't earn a new contract and PSG threw the money on the table.

Hopegully we can get it done.

Would be interesting to see what it means for garnacho.

I don't think we'll sell garnacho this month but I don't think tel would sign to be backup to garnacho and I don't think garnacho will stick around if he reckons he's on the bench next season more often than not.

I 100% think united need a number of 1st choice quality players across the front line and midfield. But I reckon the talk of garnacho leaving this month was fueled by a belief he wouldn't be getting first choice minutes under amorim. He's worked hard and adapted his game quite well in recent weeks so fair play to him - but surely tel is a direct competitor to his selection.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,679 ✭✭✭✭FourFourRED

Haha! Every signing from now on should be eligible for some form of word play. Maybe that’s the veto on signings that Amorim has? He seems to like a joke 😂

They're paying a 'significant portion' of his wages plus bonus related add ons. We don't know the precise financials yet but it looks like a good deal for Utd. The other clubs involved like Milan and Barca were never going to pay anything like it looks like Villa are. Utd were in a position to demand a bit of a premium in negotiations because Villa are a PL side and ahead of us in a the table. Villa can afford to take the gamble with the money they got from Saudi. I see this as a win-win all round.

Pogba lingard martial and sancho were the high profile players in the group, that you'd expect would be the leaders as the were the high earners. Same as Rashford. Nobody cares if one of the Fringe players has a bad attitude cos they can be gotten rid of easily. I also mentioned Antony in my original comment which you seem to have ignored, so I'd hope you aren't hinting at some other narrative here.

His performances were going against the tactics though. You said it yourself a few weeks back that he can't press or tackle. Pressing is a big part of tactics now.

Are you arguing that because the team is in a worse position than last year when Rashford was playing it proves that he should be playing now?! 🤔 That sounds like an argument his PR team is making to him.

I think we'll just leave it there cos the Rashford pickering is getting tiresome alright. And I think you've answered my "how long will you give him a pass for" question. Clearly it's forever.
