    I'm not a techie!

I recently put up a new satellite dish, and an electronics engineer friend tuned it in with a satellite meter, but am only getting BBC Channels and a few Asian channels, no Channel 4 or 5, ITV, etc.

I use a Walker Saorview WP645TS-HD Digital Terrestial Receiver and it got me many more channels on the previous dish.

Contacted Glen Dimplex, the makers of the Receiver, and they were worse than useless.

Any technical sharks who could help me find out what is wrong.

    Thanks.

Well since you emphasize you are not a techie…

Did you do a full scan of 28.2 Satellite on the Walker box? How many channels did it report were 'found' after the scan was complete?

edit: setup guide for you box

    Thanks, AllForIt.

I did that 28.2 scan umpteen times exactly as in the video you supplied (thanks), but all I got was around 20 channels.

In that case I think you'd need whomever installed the dish back to check the alignment of the dish and the cables.

About the only thing you could try yourself is make sure the input satellite cable on the back of the box is in good shape, i.e it's screwed in and inserted fully and check there's no stray copper fibers causing a short circuit. Just do a visual inspection for anything that looks out of place.

I would also try scanning a single transponder just to see what happens if you can figure out how to do that yourself just to be sure it's a signal problem, maybe try that first.

This would grab some ITV channels, the values below are typical of what you would need to scan a single frequency (transponder).

    Frequency 11344.00

    Horizontal (H)

    Modulation : 8PSK

    Symbol Rate 27500

    inner Fec (2/3)

I can't advice how to do that on you box, you'll have to figure it out yourself

What type of LNB is on the new dish? If it’s a wideband, it’ll need to be swapped for a universal LNB to work with that box.

I agree with Glaceon, wrong LNB seems most likely explanation

On a similar point, I have a Freeview box and have lost alot of channels aswell, I have BBC , BBC 4 , yesterday channels and all rte and virgin ones, and some +1 like channel 5+1 but not channel 5 etc which is strange. Have settings or satellite changed for sky and all the rest?

You should give make and model of box. Freeview is the name of the UK terrestial service. As you have RTE then its a combo box and all the channel moves are now complete so more than likely dish has moved.

    Lads, thanks for your help.

I had a look at the LNB and it states as follows: Universal Ku-band single LNB. So it is a

    Universal LNB.

In that case, I'd say that the transponder list on the box is out of date, these boxes are quite old so it might take some manual updating unless someone else knows a way.

What firmware revision is on it? The 3.8 or 4.0 firmware supports the Freesat EPG (named SatFree as it's not official). It still needs a manual rescan every now and then but much less tedious than other boxes.

Try a manual transponder search and check the box for network search. Hopefully the box will download the new transponder information from the satellite datastream. make sure to set to FTA channels only

Agree with all the above, many changes in the world of satellite reception.

I'm finding the older freesat boxes are not picking up some channels, like cnn, it's not the dish in my case,as I just swap the sky HD box for the freesat one. I've tried software download with no success,it's a pity because some freesat boxes have 12v dc inputs, useful during power outages.

Im also getting notifications telling me that as Sky are hiking prices in April by 6.2%,people should keep the dish, cancel Sky and simply replace the box with freesat.

Do folk realise that if they have a Sky email address, they will lose that as happened recently with Virgin giving people 30 days before they take their email address away.?

Thanks, lads, for all your help.

I haven't been on-line for a while bacause of no BB due to electricity black-out here in Co. Galway, and damage to the roof of my house, and being busy trying to get a roofer to come, as roofers are as busy as bees here in the West.

I think that this problem is beyond me.

Anyone know of a trustworthy Satellite Installer in Co. Galway?

    Go raibh maith agaibh.
