I suggest we let the good people of Greece, Spain, Portugal and Eastern Europe decide for themselves whether to submit to an external court. No need to lead the way over the cliff.

Well if somebody is happy to label all Palestinians as members of Hamas then they're a special kind of dense.

That deficiency runs concurrently with support of Trump and MAGA.

I think if Trump is going to act the arsehole, then whoever from the govt. is going over to the Paddy's day parade from here should just go an meet the organisers and ignore Trump completely.

In fairness Nermal also seems to be under the impression that the likes of Zuckerberg, Musk and Bezos aren't the establishment. In spite of the fact that all 3 have had a substantial influence on regulation across the globe for years. So labeling all of Palestine as Hamas members is unsurprising.

I'm sure if Trump uses the Russian soundbite of calling Zelensky a Nazi, that we'll have posters claiming that this is in fact true.

"Desiring the Constitution to be the supreme law of the land is the democratic position. Retaining the ECHR is the authoritarian one.".

Sorry, but you are talking complete nonsense now. The irish constitution is the supreme source of law in Ireland. Period.

You should stop before you embarrass yourself further.

Trump the disruptor is a wonderful thing to behold.

The problem is that the words 'fascist' and 'Nazi' have been thrown around so much in the last 80 years (not always without reason, mind) that they've lost a lot of impact with the general public, and this one of the things that ironically helps keep the powder dry for a genuine return.

Do I think Trump's crowd are fascists? They certainly do things reminiscent of the ideology like demonising foreigners and political opponents, ramping up jingoistic language, attempting to purge government of those thought to be disloyal, making general appeals to a great and glorious past, having a general disregard for democratic norms when they get in the way, attempting to overturn democracy when it doesn't go their way and honouring members of the public who commit violence to this end. Among other things.

So, yeah, I would say fascist would be a fair descriptor, even if it's not a 1:1 match. It's certainly vastly closer to that kind of politics than the USA of ten years ago in way that would have been almost unimaginable, then.

But we've got to a stage where almost none of this appears to be particular shocking. MAGA would have to do something pretty spectacular to generate a level of outrage comparable to January 6th at the time it happened. If a mob attacked the US Capitol, based on the sitting president's lies, and that's now become normalised, then it's hard to imagine what would make everyone pause for thought, including Trump's backers.

How long will the frog boil?

I think the real problem isn't so much Trump, Musk, or even Project 2025. It's that we're seeing multiple generations of people grow up in a world in which they'll own very little, where they're subject to endless negativity by morally corrupt corporations in an unprecedented manner, where the welfare state and the social contract are being eroded, and where traditional aspirations like having a family will be permanently unattainable for many.

Creating a horde of frustrated, disaffected people, especially men is a bit like the setting for a forest fire. You have reams of combustible material in an arid environment. All it takes is a single spark to ignite catastrophe.

The social and cultural ties that unite people are also fraying. People tend to experience more individualised and less communal programmes and other entertainment now. Sporting events are a rare exception to this. There's also a rapid decline in Third Places as the cost of living has gotten increasingly ludicrous. Now, we have corporate racists and tax dodgers lamenting the low birth rates their cohort are partly responsible for.

For example, trust in democracy here in the UK is at a record low level:

As for solutions, I do not have any. All I know is this isn't going to lead anywhere good.

The orange chump is now touting conspiracy theory's about the crash……next he will be blaming Joe or Nancy or even Dr. Fauci for organizing it and of course Mad Margorie will blame the space lasers.

It means the poster is a fully indoctrinated member of the cult who doesn't even flinch at fully elucidated proposals for ethic cleansing and concentration camps from the president of the United States. In normal times they would be on a watch list.

Jesus christ, after one of the worst air tragedies in recent years, he hasn't shown a shred of emotion and has to have a swipe at Obama and Biden. Because planes were famously falling out of the sky under them.

    What an idiot.

WTF is Trump talking about in this press conference? A massive plane crash has taken place and Trump is talking about the evil of DEI in the FAA.

His response to 9/11 was to claim that he had the tallest building in New York. This was over two decades ago. He has always been this.

From a safe country half the world away. Once again, Trump supporters never debate actual Trump policies.

    And, uh, the tapes.

    Very scary tapes.

And making it all about himself and the failures of previous administrations. He has no respect for god nor man… handing out blame with nothing to go on.

Accidents will happen Mr President even with the best people on duty. As pointed out by one brave correspondent he is getting way ahead of himself.

    Oh my god.

Reporter: "Why do you think diversity had something to do with this place crash?"

Trump: "Because I have common sense."

There's precious little room left under the bus after that press conference.

This is Trump just being Trump, self centred and egotistical. He will literally make anything about him, including the deaths of 60+.

There are just no leadership qualities about him, none. He takes no accountability and just blames, this is the type of person you never want to even run a coffee shop, never mind a country.

History has also shown that morons like this encounter a degree of karma at some point, like Nero during the Roman Empire.
